We had booked a company trip for our executive and management team to fly to Mexico for a 4 day gathering. Due to the Swine flu outbreak we have decided to cancel our trip to Mexico but, UNITED AIRLINES will not refund us! The flight for two of our staff has been canceled out of Washington. But, for the rest of us our flights are not canceled and therefore, they will not refund us our money. We have spoken to two supervisors at the call center which were both very rude. They would speak over you and raise their voice and argue with you...it was an interesting experience being a business owner myself. They only thing they are willing to do is to offer us a future credit or we can book for a different destination. But guess what, they have no availability for to any other destination and their fair rates are much higher because, the booking in advance fee does not apply. We asked if they could at least waive that since it is not our fault and that we can only travel on those dates since it is a company event. Of course they said NO..........

I know other consumers are being effected by this and maybe UNITED AIRWAYS has a class action on their hands.

One of the Supervisors actually said that they can not refund because then the UNITED AIRWAYS would lose money! How funny is that!

They would not let you escalade to any other person and they had no other solutions...every single destination that they check was either fully booked or did not have availability for 20 people. What are we suppose to do??? We asked for the refund so we can book with a different airline...they would not even let us book with their partners.

Have you been scammed by United Airlines?

#2 Consumer Suggestion

You Voluntarily Cancelled

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 14, 2009

When you cancel a non-refundable ticket you do NOT get your money back. You are allowed the value of the ticket (less a cancellation/change fee) and can travel within a year of the time you bought the first ticket. If when you travel the ticket costs more you pay the difference. If you are arranging business travel where a number of people are travelling from different places it is advisable to purchase full fare coach tickets that are fully refundable. It costs more but you get your money back if you have to cancel. This is NOT United's fault. They flew that day to Mexico. You decided not to fly with them for whatever reason. You don't get a refund on a non-refundable ticket. Arguing with customer service outsourced to some third world country is a waste of time.

Even here??

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Yes even here the "All mighty Class Action Lawsuit" is suggested. Just where is it required that a company MUST provide compensation if you decide(for what ever reason) to change your travel plans. Then if they don't they must have broken some law and need to be sued?

You stated they cancelled the flight from Washington and they apparently refunded the money. But because the other flights were not cancelled the only thing they are willing to do is give you credit for other flights.

Bad Customer Service..Perhaps.
Class Action lawsuit..No.

"What are we suppose to do???"
- Wait a few weeks for the "executives and management team" to regroup and rebook either to Mexico or find another destination.
