Uhaul Truck Rentals Uhaul Rips Off Customers With Erroneous Fuel Gauges and Invoices Internet

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

Uhaul rents out a 10 foot truck with a gas gauge that is in reverse (Empty on the right and Full on the Left) of the conventional gauge (Empty on the left and Full on the right), yet their invoice/receipt uses the conventional gauge picture for measuring the gas level in the truck instead of the reverse gauge in the's a very subtle illusion that caught me for $13.00 of additional gas when I returned the truck....and that's when I noticed the problem. Uhaul is aware of the problem as indicated by a phone message to me two hours prior to my phone disconnection, because I was 'moving', ergo the Uhaul rental. They decided 'not to be available' when I returned their call (20 minutes after their message) prior to my disconnection. They have decided 'not to contact me' via my address and forwarding address.
The 10 foot truck in question had 35836 miles on it, which tells me that Uhaul has been aware of the problem for quite some time....perpetuated by thousands of 10 foot trucks in their fleet....that's quite a bit of free gas for Uhaul nationwide....huh. It is suggested to Beware of Uhaul's practices !!

Fuel Gauges

AUTHOR: Matt at Uhual - (United States of America)

The fuel gauge issue is not a U-Haul error, the cab and chasis are sent to us from GM with those options. The reveresed fuel gauge is the standard gauge on a Gm 3500 van cab, not a custom gauge built for the TM series to get free a gallon of free gas. Errors do happen but U-Haul is not desperate for $13.00 in fuel enough to alter fuel gauges.

Rebuttal To Maria's Rebuttal

AUTHOR: Maylor mayor - (U.S.A.)

Maria, Maria, Maria....

The audacity of utilizing my 'valid' Ripoff Report, which is substantiated with proof  and U-Haul acknowledgements , as your podium to advertise your company and 'lame' is that? I'll tell you how 'lame' is 'lame' as the 'chump change' offer of a $20.00 VIP certificate to be used for future U-Haul services - VIP = Very Incidental (or Inconsequential) Person? Ya' really missed the point here, didn't ya'....U-Haul apparently is not rectifying the problem, apparently it still only takes a few lines of computer code - as acknowledged by the U-Haul Rep. who feebly attempted to contact me and left a message, ergo; end of attempt). Being a Business/Info. Tech Consultant, I even know that it only takes a few lines of code. I believe that you should ask the U-Haul BOD what should be done to pacify myself and the 'marketable' masses.

U-Haul Cares

AUTHOR: Maria p. - (U.S.A.)

My name is Maria Palmisano and I am with U-Haul International. I first want to offer you my apology for the confusion regarding our fuel gauge. We have two different model 10-foot trucks. One is made by GMC and the other is Toyota. Both have the standard cab, which includes the dash board, for that model. The cab's are not designed solely for the U-Haul Company.  I did verify that a few of the trucks, depending on the year of the model, do indeed have a fuel gauge that you could say are not the conventional gauge or what you might be used to and again, I do apologize for the confusion. As we value you as a customer, I would like to send you a $20.00 VIP Certificate to help offset your inconvenience. The Certificates can be used toward a future purchase or rental on the many products and services U-Haul has to offer. In addition to our basic truck and trailer rentals, we rent pick up trucks and cargo vans. We rent storage units, garden equipment and steam cleaners. We sell boxes, bubble pack, rope and tape. We also sell permanent hitches, propane and locks. Please contact me at and provide me with either your email address or a mailing address where I can send them. We appreciate customer feedback and I hope you will allow U-Haul to serve you again in the future.
