This company puts up an ad on pennysaver and it states; "US Post Office Now Hiring; Starting pay is $20/hr" and it provide the consumer with a phone number where once you call they immediately notify you that the study quide is $99 which will cost $126 for standard shipping or $144 for expedited shipping. They tell the consumer you can receive a refund only if you didnt pass the test, or can not locate an open position within a year or you were not offered a job on the first interview.

However, the problem here is that the Post Office offers this study guide FREE OF CHARGE and even states they do not charge any fees for employment information!!!! I read this a little to late as I paid $144 for the book. EVERYONE PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY...THIS IS A MAJOR SCAM.

This scam is very desceptive, as they use the USPS symbol in the newspaper, making you think your are going directly through the USPS, but they have no affiliation with them.

I passed the test with an 88%, the book helps just slightly for the cost of $130. I went through the hiring practices but was declined a job, which I wrote a complaint about on this sight. The USPS standards for hiring are an absolute joke. I asked the interviewer at the USPS that I needed a note showing that I was declined a job so I can get back my $100 ($30 is lost for the S&H which is fine). So I called the number from the book because you need to get a reference number so you can be reimbursed. But I explained to them that I don't have a note to send them saying I was declined a job. The lady on the phone told me that USPS should have sent me a letter saying I wasn't to be hired. It's been two weeks now and no letter. I think this is all a lie and scam. They have no intention on reimbursing anybody. I don't think they have anything to do with the USPS, even though they make it appear that way. I'm going to call them a few more times and just call them out saying they are fraud and see what happens.

Don't Spend Money with Any Company for the USPS Exam

AUTHOR: Jmb1122 - (U.S.A.)

The US Postal Service is required by the Veteran's Re-employment Act to offer the Postal Exam to honorably discharged veterans that apply within six months of discharge, within six months of the application.

This is the reason that the vast majority of Postal Employees are veterans.

After veterans take the test they are placed on a list, based on their score on the exam, and hired as needed starting with the highest score and moving downward. Disabled veterans get 10 extra points on their exam score (if they got a 95% their recorded score is 105%) and veterans that served during designated periods get 5 additional points.

IF the Postal Service can't fill its hiring needs through the veterans that have taken the test and are already on the hiring list - they will offer the test to the public. Notices that the test is available to the public are placed in local newspapers and, in larger cities, storefront locations are sometimes rented because there can be as many as 10,000 applicants. The number of times within a ten year period that the Postal Exam is open to the public (non-vets) very much depends on the part of the country you're talking about. In places where a Postal Salary is very good compared to the local pay scale, the test may be offered once every 3-5 years, if that often.

If you actually have a chance to take the exam (IT DOESN"T COST ANYTHING AND ONLY THE USPS CAN GIVE YOU THE OPPORTUNITY - NO OTHER COMPANY CAN OFFER YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE EXAM) it is strongly recommended that you go to a local bookstore or the internet and buy an exam guide (shouldn't cost more than $20-30 dollars). The exam guide will have the specific battery of the exam on it, so make sure it matches whichever test they're giving you.

The reason I recommend that you buy the exam guide is that you need to score as high as possible to even have a chance, especially when you're competing against as many as 10,000 other people. The test is not a "normal" test in that the items on the test are skill based and you have to practice or you're going to get a very low score.

So, in summary:

1. Never pay any company or individual that claims to have the ability to get you a job with the Postal Service - it just doesn't work that way.

2. The only way to take the test is through the USPS

3. If you actually apply to take the test through the USPS, get the appropriate exam guide (at a bookstore - there is nothing special about it and there is no reason to go through a classified ad) and plan on spending 10-20 hours studying it if you want to have any chance at all of getting hired.

4. If you're a recently discharged veteran go to your local post office and apply to take the exam even if you don't particularly want to work for the Postal Service. Take the test anyway because you never know and it's actually a good job with decent pay and great benefits.
