i moved into the area i live about 3 years or so ago.i am a retired firearms dealer and gunsmith, so after i moved into this area, i let UPS know right away that i have been known to receive various firearms via UPS, and that every package delivered is to require an adult signature..

starting right after i moved into the area i live in, i started almost instantly that the majority of the items i had delivered by UPS were either lost, damaged, opened and items missing, destroyed, etc. i have contacted them almost constantly in the past, and nothing whatsoever has ever been done. it got to the point that i even stopped using UPS for anything, but some of my suppliers and wholesellers use UPS exclusively, so it puts me in a spot.

ive contacted "jeff" at my local hub in redding california, who always puts forth the sympathetic "were really sorry" but my requests for investigations into the matters always went ignored. recently, i had listed an item for sale or trade, and another dealer contacted me and wanted to do some swapping , so i indicated to him what i wanted to trade and we struck a deal. the trade item ( which was a complete upper receiver ready to install for an AR-15 rifle) was shipped out via UPS ,with a signature also requested by the shipping party, but i didnt know when it was supposed to arrive.

recently, i was out with clients and UPS came to my home and delivered 2 packages ( one i was expecting that day, the other was the AR upper assembly which i wasnt expecting) later in the evening when i got home, i went on line and checked the tracking number on the item i was expecting, and it said it had been delivered and left at the 'front door". i went out and checked all around the house, and couldnt find it. i thought to myself i should get the tracking number for the other item. i called the shipper and got it, checked it and that tracking number also said the item was left at the front door. both were supposed to be signed for, neither was. the driver just took it upon himself to leave the items even though a signature was required with no signature was obtained on either one.

i contacted UPS and reported the situation to them, and also the shipper. the following monday ( this all happened on a friday evening) morning early, i contacted UPS again, and they said they would have the driver follow up on it. wlater that day, the driver came to my door and told me he was there to pick up two packages that were misdelivered. i explained to him that there were no packages misdelivered, and that he had left two packages on my front porch that required signatures that he neglected to collect, and they were apparently stolen. the driver ( his name is kevin) went absolutely ballictic, started screaming ( in front of witnesses) and threatening me, and said he was going to call the FBI. i advised him to please do so, and he left.

i contacted his supervisor (jeff at 530-365-7850) and explained the whole thing to him, and i got the old "well, you have to forgive him, he is under alot of stress" treatment.i again asked jeff with UPS to please have there security look into the stolen packages and aqlso to please have them look into the other problems. he told me that he had ment to do it before, but it always got pushed to the back burner ( his words). i told him if that was the case, i wanted the number to UPS security or whomever does there investigations so i could get the ball rolling myself. he told me he would call me back, and didnt.

i tried to call him back several times a day over the last 10 days and i finally got him today ( the receptionist amy told me he was avoiding my calls) after i threatened to call UPS corporate over the situation. even then, he wouldnt give me any info on who to contact about the problems. then today, ups comes up with a package that had been reshipped (unknown by me) by the original shipper to replace the product that had been stolen (by the driver i think, due to the fact that even though its already on file to get a signature on all packages, and the fact that the shipper specifically requested a signature, and the driver ignored both requests and just left the items). but the package that had been sent to replace the one that was stolen looked like it had been run over by a truck, so i didnt take possession of it.

i have lost countless dollars and hours dealing with all of this, and get absolutely no satisfaction whatsoever from UPS. i even went as far as to contact the head of security for UPS for california directly and all i got was a voicemail ( of course) and no call back. id appreciate any help[ i can get in this matter.

Is this a case for ATF?

AUTHOR: Friendly Help - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 11, 2008

I think ATF gets interested in misplaced firearms.

Do any of your delivery drivers wear beards and turbans?

Personally, I would have kept quiet about being a gun dealer, and I would have asked everyone shipping to me to use a non-descript company or sender name.
