Here is my letter to USAA It says it all.

Dear USAA, 6-15-2009

I am sad to say that I will be ending my 60+ year relationship with USAA. My parents used usaa for 40+ years as well as my wife's parents. My wife and I felt we should continue with USAA to protect our assets as well.

Our USAA products ( my USAA number is ******* )

One car lone
Our mortgage is with USAA
Our mortgage insurance is with USAA
Our saving and checking is with USAA
Our car insurance is with USAA x 2 cars

This all started two years ago when we had a fire in our chimney. We had no idea! It wasn't until last winter when we had a fire in our file place and we could smell smoke throughout the house. We contacted a chimney repair company to come out and look at the problem. That's when we found out that we had had a fire in our chimney and damage had been done to the inside walls, brick and liner. We decided to contact USAA and make a claim. USAA come out and surveyed the damage and paid the claim. Then came the hailstorm. Hail the size of baseballs, damaged both cars, patio cover, windows, A/C unit and totaled the roof. So once again we had no choice but to contact USAA and file a claim. USAA sent an adjuster out and he surveyed the damage and decided what it would cost to repair the damages. Both cars were totaled by USAA. The roof was a total lose, ect

USAA decided on how much it would pay on the claim and paid the money. As a result USAA has decided to change my status to a high risk customer, raise my mortgage insurance from $ 1436/yr in 2007 up to $ 3,715.00/ry in 2009 and I'm sure my car insurance will go up as well. What is the use of paying an insurance company every month for years only to have them raise your premiums the first time you file????

On Wednesday June 10th 2009 I contacted Robin Premock with USAA and explained to her how angry I was about the rate increase and that I wanted them reduced. She listened, took down my information, and told me she would research the situation, talk to the necessary people and call me back on Monday. I said no I don't want to wait that long. She then promised to have someone call me back on Thursday. Thursday no call, Friday no-call and on Monday at 1pm central time - no call so I called her back. She told me she spoke with her supervisor Melody Grainger and there was nothing they could do for me. So I explained to her that my wife and I will now spend the next several weeks moving our car insurance, mortgage insurance and banking to another company and if I can I'm going to move the mortgage as well.

To a big company like USAA I'm sure I'm small potatoes but that's all I have so I guess I going to pick up my potatoes and go somewhere else!

Sincerely Yours

Bill

No matter what you do with your insurance if any type of Natural Disater happens in the area of the insured rates in that area all together will go up. I hadnt filed a claim but my insurance went up because of the Hurricane Activity in Texas. That is nothing personal.

Standard practice

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

This tends to be standard industry practice. Almost every insurance company will raise your home owner's insurance rates after the first claim. A good percentage of them will just drop a customer after the first claim.

Odds are the next company will do the same thing to you.

Not The Only One

Had a customer tell me she is leaving usaa after 50+ years. She has a summer house on the coast, with no claims, that the insurance went from $800 last year to $1,600 this year. She's going to the "other" guys who quoted her $1,000. usaa doubled her rates, with no claims.
