USBI, Norristown OR CG Phone Cramming Pennsylvania

Last month my phone bill Century Tel had a page from an outfit called USBI charging us for $17.22. I got through on their 800 number (888-241-8724). After a brief conversation where I categorically left no doubt that we had not any service of any kind from them (we have unlimited long distance on our CT plan), he agreed to cancel the service. I was unable to get him to commit to sending a credit back through to CT, but all he would say is that he would cancel "effective today".

It wasn't much of a surprise when my CT bill came and not only was there no credit. but there was an additional month charged. I again called CT who was apologetic, but told me that tariffs required them to pass along third party bills. I Googled USBI and came up with the billview URL. I also called the above 800 number, only to be booted off their voice jail system; three times over two different days. Their Site has no phone numbers and no physical address. Friday I filled out an online complaint on their form.

Today, the reply: Thank you for your inquiry. USBI is in the business of aggregating records from a number of long distance providers and transmitting those records to
the Local Exchange Carriers. USBI is not a long distance carrier and does not provide telecommunication services.

The company for which the charges were submitted is NORRISTOWN TELEPHONE.
They handle their own customer service. Please contact them at their direct toll-free number, 1-800-245-6116. They will be able to assist you further with your concern.

After a bit of studying on this site (Ripoffreport.com) it seems they have quite a history and several moveable DBAs. A Norristown Telephone Company from Blue Bell, PA has filed tariffs with both Idaho and Wyoming. From the email I received from USBI, one could assume they also have an Oregon dba.

I intend to contact our AG's office in the morning to proceed with a fraudulent billing complaint. I'd like to thank everyone who has posted here about these folks.
