I went to the Post Office last night to mail a letter. I could not find my book of stamps and they seem to change the prices at will so i decided to buy one there. Much to my horror, the USPS no longer SELLS stamps in a manner that a lot of people can buy them.
I made sure that I had about 50 cents worth of change with me and I was all ready to put it in the little machine as I had done before. ALL that they have in the Louisville Kentucky area post offices is some computer operated machine that will ONLY sell you books of stamps and ONLY accept a debit card. I don't know, "maybe" a credit card too.
Not EVERY American has a debit card! It is NOT required. COINS and CASH are STILL legal tender in the US! That machine refused to take it from me! Hence, I was not ALLOWED to mail my letter (which were taxes - which must be post marked by today).
I am not sure if this practice is quite "unconstitutional" or not (but it got your attention). I know that the Post Office is a US Governmental agency (a .gov on the internet) and that the office was probably formed as one of the first US services. It is darn near the "right" of every American to be able to use it.
Even if you DID have a debit card, the minimum amount of stamps that they would sell you was an $18(US) book. I don't think it should be a "requirement" for someone to have $18 to send a $0.41 letter! If it were me, I wouldn't use anywhere NEAR the rest of the book before the price of the stamps went up yet again. Oh yeah, I guess you could buy a book of "makeup" stamps at that point - for another $18....
I know a lot of people that wouldn't be driving their cars in this day and age if you were REQUIRED to buy $18 worth of gas everytime you pulled up at a station...
I am not a homeless or destitute person, but I can imagine the scenario of a person walking for miles through the snow and 18 degree weather last night to mail an important document that HAD to be postmarked by yesterday. There would be NO WAY that they could do that! I DO find THAT to be unconstitutional. This hypothetical person could lose their home, car, job... over TYPICAL GOVERNMENT BS!!!
Oh, for those of you that might think of some smart-aleky response like "why didn't you go during business hours?" Well, I did. MY business hours. It IS unconstitutional for them to impose their hours upon me. "Life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness" IS the constitution. For the hour that I spent trying to deal with their "reality" I can't say that I was pursuing any of the above 3. Just taking hours OFF of my life in frustration.
The Post Office used to be gold! Through rain, sleet, snow - however that rhyme USED to go. Now, I find another service that they don't seem to offer on almost a daily basis. They used to have a 24/7/365 office on Crittenden Drive. It now closes at 9PM (I think). I don't know. I have no reason to go there. The Gardner Lane Office used to be open until 9PM. It is now 7PM. I had entirely another issue with the USPS last Friday night. A Postal employee told me that they were open the next day, Saturday from 7-7. I got there at 5PM, they had closed at 3PM!!! I guess the famous "post office test" is now to weed IN the idiots...
There seems to be no accountability - try making a claim if you have to! The online tracking is a FARCE! I have had 0% luck with EVER finding out where a package was - until LONG after it was delivered. For these "services" they charge on the order of FOUR TIMES AS MUCH AS UPS! I have proof from just a week ago - $54 (for a customer to send a package to me) vs. $13 (for me to ship it back). I get complete tracking through UPS and know within an hour where my package is and when it was delivered.
No, I don't work for UPS. If the USPS ran as tight of a ship as UPS, I would never have had a reason to search out this site.
The USPS is now also taking out most of our corner mail boxes. Everytime I turn around, I get less from them. But everytime I WANT to mail a letter, it costs me more.
Listening to BO's first Presidential Address right now. He was elected for CHANGE! I just heard him swear to uphold the Constitution. I sure hope he can do something with the idiotic, unconstitutional Post Office.

Constitutional Argument not founded in the Constitution

The operative phrase your argument depends upon "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" does not appear in the United States Constitution. It actually appears on the Declaration of Independence. Influential as this document may be, it does not carry the weight of law in the United States.
It should be further noted that your contention that the holding Business hours not in accord with your own would place many business in violation of what you believe to be your constitutional rights.

As far as losing the corner mailboxes, that's true. However, there are mailboxes in many convenient locations. Additionally, I can just put outgoing mail in my mailbox and the mailman takes them with him.
Not perfect but they do an awesome job. I'm certain that out of the millions and millions of transactions there some problems but I, personally, can not ever remember having any kind of problem in my 66 years.
Just follow any of the above suggestions for stamps and you'll be fine. Just relax.

Unconstitutional? That's a bit over the top, wouldn't you say? A quick reading of the constitution is probably in order.
Like you, I was a little miffed when the USPS got rid of their stamp vending machines. My habit was to visit the post office after hours and by a book when needed. That said, it didn't take much to adjust. I now buy several books of stamps and keep 'em handy.
Your argument against buying a book of stamps is that the price will go up before you've finished using it. First of all, they sell books of as few as ten stamps. We're not talking about a huge investment here. Additionally, you don't have to worry about the prices going up. The USPS sells a "forever stamp". It's good for 1st class postage and will remain valid even if the price goes up.
You don't have to buy them during post office window hours either. Stamps are available at common locations like grocery stores, drug stores, etc... Use the "Service Locator" on the USPS website to find the vender nearest to you.
My solution was to order stamps online. I ordered 100 stamps, which will probably last me a few years. Since they are "forever stamps", I won't have to worry about buying stamps for a long time.

That if you go to the post office on your lunch break or any other time DURING THEIR NORMAL OPERATING HOURS WHICH SHOULD BE POSTED THAT YOU CAN
ACTUALLY BUY STAMPS FROM THE PEOPLE AT THE COUNTERS INSIDE THE POST OFFICE!
REAL LIVE POSTAL EMPLOYEES WILL SELL YOU A STAMP FOR CASH MONEY.
THEY WILL SELL YOU AS MANY POSTAGE STAMPS AS YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY.
RIGHT THERE BEFORE YOUR EYES!
YOU CAN PUT THESE POSTAGE STAMPS ON THE ENVELOPE OR WHATEVER YOU INTEND TO MAIL --- RIGHT THERE IN THE POST OFFICE!
AND SOMETIMES THE POST OFFICE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OPEN ON SATURDAY MORNINGS TOO AND YOU CAN GO THERE TO YOUR LOCAL POST OFFICE AND THEY WILL SELL YOU STAMPS AND WEIGH Y(OUR PACKAGES AND DO ALL OF THE STUFF THAT THE POST OFFICE HAS TRADITIONALL DONE FOR YEARS --- WELL, EVERY SINCE I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE KID ANYWAY AND THAT HAS BEEN ONE HECK OF A LONG TIME --A REAL LONG TIME...
I TOOK OUT MY POCKET COPY OF THE US CONSTITUTION AND I DON'T SEEM TO SEE ANYTHING ABOUT STAMPS IN THERE BEING A RIGHT BUT IT OUGHT TO BE...
You can even SEND someone down to that same post office during normal business hours and they can buy the postage stamps you need...in case you are unable to get to the post office customer service when they are open.

Okay so any government agency(or perhaps you even think any business) who does not do business by YOUR hours is unconstitutional. Okay so that would mean that every government office is unconstitutional according to your twisted logic...Yea good luck with that.
If you go after business hours and even stuck it in the mailbox it would NOT have been postmarked yesterday stamps or not, which you somehow think is also unconstitutional. Perhaps you should have a little less "pursuit of happiness" in your life and get the things that are required to be done, finished before the day it is due.

First of all, there is NO "constitutional right" to the use or availability of any postal service facility, or the availability of any product. That statement was just ridiculous.
Second, exactly what "taxes" are due by 1-20? I don't know of any.
Please elaborate.
Third, you must have been a spoiled brat growing up. If you don't get your way, it is a rip off, right? WRONG!!!
How stupid is it to get in your car and drive to the post office to buy 1 stamp?
You had several options here, but you CHOOSE the option that does not work!
Are you telling us that you cannot get into the post office anytime during business hours? I find this hard to believe. I have worked all 3 shifts and have always been able to get in when I had to.
WHY in this day do you not have a debit card or credit card? Again, this is a choice YOU made. Only true degenerate lowlife do not have at least one or the other. It is just the way the world works now. Move into the 21st century.
And, why not just buy a book of stamps so you have some on hand?
Then, you wouldn't have to drive to the post office just to mail 1 letter!
You could mail it right from your house!
The bottom line is, you just expect everything to be your way.
Well, time to wake up, as it will never happen.
