I decided to use Uptown Movers after getting quotes from several moving companies and reading reviews on Thumbtack. I simply wanted a moving company that could help me move my big furniture from my 2 story house. This decision was one of the worst mistakes I've made.

1. Initially I was told by Tyler Edwards that I would need 3 guys  for the job and that they would be at my house between 8 & 9 AM. I called to cancel the service due to not getting my keys to my new house that early, but Tyler assured me he could get the movers to my house between 7 & 8 AM, they could load up and be at my new house by the time I got my keys at 10 AM.

2. The movers did not show up befor I left to get my keys. They called me for the 1st time at 9:10 AM. The man asked me if my place was near Hwy 30, which is approximately 50 miles away from my home. After telling him it wasn't even close, he asked me for directions because his GPS told him my house was over there. I gave him the closest highway to my house, but he still didn't know where to go. He saI'd he would find it. Twenty minutes later he called me back and asked if I lived near Rockwall, which is approximately 52 miles from my house. Once again, I tried to steer him in the right direction. After all was said and done, he called me 12 times trying to find my house. At one point he even got frustrated with me because I gave him the wrong street name even though I told him I was unsure of all the street names. I didn't realize that was my responsibility.

3. The movers finally showed up at 12:10...4 hours after I was told they would be there. Once the men got out of the truck, one of them asked me where my husband was, then proceeded to tell me I needed a husband to help me with giving directions!!

4. When going over the paperwork, the guy said they would just say they were starting at 12:00, even though it was about 12:15 or so. Remember, they charge by the hour. He went over the hourly rate, the cost for gas and the supplies cost. I told him I did not want to use the supplies (which Tyler told me was an option), to which they replied, "oh no, you need it. Don't worry, we're gonna treat you real good."

5. The men walked the house to see what they needed to load. As I said earlier, I was told I would need 3 men. However, there ended up being 1 foreman and 2 actual movers. Unfortunately, Jerry was the only reliable mover. Jerry busted his tail moving as much as he could. The other "mover" continuously yelled at Jerry to do more while he walked around or got on his phone. The foreman spent the majority of the time in the back of the truck.

6. I had friends come and help me load boxes and the smaller furniture into a trailer I had. This trailer was completely loaded, driven to the new location (approximately 40 minutes away) and completely unloaded the trailer well before these 3 movers had even 1/2 of the furniture loaded.

7. The foreman came into the house a few times to tell me about his girl that he cooked and cleaned for. He also informed me when he needed to call her to let her know he might be a little late because he likes to keep her happy. He also told me about him helping his sister in Atlanta move because he didn't want her to get ripped off and all the things she bought him and the money she gave him for helping her. I found this very inappropriate and unprofessional.

8. The movers damaged walls at both the old house and the new house as well.

9. They finally completed the job at 5:00 PM. So the whole process from when they were supposed to arrive until they were finished took 10 hours. I anticipated 3 hours at the very most, which went along with what Tyler initially told me. Unfortunately I payed almost double what I had anticipated.

10. Tyler told me up front they preferred cash. So, I got as much cash as I thought would be more than enough. After this nightmare of a service, I was wrong, so I had to pat the remainder with my debit card. The movers had to call Tyler or his girlfriend (which the movers informed me she was the real boss, the owner & Tyler was just the boyfriend). After several attempts, one of them finally got a hold of Tyler. I got on the phone, gave him my card info, then was asked if I wanted to tip them. I felt very uncomfortable because i did not feel a tip was appropriate, but I had 2 of the 3 men staring at me as well as Tyler, on the phone, telling me he thought I really needed to tip them, at lease 15%, but 20 % is what he suggested. This was way more than I had already budgeted for, not to mention the awful experience. Finally, I agreed to 10% simply to get the men out of my house. I felt very intimidated. I hung up with Tyler, handed the man his phone back, to which he replied, that's it? He stodo there for several seconds expecting something, but I thanked them for their service and walked them to the door.

11. I was so frustrated at all of this I decided to contact Tyler. I explained my dissatisfaction with the whole experience, told him I felt pressure to tip them when they did not deserve a tip and told him of my disappointment with everything (and explained in detail what I was dissatisfied with). He told me he got these kind of calls a lot, that the two men (who did the very least by far) had many, many years of experience and knew what they were doing. I told him I expressed that I did not want the materials, but the man insisted. Tyler then explained to me that he tells his guys that most women will say they don't want the materials, but just use them anyway because the women usually don't know what they are talking about, then when things get damaged, they come back and complain. I found this very sexist, unprofessional and inappropriate! He then told me he didn'to have time to listen to this anymore because he had a job to do.

i am sick to my stomach that these people have any good ratings. This was by far the worst experience I've had and cost me a lot of money.
