alright guys, this guy is a crook and possibly a drug dealer FYI, and I am not exaggerating this fact. I worked for them for about 3 1/2 weeks, they tell you that you need to give 7 days notice to leave or they will
suspend your license, and take you to court for $5000. This is total bull and I had to talk to a lawyer about it.
ANY TIME YOU WORK IN A PLACE WHERE EVERYTHING HAPPENS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS YOU SHOULD BE
SKEPTICAL, AND ANY TIME YOU CAN'T MAKE LEASE AT A COMPANY YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED.
I WORKED FOR HIM FOR 3 1/2 WEEKS AND LOST MONEY, DUG INTO MY OWN BANK ACCOUNT TO PAY THE LEASE. Although I probably lost more than I should have I didn't want to work in a piece of crap car that
they wont even replace the battery on, after dying multiple times a week. I was not about to be stranded in the cold AGAIN. If you bring it to the shop they will waste your time to make it hard to pay your lease for the day which results in a 25 dollar charge. I Have slept in that taxi many times and been there for 20 hours before just to make lease, it has nothing to do with what time you work like steve will say. They have too many taxis and too bad of a reputation to get any other buisness than the BS school charges/elderly charges that they already take 20% away from there drivers on
HERE IS WHAT MY LAWYER SAID
IF YOU WORKED FOR GORDON AND HE THREATENED TO HOLD YOUR LICENSE: go to the Illinois Attorney General's office and report them.
IF YOU ARE STILL WORKING FOR GORDON AND WANT TO LEAVE turn in your keys drop off your vehicle if he tries to stop you ask him if you are his "employee," you are not. tell him you are an independent contractor and he can't hold that over your head, you are free to come and go as you please
ONCE YOU HAVE LEFT IF YOU WANT TO GET THEM IN TROUBLE
go to the IDES(illinois department of employment security) file for unemployment, and explain his scam on the appliccation, One question you will be asked is did you quit. The answer could be that you were being
charged back more money than you could make and that the employer refused to pay you wages.
ALSO CONTACT ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
I have been at a new company (www.a1cabdispatch.com) for less than a week and already made more money than my entire time at universal
IT TAKES 5 minutes to change a battery, and less than that to test it. Dropped off my car one day to try and get it replaced, after sitting in the office for 40 minutes rich comes out the garage door, I peek in and nobody is working on my taxi they are just wasting my time
Best money I ever made there was on my 2nd to last day I got a 40 dollar tip early on. I already got the 25 dollar charge that day so they where sending me orders(only because I already got the charge and they want
there money immediately after you receive your late fee to ensure they get payed in case you decide to quit) I kept BSing them all day saying I didn't have it and I walked out with 50 bucks which still didn't even
out what I had already put in from my own bank account. The next day I payed a portion of my lease then turned in my credits 2 days early for the charges (which equaled the rest of my lease seeing as I would never see that money after I quit I counted it towards me lease got a receipt threw my keys threw the window and left BEFORE GORDON COULD TRY TO THREATEN ME HE HAS BEFORE AND IF HE DOES PRESS CHARGES ON HIM HE DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING ON YOU READ THE RIPOFF REPORT
Personally for Steve and Rich's sake I'm going to say that I get the impression they are both good guys and Gordon just has some leverage possibly illegal over them, and the night dispatcher Chris is definitely a good guy, I feel bad for all of them
DON'T GIVE ONE WEEK NOTICE THEY WILL TRY TO KEEP YOU THERE BY GIVING ORDERS TO OTHER PEOPLE SO YOU OWE THEM MONEY WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE
my lawyer put it this way "This sounds like a classic "independent contractor" situation where there is nothing independent at all about the work being performed by the worker. The principal owns the cabs, directs the work through its dispatcher, the driver is not independently established in this industry."
