Usenet.nl advertised a link to download a free IT paper which the link did not work on the original site.

During registration, it is clearly indicated they indicate that you must cancel with 3 days for the 7-day free account otherwise you will be automatically added to the annual account.

Then came the scam :

-------------------------

1) Their service did not work as advertised as they do not provide support for Linux OS.

2) The information on their website "Account" >>  " Cancel Contract"  has instructions that informed you that cancelling will require you calling a 1877-xxx-xxxx  or ++44 XXX XXX XXXX within 10am - 8pm (CET) Mon- Friday  and 10 am to 6pm (CET) o n Saturday.

3) Called the number repeatedly but as everyone here indicated it is a loop indicating they have high call volume and the call terminates from them. I actually asked friends in the UK to try the number with no success.

4) On my intuition, I used the contact form asking for assistance to cancel my account. But I got no response.

5) Perplexed I checked online to find out it anyone else had similar issues but was surprised that all websites outside from usenet.nl all claimed they are a fraudulent site.

6) Called Paypal and was advised to cancel the subscription, I was informed I was not the only one who had called regarding the site before indicating problems cancelling a free account.

7) Tried searching for several days on how to cancel the account, then received an email stating they could not take funds from my PayPal and I should re-enter my information and my account was suspended until I made payment. The problem was the email was a noreply@usnet.nl  bounced my emails when sent to it.

8) Finally, a german company sent me and email and letter in the mail. I called them and was able to talk to someone. Who informed me I must cancel using an email as indicated in their terms and conditions. Which is on item 8 out of 9 in a small part.

9) I sent the email using the reference number no dice. I also provided screenshots and a recorded call I placed when I tried cancelling earlier asking her to indicate my intention to cancel the account via email.

10) Noticed they put inform about the email address info@usenet.nl on all websites I indicated to them I had checked a few days after, people still calling the a scam though.

10) Got a response 2 months later that they refused to cancel the account with the excuse that they did not receive any written information from me asking them to cancel.

11) They still want to bill me for services not rendered, they have had this issue with people now going over 5 years, you will think any honest company will add the information on cancelling via email on the same page     as cancelling your contract or clear instruction and format to use the contact form to cancel. Instead they hide the information where you least expect.

12) PS when logged in there is no link to the terms and conditions, It is only accessible on their page if you do not log in, which was my experience.

13) I plan on suing them and the german company as they represent them at this point for harassment and extortion.

Beware there is no customer service and the intention is to prey on unsuspecting users as the company is registered in the islands with the hope you can not directly sue and contact emails are also hidden.

Take screenshots and use the email info@usenet.nl  state clearly you want to cancel with your account number and name. Then hope you get a response saying you are cancelled.

Their Contract is Meaningless

AUTHOR: mikeypants1105 - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 16, 2017

They have no chance of legally ever recovering the money. In order to recover the money being that they're in Germany they would have to find a law firm in the state where you live, and bring the lawsuit in your  local county courthouse. The problem is their contract is meaningless legally because it doesn’t follow certain guidelines that are required for internet contracts in the state of where you live being that their offer was accepted in your state, your state has jurisdiction over the validly of their contract. Second USENET.nl is not registered in in your state to do business. They would need to meet BOTH of those requirements first before they could file in this situation, not to mention that there could be a list of other reasons they wouldn't be able to sue.
