I sent out an ipad and a Sony mp3 player internationally. The package was opened and content is missing when arrived. My friend (recipient) refused the package.

I thought I was fortunate to have the package insured. I filed claim as soon as possible. It took 60 days for USPS to response with a denial. They say I shipped a prohibited item. When did ipad and mp3 player become prohibited item?

The appealing process takes another 7+7 days. First 7 days they send you a letter stating why your case is denied. When they receive your appeal they spend another 7 days denying your appeal.

You have to do it again to Washington D.C. to do final appeal. That's another 7 days at least.

It should be their priority to put out customer's angry and grievance. But since they are government, they don't care.

Oh, by the way, I read from internet that you can't sue USPS in small amount claim court since USPS is a federal agency. You have to sue them in the Federal Court and it is way much headache and harassment to deal with. Guess that's how they lie on.

i sent fashion jewelry to canada per ems, which comes with $100 insurance (so they say). item arrived damaged because opened by canadian customes and not repacked properly. i filed an insurance claim with usps, an eternity later i get a reply from them stating refund denied because i mailed a prohibited item. so i pulled up the list with prohibited items to canada online (nowhere is fashion jewelry listed), i print it out, and attach it to my letter of appeal....the thieves never got back with me!

if you sent the item internationally, you would have had to fill out a customs form. On the customs form you have to provide the information and name of the item(s) you are shipping. SO this would mean the USPS would have KNOWN before hand what you were sending and the address/country it was being shipped to.

So if your item was prohibited, then why did they allow you to send it at all? And why did they allow you to get insurance on the prohibited item?

I have never seen guidelines from usps stating that certain items that are insured would not be able to be filed for a claim, if thats the case then why would anyone waste the expense of getting insurance?

USPS has made more than 1 mistake with me. I am glad that you put this information out there for all of us to be aware.
