My husband and I opened an account with US Bank two years ago and they still will NOT post anymore than $100 in available funds until the next business day...sometimes later. If I deposit a check before 5:00 PM on Friday then the full amount will be credited to the account on Saturday. However, if the check is deposited after 5:00 PM pn Friday, or if it is deposited on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, it will not be credited to our account until Tuesday. There was even a time when I deposited cash to a teller, not the ATM, and they still will not post more than $100 to available funds until the next business day.
When we have done our online banking, the available balance says one thing, but then we get charged $37.50 in OD fees and they said, "well thats not really the available balance."
Their customer service is the worst; I have even had a woman yell at me and not not let me speak to a manager.
I DO NOT reccommend this bank to ANYONE at ANYTIME!
Christina

Sandymom said, "I am now with Banner Bank and EVERY time I deposit cash or a check, my funds are available immediately. Even on Fri. at 5:45 pm or Sat. at 11:45 a.m. (the branch closes at noon). Not a portion, ALL."
Well, isn't that special?
Assuming for a minute that this is even close to being true, I said that "I've never SEEN a bank that clears non-cash deposits the same day." (Cash deposits clear immediately at USB) I didn't say that no bank would ever do this. So, to address your comment, if these are small checks that you're talking about, a bank may take the risk of clearing the check the same day provided you have enough in your account to cover it in case it's bad. However, for sizeable checks, and I believe the limit is $5000 now, legally, the bank MUST put a hold on it. Again, I could have the dollar amount wrong, but it's somewhere in that neighborhood.
In my opinion, I'd rather have the bank put a one business day hold on a check so they can verify that it's good rather than have them force remove that money later on if the check is bad. Besides, if you can't wait ONE business day (usually) for a check to clear, you really need to learn to manage your finances better.

Is it just me, or is every ROR about US Bank's overdraft policy riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes? I think that proves a very good point: people that overdraft their accounts aren't educated enough to maintain them. They obviously don't pocess the mathmatical comprehension or reading skills to avoid overdrafting. I understand that everyone can't be a genius, but I'd hope they'd be smart enough to know their own intellectual limitations.

Really "No Bank?"

I had a US bank account about 10 years ago and after playing the "how many fees are they going to charge me this month game" I closed my account. I am now with Banner Bank and EVERY time I deposit cash or a check, my funds are available immediatly. Even on Fri. at 5:45 pm or Sat. at 11:45 a.m. (the branch closes at noon). Not a portion, ALL.

It's not you, it's US.

(I have separated some of the wording for ease of response)
"My husband and I opened an account with US Bank two years ago and they still will NOT post anymore than $100 in available funds until the next business day...sometimes later. If I deposit a check before 5:00 PM on Friday then the full amount will be credited to the account on Saturday. However, if the check is deposited after 5:00 PM pn Friday, or if it is deposited on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, it will not be credited to our account until Tuesday."
This is very accurate! It appears that you do understand our policy for all customers no matter how long you have been with the bank, just because your past deposits have came through without issues does not mean your next one will, this procedure helps us negate risk which ultimately provides a stronger and safer bank for customers. It is truly not you or your account that is causing this.
"There was even a time when I deposited cash to a teller, not the ATM, and they still will not post more than $100 to available funds until the next business day."
That is a problem, and I can tell by the phrasing of this (with the apparent shock) that this normally is not the case, if this happened this is clearly a bank error, we may not be able to correct it right away, but after the deposit did clear if you contact 24 Hour Banking we would be able to verify this is a promptly take care of any issues that arose from this such as overdraft or returned items. I'm very sorry that this happened, we strive to have the best service, but mistakes do happen, and we hope you judge us not by our mistakes but how we respond.
"When we have done our online banking, the available balance says one thing, but then we get charged $37.50 in OD fees and they said, 'well thats not really the available balance.'"
That may be true, for example if an pending Visa authorization is for the wrong amount it is possible that your available balance may be higher then it should be, you may want to consider using a ledger or a computer program like Quicken to help track items that have not cleared.
"Their customer service is the worst; I have even had a woman yell at me and not not let me speak to a manager.
I DO NOT reccommend this bank to ANYONE at ANYTIME!"
I do apologise if you felt that our banker was rude or had yelled at you, we strive to perfect the level of customer service the bank provides by having at least one training session per month to evaluate each banker each month, we do this because we do care about the service we provide. We also do realize that people are emotional and in some stressful situations where a banker may have been able to help you or felt that they were being accused of something they may have lashed out because they didn't know what else to do, but that is no excuse, and I do apologise again even under stress we do attempt to train our bankers to respond kindly and professionally.
Now in response to not letting you speak to a Manager it is because our bankers are able to all the manager can do when servicing a customer, we do this to provide the best service possible, a mangers primary duty is to manage the bankers on the floor, he or she can not actually provide additional services that the primary banker could not. We also would like you to be aware that because of this we have a limited number a managers and there is not always one available at any given time, though you can always request a callback and you will be called within 24 hours from the request.

".....My husband and I opened an account with US Bank two years ago and they still will NOT post anymore than $100 in available funds until the next business day..."
Christina, this policy is for everyone, not just you. I've been at USB for about eight years and this has been the policy since day one. I've never seen a bank that clears deposits the very same day. (unless it's cash)

Normal?

This is normal at every bank?
Name one bank that will post check deposits immediately. My bank will post anything I deposit before 3pm that same day and after 3pm the next buisness day.
The online register shows you what your balance will be once funds are released. You shoudl NEVER go by the online register to check your balance. The only accurate balance is a check book where you record your purchases. The bank obviously told you their deposit rules, just follow them and you will never overdraft your account.
