In September of 1995, I went to Valencia Nissan because I had seen an ad in the paper advertising $6,000 off MSRP on all Pathfinders.

I was 30 years old and a new mother of twins. I had a Camero and needed something bigger. (Approximately 2:00pm on a Sunday afternoon) The nightmare begins...As I looked around the lot, I was approached by a saleswoman. After a brief discussion she promptly took my keys to get the Camero appraised as we went on a test drive.

Upon returning to the dealership we went into her office to discuss the purchase of the Pathfinder. She gave me some figures on the purchase and also gave me the option of leasing the vehicle, thus showing me that leasing the vehicle is ignificantly less than buying it.

I told her that I did not want to lease and that $600 plus a year was too much for me, I could not afford that. I asked for the keys to my Camero because I did not want to waste anymore of her time.

She left the office as I waited for my keys. When she came back, she brought the keys with her along with her manager. The manager questioned me as to the reason that I did not want to lease.

I told him that I was not comfortable with leasing, I had never leased before and that I didn't know anything about it. He then proceeded to paint a pretty picture and also compared leasing to buying (price wise). I still did not want to lease. He asked what they could do to get me to lease. I told them "Nothing, because I don't want to lease, just give me my keys." The brow-beating continued for a couple of hours longer, until I finally gave in.

This was my financial situation at the time: I was a full-time
student with a part-time job. I was collecting welfare while
attending college to suppliment my income from the part-time job, but I had really good credit (at the time). The finance manager even made reference to the welfare that I was collecting by stating that I could make the lease payment with that money.
I got home that night at 9:45pm.

I knew I was in over my head, and Valencia Nissan did, too. I went back the next day to speak with the General Manager. I was crying because I knew that this was not right.

The manager told me that I could not return the car because there was no cooling off period, but I owed them another $500 because I had given them the wrong pay-off on the Camero. So he managed to take another $500.

As a result, I was unable to pay my credit card bills, so I had to quit school to work full-time but by this time my bills were all past due.

Needless to say, I now have bad credit.
I will NEVER go back to Valencia Nissan, nor will I let anyone else go there. I have been quite active in telling EVERYONE I know of my 8 hour brow-beating experience at Valencia Nissan.

Please don't let this happen to you.
