These people are still going anyone who says they have gotten all of their products and believes this scam is part of the scam. HAMDEN The Connecticut Better Business Bureau is warning consumers not to fall for "Help Wanted" ads from a fire equipment company that has generated more than 500 phone calls from people complaining about its practices or questioning its legitimacy.


Advanced Safety Solutions LLC, which has a location at 3490 Whitney Ave., owes some of its employees money and equipment and has been collecting sales taxes illegally, according to the bureau.


The bureau has notified several agencies that could potentially pursue legal action against the company, including the state attorney general's office and postal inspectors, said bureau President Paulette Hotton.

State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal confirmed Friday that his office is investigating.

Mark Mingolo, Advanced Safety Solution's regional vice president, could not be reached for comment Friday. He previously was the president of multiple companies nationwide making identical offers, according to the bureau.

The Better Business Bureau first began investigating Advanced Safety Solutions in June 2005 six months after the company formed here in December 2004 and recently revoked its bureau membership.

The company has an "unsatisfactory" record due to its failure to provide the bureau with verifiable company information and its failure to answer a complaint.

Advanced Safety Solutions, which sells safety equipment and clothing, also has locations in Berlin, Conn., Farmington and Warwick, R.I. The company also reported an office in New Britain, but the bureau said it couldn't verify that address.

Callers have told the bureau that the company, which places "Help Wanted" ads online and in Connecticut and Massachusetts newspapers, hires 20 to 30 people every week, offering paid training and good salaries to become office managers.

In order to complete the office manager training, employees must sell fire safety equipment kits to family, friends and neighbors. The company promises eventual office manager salaries of $4,000 to $5,000 a month, according to the bureau.

Some callers have not been paid money they are owed for training, while others said they received merchandise late or not at all, according to the bureau. Some complained about having to use their Social Security numbers as identification on sales receipts.

In addition, the company requires all new hires to pay a $75 nonrefundable background check fee, and a $95 fire safety kit fee to be refunded after training, the bureau said.

The bureau also determined the company is illegally collecting sales tax on fire safety equipment without the proper state permit.

The bureau also found the company has routinely used fire extinguishers containing halon for demonstration purposes, even though by law the ozone-depleting substance may only be used in emergencies. The company also has not properly marked the fire extinguishers for shipping, the bureau found.

In addition to Advanced Safety Solutions, Mingolo previously was the president of similar companies: Executive Safe Life of New York and New Jersey; Safety Technology LLC of Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina; Executive Plus Inc., doing business as Unique World Services of Tennessee and Alabama; and Unique Worldwide Services Inc. of Alabama and Georgia.

This company is now operating out of Connecticut calling itself Advanced Safety Solutions. "Mr.M" or Mark Anthony (AKA Mark Mingolo) is the "regional director." Jamie Jenkins is the office manager. His twin brother Mike Jenkins was around all the time. He "just got his gold pin."

If this sounds familiar and they have moved on to a new city I urge you to report them to the BBB, your local news, chamber of commerse and anything else you can think of. They will be operating under a new name next time.

I worked side by side with the owner of UWSI (Mark Mingolo) and I can say that he is as crooked as they come. I understand that your experience with the company is a positive one, but the well will run dry VERY soon....I was affiliated with the company in a northern suburb of Atlanta Ga. back in 1998. I was promised all of the things that everyone else was promised. With no product in return. He went even as far as to take us (manager trainees) on a trip to Jackson, Ms to the Silver Star casino on weekend. He said that it was the corporate meeting. But that was the beginning of the end. I noticed that there were 5-6 people in a room, when we stopped for gas, he smelled like he had Cheech and Chong in the car smoking a ton of weed...Once I made my goal of $2000 (sound familiar) I was given another challenge of another $2000 (like the first wasnt hard enough). I began seeing people taking out loans to just meet their quota. So I then started Opening my eyes and seeing this company for what it was. I remembered him (Mark) saying that there was a warehouse that stored all of the products and were shipped from. NOPE!!!!! The warehouse turned out to be the storage room of the main office. Then after we had a meeting in the Stone Mountain office, the liquor started flowing pretty heavy.. Not to mention no products to my customers yet, and he was the one taking the orders. Not some flunky wanna be manager who was this oriental by the name of Hib.....Amanda, I have been, am and always been a God fearing man, but our religious beliefs has nothing to do with this sick midget of a man. I pray that God opens your eyes and shows you who you are dealing with before they have you hurt anyone else, or ruin your relationships any farther...

These are some real good scam artist. They take you out get you drunk. In the time that I was with the company I say minors drinking, doing drugs, sex, lies, and what ever you could imagine. I was lured into this company and put over $7,000 of my own money into this company. How stupid could I have been.

Well, there's certainly alot of rumors floating around about how UWSI/Safety Technology is a corrupt company. Sadly to say, I have to agree. I worked for Safety Technology this past summer (until august 2003). I sold about $1000 worth of products to my family and friends. To this day (12/05/03) none of my customers have received their products. Okay, maybe there's a mixup. I call my office manager. Phone has been disconnected. I call another manager at my office. Disconnected. Go to the office, no longer open. There's really no other way to explain that. I think this company could be very successful. If it was honest. The order forms say the product takes 8-10 weeks to be shipped. That is complete bullcrap. Nothing should take that long to ship. It is sad that I have to pay back my friends and family for these products out of my own pocket. I've also lost a certain amount of trust from those people. This company needs to be stopped. When I worked there, I had to travel all over the place. Sometimes I would have to go to Alabama twice a week for some kind of meeting. The players (mingolo, fuquay, and mc adams) are the ones making all the money. And I know fuquay is messed up. With all the money he's ripping off of people, he's only driving a buick. Meanwhile Mingolo's bragging about how he has 3 mercedes' and a huge house. It's just sad that these kind of people exist (and get away with it). I should've known when I went in for the interview. After hearing that we had to sell $2000 (yeah right) worth of products to get our office, I was the biggest dickhead to the manager in hopes that I wouldn't get the job. Well, I did. Alot of the people I was in training with had high hopes and were good people and I'm disappointed that they were let down by dishonest crooks. Somebody please read this and turn them in.

I do not begrudge you your Christian faith or values, however, stating that you don't mislead people because you are a Christian doesn't automatically make you believable.

Every hear of Jim Baker? He was a Christian. Would you trust that guy? How about all the white-power nazis? Many of them profess to be Christians. The Klu Klux Klan...too MANY to list. Should I go out and join up?

Obviously there are many GOOD Christians out there as well (I believe you to be one). My point is that saying you're a Christian is not an end-all statement that will make people go: "They're a Christian! They can do no wrong! We can trust them!"

As to the validity of UWS...I have my doubts, but have no personal experience with the company so will reserve comment. I am naturally suspicious of ANY company that requires me to sell anything and or pay them money. But that's just me.

Do you know me personally to say that I have a steep learning curve? Furthermore, how can you make an opinion about a company or someone simply based on what you have read. There are people that slander Wal-Mart, other religions, vegetarians, etc. publicly just because they don't believe that it is the right thing; in addtion, it is because they perceive it wrong or they don't agree with other people's ways.

Do you always judge a book by it's cover? How would you feel if someone was prejudging you or a company that you are invovled in by reading an article or heresay? The truth is that every company has certain employees who are unsatisfied.

Check the Better Business Bureau on some of your favorite companies and see how many complaints there are. In closing, all that I am trying to state on this web site is that for me and my family, we know that it is not a scam, cult, or fraud, and just like everyone else on here, we have or right to an opinion also. I have also already stated that I genuinely believe in saving people's lives for a living because that is what my dad did for a living as a fireman for 24 years.

Yet another rebuttal by you and you mention nothing about customer satisfaction.

Why should we buy from UWSI again? Why should we work for a pyramid style recruiting group? Why should we have to pay for a job? Pathetic.

I can't believe that all these things were said about Mr Mac Adams and Mark Mingolo! In the few days that I started working for Unique, 8 people have been promoted to Managers and given their offices.

I have met every one of my goals and have received every incentive offered if those goals were met. No rip off here! If you didn't get the promise made to you, then you did not meet your goal, plain and simple.

The goals set is to test your determination to succeed, incentives offered to inspire.

If you cant keep up, then it's best you quit the program. I have no complaints because I work hard and reap the benefits of my efforts.

I will succeed because I have a strong company with high morals and standards right there beside me, pushing me to only give my best and be all I can be.

And the managers inspiring me started out exactly where I started out, as a trainee, so obviously they made it through sheer determination and were compensated for it, by Unique, therefore fulfilling their promises.

I have to travel to meetings sometimes held in my hometown, sometimes further away and in my opinion, the meetings were necessary and created opportunity to meet other people in the company and see the expansion, see the success of others and move you to be successful and not give up. Nothing worthwhile is gained easily. There are sacrifices but there are also rewards.
