My wife and I flew Philly to London Gatwick in early June, then back in early July. There were the usual delays in Philly on departure and return - weather related [avoid Philly in the summer!] and so unavoidable.
What was unexcusable was the surly, agressive crew of attendants in coach class. One in particular, a large woman who might be a transexual, delighted in racing the food/beverage cart up and down the aisle, saying "watch your arm" only after clipping someone with the cart. Another dark haired woman and blond man seemed to be having a soap opera experience - she glaring at him, he taunting her.
The return flight was especially dreadful - lots of middle school aged kids on board from an exchange program. The kids were very well behaved, but made the mistake of asking for service occasionally - a drink of water, help with the audio/visual system. Bad idea! These requests led to glares, modest chewing out, exasperation, etc.
I can understand this at one level as a group of folks alienated by US Air financial difficulties, including pay cuts, work speed up, etc. But hey - it's not the passengers who are causing these problems. So heads up folks, we and many of our friends won't be flying US Air again. We can get to Europe on Continental through Newark, avoiding the Philly weather hassles and, especially, US Air's very unhappy employees

Good experience with USAirways

We flew to Cancun in February with US. Got cheerful flight attendants and gate personnel. Used FF miles to upgrade to First Class - they couldn't confirm a return leg in F from CUN to Charlotte.
A counter attendant at Cancun worked for over 15 minutes to get us upgraded to First. He didn't have to do that - but went the 'extra mile'. Sorry you had a bad experience - we are totally pleased with our experience. I think your trip was an exception.
