Ok, I have a story about applying to work at Vanguard out here in Scottsdale AZ. Back on May 16, 2008, Vanguard held what is called a "Blitz". A Blitz is basically 3 interviews back to back to back. I first approached them earlier in the week at a job fair that was held at Cardinals Stadium in Glendale AZ. After supplying my resume to them and talking a little finance industry lingo, I basically left them with the impression that I wasn't new to the business and that I would be a valuable addition to their firm. So, I show up to the "Blitz" on that Friday at Scottsdale location and in my opinion, interviewed beautifully. I was given feedback from them at the end of each interview that was positive. I mean, I had at the time, 10 years experience in the industry and was licensed to boot! I left that day feeling that I nailed it and I was on my way to the $34,500 ( underpaid ) job that I applied for. I believe the group was called the BDG.. Business Development Group. So, the following week, I got a letter in the mail from the very first gal that I interviewed with that day and it basically stated that although my credentials were quite impressive, they were persuing other more qualified candadites for the position. Are you kidding me? So after sitting back and thinking about it and reading other reports on this site, I finally realized.....I was the one who was over qualified, I was the one with too much experience. Basically, I knew they feared that I knew the system to well and was probably not going to be easily brainwashed by the current management. So, it makes sense why companies love to hire from the outside, especially individuals who actually have NO experience. That's the key. They want people who they can mold and basically jerk around and not have to give raises to because it might affect their raises or bonuses. Now I know where entreprenuers get their motivation.

You should be thrilled you didn't get hired at that monsterity of a place. I worked there 12 years and it is the worse place in the world to work. Now, they have taken away the partnership they were giving their employees. Now you have to get a certain level on your review to get partnership, before, every one got it.
Their benefits have changed for the worse too. VG used to have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, now they have Aetna HMO, which is the worst insurance you can get.
They can afford to give the employees better insurance!!!! Come on VG, what are
you doing????? VG makes it very difficult to get a raise and to move forward onto a better position. I wanted to change positions and I had to go thru 7 interviews before getting the job!!!! At that time, I already was working there for 7 yrs!!!!
Give me a break!!!!
