I got a call in November about being selected for some sweepstakes entry where I could win lots of money, and that I was chosen to represent California. I was stupid enough to fall for it. Then came the second phone call, where United Publishers of America said they would give me a diamond necklace and a watch for free, as well as getting a bunch of magazines. All I had to do was give them my debit card number to verify my information. Like a sucker, I fell for it.

When I saw the charges on my card, I couldn't believe the price for the magazines. I wanted to cancel, but the woman on the phone said everything was already paid for, so I had to pay for the subscriptions. I told her I didn't have enough in my account for $60-$90 of magazines, and she said the lowest price was $38.87. I didn't even get the magazines until more than a month afterwards. The diamond necklace and watch? Haven't even gotten it.

Then, I was getting a bunch of other unauthorized charges on my card, and my bank froze my account. I had to get a new card.

It wasn't until recently that I researched the internet to learn more about UPA, and I've found 'scams' as part of related searches on google.com. I keep getting contacted by some woman who pretends to be civil, but when I asked about the CEO of the company, she became unpleasant and pushy, telling me that she would be gracious to me and give me five days to pay off my bill.

Now I'm going to call the FTC on how to do this. Maybe even the police or attorney general to get rid of these scam artists.
