I opened a checking account on-line on April 29,2012, I was required make a deposit of $25.00 to keep the account open. I received a call from US Bank on May 1, asking when i would make the deposit, i explained i would do it before the end of the weekend.

I made my deposit of $25,00 on cash on May 5, 2012 in a local branch. Went home and tried to access my account on line. Turns out I need a pin number to do that. Called the 800 number. Was told nothing has been sent out on the account and would not be till i sign a signature card. So I thought about this for a little bit. Im about ready to have a direct deposit in the amount over two thousand dollars put in this account and i wont have access to any of the funds. So I called customer service again and asked if my funds where available for withdraw (25.00). I was told yes. So I went to the bank (Different branch) and requested to close the account. I was told by the teller the funds here not available since it is the weekend, I explained it was cash deposited so there should be no hold. Their agreement even stated cash deposited is available the same day for withdrawal. Still they are not able to close or withdraw any funds. Called customer service and required to know why i could not access my funds got the run around from them. I then explained i would be contacting the Department of Treasury and filing criminal charges against US Bank for fraud. Still no funds ar accessable so i will contact the Dept of Treasury and seek legal action against this company

Did you sign the signature card?

AUTHOR: SlotMachine - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, June 29, 2012

Did you ever sign a signature card? Your report indicates that you did not. The account cannot be activated until you sign a signature card. This is true with any bank. The signature card is required for the account to be "real" and is your contract with the bank. Just out of curiosity - why did you open the account online and not in an actual branch? If you find a lawyer willing to pursue a case over $25, let us know.

Still complaining about this in 2012?

It's part of the Patriot Act, jackwagon. Thank Bush for that.

Didn't read the paperwork that YOU SIGNED when you opened the account, did you? It clearly explained their hold policy for new accounts. It's called Reg. D, doofus... look it up.

IrishDog, Feel free to 'Google' this- WHO CONTROLS THE UNITED STATES ECONOMY BY MAJORITY 2010, and watch that video......

on the web.

I believe that the United States Treasury Secretary can be seen at around 37 seconds into that 4 minute video. You might want to send him a copy of your Ripoff Report so he knows what happened to you, right? It might be happening to other people too, correct?

Good luck.

Deposits after Friday normally held over the weekend

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

The 2nd person you talked to was correct. Deposits made after 5 PM (sometimes 2 PM) are not processed until Monday morning (or sometime Monday) that is the case for just about every financial institution I have ever dealt with including credit unions.

Just a couple of questions....

AUTHOR: Kevin A - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, May 06, 2012

I'm curious about a couple of things. You seem to have set this situation in motion and I was wondering, 1. Why would you go to a different branch than the one you deposited the money in to make the withdrawal? 2. Why did you not just go to the same branch in which you deposited and sign the signature card requested and required of you to allow the bank to let you perform all transactions on the account? Seems like that would have been simple enough and might have prevented this situation from escalating any further.

Cash is usually available for immediate withdrawal, but the bank must be able to verify that the person making the withdrawal is authorized to do so (they will let anyone deposit to any account, before someone says, "They let him put money IN but they won't let him take money OUT??" Yes) and/or close the account.

It is very unusual for someone to deposit money in one branch and try to withdraw it the same day from a different branch. This usually signifies a fraudulent transaction attempt, and most banks will want to do further research before completing the transaction. They may not have been able to confirm whether the deposit was cash or check at the second branch (telling them you deposited cash is not proof that you did) and therefore could not give you cash back. Also, the lack of signature card may have prevented them from doing so as well.

What exactly was "the run around" that customer service gave you? Was it similar to what I said above? Just curious
