I was woundering if there any attorney out there that can give me some legal advice or someone in general give me some advise. I attending UOP online or also know as Axia college online and I transferred out and have been attending my Local college here for last year. I went to apply for my finical aid for next semister and I got letter saying they are not going to give me finical aid because UOP would not release my transcripts.

Well, I call the school of UOP like they asked me to find out why they would not release my transcripts. They are saying I owe them 2800.00 Dallors and my transcripts will not be released. Well, they also said they did not get no grants or nothing from me while i attended there. Well, I have all the paper work from FAsFA Site where they did recieve money and bunch of it at that. SOmething I never seen a penny of.

I need to know if there attorney there that can give me some advise how to get my transcript release because I only have a semister LEFT and I have my RN but with out the finical aid help there no way I can make with four girls a very sick husband with paying for it out of my pocket plus I am going to be very upset if i get screwed out of getting my degree because of these people that want to be dishonest and take you for everything that you got.

University of Phoenix Lies Then Gives Students Hard Time if They Want Out

AUTHOR: Ruth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 06, 2009

I don't know about anyone else, but I was never given the option to have my funds sent directly to me so that I could pay UOP myself. And, there is no reason for UOP not to take the money they are owed first prior to sending the rest back to the lender. The only reason UOP does this is to try to prevent anyone from leaving. Also, I was lied about the costs of UOP. I was told the online classes were only $258 per credit hour by my recruiter. Here, it was well over $500 per credit hour, (big difference). The next thing UOP will do no matter how much you ask them not to is call you at work while you are actually trying to work and fast talk you. Also, if you ask them to send it to you in black and white, because your mind is still on work and not everything they are talking about, good luck getting it.

I was also told by my recruiter that all my credits would transfer to UOP from Bryant & Stratton. Not only did they not, UOP was trying to get me to retake my last eight classes that I had from my previous college, including classes like Accounting Principles and Cost Accounting and many others. (Bryant & Stratton called it Principles of Accounting; UOP called it Accounting Principles). I graduated with two Associate degrees from my previous college with a 3.96 g.p.a. I went part time, taking two classes per semester, which is 15 weeks long, with a little bit of a break before the next semester. Yes, it took me four years to get my first degree, but I was able to learn and retain and keep my grades up. I also had time for friends, family and myself. I kept my stress level down as well, doing it this way as I also worked full time.

There are many students who still want to finish college that do not want to be forced into the "fast track". This would be especially hard on a new mother working full time and trying to keep up with accelerated classes who is trying to take care of a baby. The baby would not get the time with the new mom it needs in order to bond nor would it get the attention it actually needs.

I tried to explain to both my councelor and to the financial aid adviser, (Chelsea and Sharon) that the fast track was not for me and I was only looking for part time. To me, taking four 5 week courses in just twenty weeks is the equivalant of full time. I was not looking for that and I told them. I also explained that I have a very hectic job at work because I am basically doing the job of more than two people and that when I get home, I am exhausted with a headache and need time to destress. Chelsea had told me that I would need to put aside at least fifteen hours per week for one class. I told her that was too much and I believed in still having a life even though I was attending college. I was told to "be tough" and give it a try.

Well, I gave it a try and I had a very painful migraine headache four days out of seven. It was not that the work was hard. It was the amount of work in such a short period of time. It was a lot of reading and a lot of homework and a lot of APA style research papers to write. Also, you have to set time aside to be part of a learning team. This is not too bad if you have a respectable team, but if you get a bad team, your grade is fried.

I know what team work is because I've worked several different accounting jobs in the last sixteen years and many of my co-workers rely on me to meet my deadline so that they can meet theirs with different tasks that need done. I have many people at work that will back me up and say that I go beyond the call of duty and that I am of great help to our organization. With UOA, you have to coordinate with team mates that are in different time zones and different work schedules. Not everyone is considerate enough to consider the other team mates and not all of them pull their own weight. I recently had a team leader that was just interested in dictating everything that needed done and she had no communication skills or concern for the other team mates. She would do things like let us know when our part was due and even though I would turn my part in four days before that date, she would not even look at it until that very last day, then tell me it was not what she wanted (even though it was what she asked for) then turn in something with just her name and one other student, leaving the rest of us off the paper.

I recently dropped out of their college. I was never told by my counselor regarding an official withdrawl form that would need to be filled out. I found the website here that I needed to go to and filled it out and faxed it to the two numbers listed on the bottom. Don't bother to tell me that I should have "read" it in the beginning because there is not one soul who is going to read everything from top to bottom unless they had nothing to do for 72 hours. Even then, one would need a lawyer in order to help interpret what it said. When you have your recruiter on the other end walking you through everything and telling you that seats are going to fill up if you don't register now, there is no way anyone is able to read it all.

Also, UOP will keep calling you at work. My counselor would call me at work, leave a message, then call me on my cell phone, leave the same message then turn around and email me as well. This was over-kill and very annoying. I even told her the best time to contact me and she would not contact me at that time.

Also, do your research regarding UOP. They are under the gun right now because of their tactics and the way they treat their students. I am in the process of seeing if there are any class action lawsuits started and more than likely, I will report them to the Attorney General for the unreasonable treatment from them.

More colleges need to offer an "in-class" degree for Accounting as this is what I've done all my working life, I have an Associates Degree and wish to further my education and I know there are other people in my shoes that feel the same way that also are not looking for the fast track to a degree. With the demand in the job market for Accounting and the shortage of people with Accounting degrees, one would think these colleges would get a clue. It is difficult for someone like me to finish their degree because of this. This may be part of the reason why there are so few Accounting majors right now even though employers still have positions to fill.

Your transcripts and your history with UOP (Axia)

AUTHOR: Educateyourself - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 04, 2009

Please detail how you left the school, in other words did you attend for a few weeks then drop your classes, withdraw, or leave during the middle of your financial aid disbursement? Did you fill out an official withdrawal form?

You did not "see the money" since you probably did not choose to manage your own funds but rather have the school receive your financial aid from the lender you chose during the application process.

If you dropped from the class the school returns your financial aid (which is not YOUR money until YOU meet the requirements that the government stipulates). Once your money is returned to the lender it means you OWE for what you used since your financial aid will not cover it since the school cannot use it.

Transcripts are NEVER released from ANY school that a student owes money too. Would you release a product to someone that owed you money for something? In regards to your financial aid, if it is true that your current school said you cannot get financial aid it could be for a few reasons 1) You never officially withdrew from UOP 2) You are in default on your student loans 3) You have an overlapping aid year, meaning you used too much of your financial aid available for your aid year and it will not cover the cost at your local school

You all want it both ways

AUTHOR: Caernarvon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 03, 2009

On the one hand are the people that claim the school quality stinks and on the other are those complaining (apparently those that have actually attended and know) that it was too hard for them. On the one hand it is too expensive but on the other you folks signed up and knew what you were getting into. Here's the facts from someone that has reviewed material on this school in depth.

1. The quality of the education is mediocre, read here, better than as many as they're worse than - they make you study, they make you turn in your work, they will fail or suspend you for academic dishonesty. They are nationally and regionally accredited. They have some decent specialty accreditations. There's some argument over AACSB or ACBSP for business programs, they're both (and are the only two) recognized by CHEA - beyond that we're just listening to opinion.

2. They are very expensive. You're paying for a valid degree from an accredited school that has low admission standards. You're paying in part for convenience. Remember, standards at most schools are in place to keep folks that can't cut the mustard from hurting themselves. 99% of the griping here is mainly because people got in, found out they couldn't handle it, then were still holding the bag on the loans. Most other schools protect you from yourself by saying you can't go to their school if you don't meet rigid criteria. UoP will let you (even encourage you to) screw yourself over - but make no mistake, you are doing it to yourself. It's like buying a gun for home protection that is always loaded and doesn't have a safety. Very nice to have on hand when someone breaks in to hurt you or your family, very bad if you aren't smart or disciplined enough to store or use it safely. Many would say, "just buy a gun with a safety." Imagine a world where only rich or advantaged citizens could affford to have a safety on their guns. That's how higher education is in our country, but that's another topic.

3. UoP has VERY high graduation numbers for individuals in demographics that wouldn't otherwise get degrees. Notice I didn't say graduation rate. Because they'll admit anyone, many people from populations that are, shall we say, underrepresented in other schools go here. A high number do not make it through. Many do. Is UoP providing a fabulous service or jerking people around for greed? You decide. (I say 60% service/40% greed)

University of Phoenix is a fraudulant company

AUTHOR: Ruth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 30, 2009

As far as I am concerned, University of Phoenix is a fraudulant company. I was even lied to at the very beginning as to what it costs per credit. Once they have your information, and have you signed up they are like a cult. If you try to tell them that you are done with their college, they will harrass you and harrass you and harrass you. I am getting ready to report them to the Attorney General and the Fair Trade Commision as we speak.

First, they take out financial aid for classes you are not even in yet and start "scheduling" you for classes before you are even done with your first class. Also, UOP is a college that is supposed to accept Bryant & Stratton's credits. Well, they are trying to sign me up for the same eight classes that I recently had last at B&S in order to get my Associate's degree.

I also tried to explain to them that these "accellerated" five week long classes were not for me because I worked a very stressful full time job and I could not handle the amount of hours required. They still talked me into giving it a try. Well, I did give it a try and it did not work. The stress has been causing me major migraine headaches, has broken down my immune system, (I normally never get sick and I have been sick three times since the beginning of February), and I've even skipped periods due to the fact that this is too much for me. I normally just take two in-campus classes per semester, for a fifteen week semester. I prefer the in-class experience and I prefer to meet my classmates and instructor face-to-face. I believe in that personal face-to-face experience and am not a fan of everything being on-line.

Just an example of what I have gone through: after leaving work with a migraine headache, I go online to see what the assignments are for the week. In one week, there are at least four to five 35 page chapters to read, daily questions, (where you have to answer the question and respond to at least two of your classmates responses), which a lot of time requires research before you can answer, and you have to be in the daily questions room at least four days out of the week responding to your classmates and instructor, an APA style research paper, of at least 1,000 words each week, (many times the topics are hard to research and you spend hours trying to research before you can even answer), and a summary post each week. On top of that, you are required to be part of a learning team, which is another 30% of your grade.

These learning teams are fine if you have teammates that know how to communicate, have respect and courtesy and show concern for their other teammates, and listen to what the other teammates have to say. If you don't have this and the leader tries to disgard you, you will be screwed. I went through this. They were not confirming meeting times, or they would plan a meeting at 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday night, or if you turned in something for your part of what was asked and the team leader did not like it they would wait until the very last minute of it being due to let you know then turn something in with just a couple names on it excluding your name from the paper. I am normally a straight A student and after this second class, I was discouraged to even continue. This has the ability to destroy good students who are trying their best.

Also, they are threating me with out-of-pocket expenses if I quit right now, but they may go ahead - I cannot pay them what I do not have. This was my reason for going to college as I do not make enough to even meet basic needs right now and I thought I would be better off with a bachelor degree. I just know in my heart that unless I want a heart attack or want to end up dead, I need to stop going to this fraudulant college. Since I've already taken two classes with them, they should be able to return the unused portion of the financial aid. If they claim they cannot I believe they are lying in order to not let you go or to prevent you from continueing on somewhere where you actually belong.

I believe they are "required" to not let anyone go and to continue to harrass the students until they give in.

They claim that these on-line classes are designed to give people more time with family but I ended up having less time with my husband than when I was taking two classes a semester in-campuss because of the demands of the on-line course. I do not know how a mother with young children can handle it unless they are actually not watching their kids or not spending enough time with them. Even if they have someone else to watch the kids, I do not believe these kids, unless it is a stay at home mom, is getting the actual attention they need from mom.

I have a friend that is still trying to repair the relationship with her son after going for her Accounting degree.

More colleges need to offer in-class degrees. Not too many offer this for Accounting.

Again, UOA needs to be looked into for their practices. I would not recommend this college to anyone.

Get Your Facts Straight If You Want To Be Taken Seriously

AUTHOR: Keith - (U.S.A.)

I believe you have a legitimate problem and complaint with UOP, but you need to get your facts straight before complaining to them or anyone else.

Having worked in the Financial Aid world for over a dozen years I know for a fact that you do not receive paperwork from the FAFSA site showing any funds you may receive or have received. The FAFSA site provides you with a recap of the information you give them plus an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) figure, a dollar amount the Department of Education feels you should contribute toward your education for the year.

You should have received a notice from UOP regarding funds you were to receive and, in particular, a special notice of loan funds being disbursed to UOP on your behalf. In addition, you should have received a notice from the lender you chose regarding the loans being disbursed to UOP.

My best advice is to gather your documentation from all sources (FAFSA, lender, guarantor agency, servicing agency, UOP) and visit another local college or university's Financial Aid Office. Ask for their opinion or advice. You would be surprised how much we like to show off our knowledge, especially when someone has been wronged!

I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Just reply to this.
