The Sustaining Sin of the University of Phoenix

The University of Phoenix is part of the Apollo Group, Inc. Within the Apollo Group, Inc, is: University of Phoenix, Inc; Institute for Professional Development, College for Financial Planning, Western International University, Inc., and Apollo Development corporation. It is the largest for profit multi billion dollar education sham industry in the world. It is a degree mill, and those working for Phoenix are willingly and knowingly working for an instition to bring major fraud upon the United States. The indictment follows suit.

The Apollo Group, Inc is controlling member representing the United States with the World Trade Organization according to the Polaris Institute. Phoenix is in charge of the entire educational academe of the United States surpassing Harvard, Stanford, MIT in clout with the WTO. As a fact since they are not for profit, such as Phoenix, there is a question if Americas leading institutions can be represented in the World Trade Organization.

Politically, its head lobbist was appointed by the Bush Administration named Sally Stroup. Because of Stroup, the Apollo Group managed to acquire 1.2 billion dollars in Federally Backed financial aid last year through fraud.

Is Phoenix accredited? No. It cannot be accredited regardless of the perjury you hear clealy defined under Title 18 USC 1621 and 1622. This is because Phoenix provides 20 hours of instructional time and grants 3 semester credit hours. A semester hour is clearly defined as 15 hours of instruction so 3 semester credit hours would be 45 hours of instruction, and 4 semester credit hours would be 60 hours of instruction.

To get an idea of what I am stating; if one got 20 instuction hours and divided by the constant 15, they would only get 1.3 credit hours. Is 1.3 credit hours 3. Absolutely not! You have to be a fool to believe Phoenix is accredited.

To make matters worse, a BS degree at Phoenix approximates 120 semester credit hours. So Phoenix with 20 hours of instruction for 3 semester credit hours times 40 units would equal 800 instructional hours. To make a UofP student look really ridiculous, let's compare Phoenix to Community College and an Associates degree. An associates degree at Community College of 60 credit hours is 20 units at 45 hours or 900 hours. How can Phoenix grant a BS degree when its instructional hour mandate is 1800 hours only providing 800 hours of instruction unless its clear intent is to defraud the United States government.

So we have a BS degree at Phoenix is below the standard of an associates degree at Community College. It is a degree mill and cannot be accredited. So you frauds at Phoenix, you need a mandated trip to Americas Utopia called the Criminal Justice System.

Those that provide government backed student aid know that Phoenix is not accredited. They know that they are paying for 3 semester credit hours of 180 minutes and Phoenix is providing only 80. As a FASFA student you have a right not to pay any student loan dollars back to Phoenix. Write your student loan backer today; and may this web site start a Qui Tam against Phoenix.

This institution could collect royalties in the hundreds of millions of dollars in taking an action against Phoenix. Those who have student loans with Phoenix, give me an e-mail. We shall get together and raise hell. The worse that could happen is total relief from your student aid burden.

I have a case in Federal District Court now, ELP 02 CA 0237. One other note about Phoenix. Its student loan program was run by Arthur Andersen in 2002 in Phoenix. Jay Ozer ran Arthur Andersen during that time in Phoenix as well. Do you know him? What are some of his misdeeds: Lincoln Savings and Loan and being pardoned by the former Bush, the ENRON scam, the Baptist Federation of Arizona Scam; and now this the University of Phoenix scam perhaps.

At any rate, give me an e mail, so that you can help me personally shut down the University of Phoenix; and to force ED to return all monies lost to those who got Federal Backed FASFA loans. The government as well as Phoenix knows that this is the biggest scam ever in education history. Not to mention that FASFA dollars go into a clandestine effort to legalize drugs in America.

My mom went to UoP in the 90's, and I don't remember it being a cake-walk for her... So, considering my own circumstances, I thought maybe the UoP program would be helpful for someone in my situation (early 20's, husband, baby, work)... but now I'm concerned...

I have an enrollment counselor or, I guess that's her title... well, I've been trying to talk to her and find out how my app is progressing, whether or not my paperwork is going through as it should, but she doesn't return my calls. She did once, but gave me the BS excuse "Oh, didn't you get my voicemail?" No, of course I didn't-- you didn't call. Anyway, she said she'd call me back in 10 minutes with an answer to a fairly simple question, but hasn't yet (it's been like 3 weeks).

Needless to say, I'm having serious doubts now. I think I might as well wait it out until the next time I can apply to a UC/CSU. I'm pretty much a no-nonsense student. I have a d**n-near-perfect GPA and worked my a*s off for it. I was supposed to go to Berkeley before things got complicated at home.

I think I'm going to reassess the whole thing. I'm not going to waste my time on something that even SEEMS like it could be hazardous to my health!

Leeland and everyone else: Thank you:)

Phoenix Rip off

AUTHOR: Bartman - (United States of America)

UOP's regional accreditation may be valid, however, if you plan on transfering any of those credits anywhere else, then good luck. You're essentially stuck with credits that are only good at UOP. So any further education you may want to get would have to be through them as well unless you feel like starting from scratch all over again somewhere else. By the way, there is only so much government loans you can get for an undergrad or grad degree and with UOP costing so much (their graduate classes costing 2,070 dollars a class) you hit your ceiling rather fast so that by the time you realize that the operation is a rip off, you are indebted to the point where you might not be able to finish your degree somewhere else because they have moved you closer to your ceiling amount in loans and again, your credits are no good anywhere else, so you would have to start all over if you did want to go somewhere else.

Class Action Recruit

AUTHOR: Allen - (United States of America)

Hey Leland,

If you really have something going on - contact me through  I was stupid enough to spend $20k on an MBA back in the 90s and it has never paid for itself.  Nobody recognizes UoP as anything - period.  At least my MA from Webster University got me into the IT field.

These people ripped me off too.....

AUTHOR: Happy1withshatteredreamz - (U.S.A.)

I am in the process of filing a complaint with the state of Arizona due to the lies they told me. The told me I could get a law degree from criminal justice studies: which is a lie! They also lied about the amounts of my loans and now I am stuck with loans around 10 k that I can't even afford to make the monthly minimum payment. I am really angry with this school and what I have seen them do to me and other people I know.

University of Phoenix

AUTHOR: Sweetpea - (U.S.A.)

I am a current student of UoP, and this is not my first up at bat with higher education. There is a certain amount of time required for you to be online, there is also a certain amount of time required to do reading etc. I am working towards a BS in Criminal Justice Admin. My 5+ years in records at a PD and academy training gives me a leg up. There are demands you must comply with in order to make it in these classes. I put many more hours in than what is required. Maybe no one wants to hire him because his grades were not substantial enough or because he is litigious in nature. No employer wants to risk hiring a employee such as that. Some companies have small short tests they have potential employees take in order to determine mentally etc where this job candidate is at. Some of my former supervisors as well as a niece all teach at UoP. They are highly recognized in their fields and I personally know how much prior education that these persons have. My IQ was 147 at 12 years of age, so I am sure it has grown as well as I have. Not everyone recognizes a degree the same way. Maybe the author should have spent more time researching the credit hours and the school's reputation which has evolved highly since then. I cannot help recognize the fact that the author of the original complaint is interested in billions of dollars and think that this person is just trying to get a free ride and look for free money. If the school is not recognized by a potential employer could the author have not investigated this fact before hand. It just sounds to me like someone is looking for a whole lot of money and the education part matters less.

University of Phoenix and Oh Sweetie!

AUTHOR: Leeland - (U.S.A.)

The Hendow and Albertson case just addressed the issue you have.  It was filed prematurly while I was in court.  Hendow and Albertson were crooked counselors with the University of Phoenix.  However, the government has made a deal to accept University of Phoenix's 65 million dollar settlement.  However, as enrollment counselors Hendow and Albertson are thieves collecting liability insurance from their very own bank robbery.

In this mocker is Judge Garlan Burrell, the judge handling this case.  You remeber him from the "Unibomber" case.  What this means is that for 65 million dollars the University of Phoenix gets away with stealing billions of dollars.

This is based on 20 USC 1088, I am the only one who has addressed this United States law,  that requires every university in the Title IV student loan program to provide 15 hours of instruction for one semester credit hour.  On a three hour course this means without waiver that the University must provide 45 hours of instruction.  Phoenix only provides 20 hours in the under graduate school and 26 in the graduate school, ripping off the government by fraud of over 50% of the entitlements it asks for and even less in its internet school.  May be at most 5 hours of instruction for 3 semester credit hours.

Considering in 2009 alone, Phoenix took in 4 billion dollars.  As you can see not only did they rip off the government of 2 billion dollars easily, they ripped off the student as well.

Do the math, 20 hours of instruction at Phoenix for their in campus school for 3 semesster crdit hours.  On an average bachelors degree of 120 semester credit hours, Phoenix provides only 800 hours but yet charges the government for 1800.  Where did the thousand hours go. Obviously to thievery.  Keep in mind that a valid associates degree under the Title IV student loan program requires 60 hours of instruction, or 900 instructional hours.  I had to put this in to show that UOP is 100 instructional hours short of an associates degree.  Judge Briones has been aware of this this thievery, when he falsified the service in my case, refused to allow the government to intervene, and dismissed my case as a private right of action when it was ordered to proceed under the false claims act by Judge Martinez in July 2002.  See 02cv0237, and you shall see the original service being made about two years after my case was dismissed.  This is docket number 137 if you have pacer.  The falsified service was 17 after Phoenix was in default.

The government knows this as well as the corrupted US Attorney's office.  But think do we really have a government of the people.  No, our government has allowed the crooked banks, who received billions in bail outs knowing that Phoenix cannot be accredited by the Academic year, no matter how manipulated from any accredating agency.  So those in ED can get kick backs and that the student loan holder gets the screws.

The California Court gives me service.  I know the settlement is 65 million dollars.  But it should be in the billions; and all those at Phoenix who have received loans should not have to pay one d**n penny back to such a crooked school.  The laws says that if the school is not accredited, and it cannot be by operation of law, that no UOP loan holder has to pay back a school that falsely represents itself.  Also keep in mind that the University of Phoenix is a SM, a service mark and the word university cannot be used indepently outside in making representation that it is a university.

By law I am entitled to billions.  My case is a first of its type and may be found in 20 USC 1088 annotated, 31 Usc 3729 annotated and 31 USC 3130 annotated.  However, you see that if there is criminal activity, when it is proven, that Judge Briones allowed Phoenix to rip off the government in the billions and did not order the United States attorney general to prosecute.  Oh well, Phoenix is in John Mc Cain country, and some of Phoenix's staff has a member or two that were from the Keating five.  Other than river front property in Arizona it is sad that the my beloved government has gone askew and fails the people in this manner.

I only bear witness.  Thanks for your article.   I hope others who are more meet after all these years will eventually, but responsibily prosecute Phoenix and find some of people criminally responsible.

I am currently enrolled in a masters program at University of Phoenix; I can tell you that you're completely wrong. First off, check your facts, and go to (((Redacted))) University of Phoenix is a REGIONALLY ACCREDITED college. This means it has the SAME accreditation as your state (public) universities and community colleges. Also, according to the requirements of federal financial aid, undergraduate program's semesters must consist of at least 12 credit hours to be considered a full time student. You can complete an associate's degree in less than two years at University of Phoenix, where can you do that at a community college? You may have had a bad experience, but they do provide a valuable service to people. 400,000 alumni, and students like myself, enjoy the quality and convenience of our classes. I won't even address the FAFSA funding going into legalizing drugs, because you are clearly insane.
There is no way for you to "personally shut down" the University of Phoenix. It's a multi-billion dollar private university, but good luck with that!

How to contact you

AUTHOR: Psychgirl - (U.S.A.)

I truely hope that you will be notified of my message here since I cannot find contact information for you.

I would be very interested to know how the case in court went.

I attended for 4 weeks until I discovered this site (Thank you everyone) and withdrew. I am unable to work and will obviously not be able to pay the outrageous cost of $998 for those 2 classes. I am now enrolled at my community college where I'm going to get an incredibly better quality education for about a third the price. Not to mention that it turned out that the Psychology program was not approved by the APA, a requirement for licensure in my state, and could NOT have gotten me where I wanted to go despite the enrollment counselors assuring.

I would like to know where to get more information on your statement that FAFSA students have a "right" to not pay UOP based in their misrepresentation. Please contact me at

Thank you sincerely,
