In April I spoke with United Moving Systems rep Gilles and we did a detailed quote. I went room to room and gave him all of the info. He sent me a quote based on 512 cubic feet. His quote only showed the larger items I had mentioned. When I questioned this he advised that most of the small things will fill in the spaces. He offered me a discount and I agreed to use United Moving. On 5/4 I received an email from Max Beras that Gilles was no longer with the company and he would be my rep. The movers came on 6/19, the driver advised he thought it would be more than 512 cubic feet, I explained the detailed conversation I had with Gilles. I sat out front for most of the time, allowing the movers to do what they needed to do. More than once I had gone upstairs and watched one or another mover put one or two items into a box and fill it with paper. I did not question this practice and believed I was dealing with professionals. Once everything was on the truck the driver advised me my final bill was more than double of what I was quoted. My initial quote was for $2250 ($2406 + .01 materials + .01 1 month storage - $156.02 discount) and the bill was now $4700 per the driver. I advised immediately I did not agree and that I felt the cubic feet were incorrect. He showed me along the top inside of the truck where it showed numbers and that was the cubic feet. I still did not agree but they had my things on the truck and the driver said I could talk to the office to resolve the situation. I immediately emailed Max on 6/19. On 6/21 I began trying to contact Max via the telephone. I left 3 messages between 6/21 and 6/29. On 7/2 I sent a second email to max advising I was contacting the media, BBB and an attorney because his company had failed to respond. Max emailed me back on 7/2 (see attached email). He agreed to forward my dispute to the General Manager for resolution (again see attached email). It was the week of July 4th so I waited until Monday 7/9 to follow up. I called the office and asked to speak to the General Manager and was put through to Rene. Rene advised me he had no idea who I was or anything regarding my dispute or issue. I tried to explain to him that my dispute was over the amount due and he said he did not handle those situations and that I would need to speak to Mike who was not in the office at the moment. Rene took down my correct phone information, even though I had forwarded it to Max on several occasions, it had not been updated in the system. Rene advised he would have Mike call me ASAP. I then emailed Max again requesting information, I advised him of the conversation I had with Rene and that I was tired of getting a run around and I wanted answers. I still have never gotten a response to that email. I called again on 7/11 and requested to speak to Max. I was put on hold and the person who answered the phone came back and asked who was calling. I identified myself and was put on hold for over 15 minutes. While I was on hold I found information on the BBB website and found the name Tasha Bishara, so I called back and requested to speak to her. The person who answered the phone requested to know who I was and then put me on hold. I waited for 30 minutes before hanging up. I filed a complaint with the BBB on 7/11 and I contacted NBC10 on 7/13. I heard from United Moving on the morning of 7/16. Mike called and said he could work with me on the amount due. I expressed my concerns with him regarding the movers that picked up my things and the packing they did. He supported their actions and was only willing to reduce the total amount to $3787.50. I explained to Mike more than once that I did not agree with the amount due but I agreed to pay it because I knew if they did not deliver my things by the end of the week then they would start to charge me additional money. Mike also advised me that he was not authorized to do anything more than reduce the amount he had. The movers delivered my things on 7/20 to a storage area and when the truck was opened my things came out to the 1000 cubic feet marker, which is what the 1st mover had explained to me. As the movers unloaded the truck many things came off damaged and obviously poorly treated. When the movers got to the 400 cubic foot marker he advised the rest of the things in the truck were not mine. They had another delivery. Therefore this supported that the initial movers had not packed the truck correctly or my things, which was evident by the damage. I called the company IMMEDIATELY before the movers left. I spoke to Rene and demanded that they refund my money. He advised he would not do anything and would not put me through to anyone who could help. I explained to him why I was frustrated and he finally advised me I would have to talk to Mike to resolve the issue of the amount of cubic footage. I advised him that I had been disputing it from the beginning and no one would listen. Rene advised me he would speak to Mike and Mike would call me back in 20 minutes. That was at 1:20pm on 7/20, as of todays date (7/24) I have not gotten a call back. I advised Rene that I would accept that I had 650 cubic feet at the most and that the company owed me $732.50 for the additional cubic footage I was charged. The company has been completely unprofessional from the moment the movers showed up to pack my things, they were careless in how they packed the truck, they were careless in handling my items and they refused to speak to me every time I called. The original contract was for $2250, I have paid $3787.50, at this point I want $1537.50, the amount over the original contract price, refunded to me. I have spent hours trying to contact the company and had to borrower money to pay the overage because the company refused to act professionally at any point in time.
