Hired company 10/07 for new roof & siding. Paid 1/4 of amount up front. Week into job, contractor begged for another 1/4 of money because other homeowners had "stiffed" him. Believing him, we paid. Work started slowly. Contractor told us "Do not hire sub-contractors. All workers work directly for me". Found out quickly, this was untrue. Took 10 days for old roof to be torn off and new one placed on. Grounds around house were disgusting. They did not tarp house when removing old roof and left old roof pieces all over. Came home from work one day to discover, roof was not the one we ordered or paid for. Discussed with contractor and compromised. Did not want him to have to lose about $3,000.00 on roof. Roof complete, more delays before siding begins.

Week later, some siding torn off house and trash strewn all over property. Dumpster that contractor sent to our home was overflowing. We asked multiple times for him to remove it. He stated it could be filled even more. Found out this was another untruth coming out of his mouth. We finally called dumpster company to remove dumpster. That is when we were told by them that the reason dumpster was sitting at our house was due to a "bad credit card" used by company. Naturally contractor had an excuse for this also. Contractor also had us paying roofing/siding company directly. This should have been our warning sign that he had bad credit. We ignored all the red flags because we believed contractors excuses.

Meantime, his supposed supervisor, who had told us he would be on our job daily to make sure it was done properly, never showed up once during the roof installation or the partial siding installation. We were given a lame excuse for that. The super did show up when siding was partially done, looking for more money, which we did not give him. We then paid another 1/4 of job and discovered that a window was broken when some of the siding was being installed, along with our rear entrance door was broken.

Contractor said "Not a problem" and we again believed him when told he would pay for the damages. Siding subs walked off our job after a few days, told us that they were not getting paid. Of course, contractor turned the story around, told us the sub had "Stolen" from him. Again, being trusting and honest people, we believed him.

Toward mid-December, other subs were brought to our home to look at job by contractor, Hank Buhner, none wanted the job, they left. Finally one came back to our home, told us that he "Felt badly for us" and would do the job but only if we guaranteed he'd be paid, because Hank Buhner was notorious for bad credit, checks and none payment. We guaranteed this subs money and work finally began again on home. We told the contractor, VASS SIDING, owned by Hank Buhner, that we guaranteed the subs money. He told us it was not necessary to have done so.

A few days into the new sub doing job, they came to us for the money, said that Hank Buhner, nor his supposed supervisor, Larry Jones, had shown up to pay him and his crew. We paid the sub immediately. Sub also told us he would not be back to finish job. He did not like working for VASS SIDING and had many problems with both Buhner and Jones. Then he went into detail about the two men and their 'crooked' businesses. We thanked him for making the home at least a bit presentable and also for cleaning up over 1,000 large roofing nails and trash left strewn all over our grounds, by the previous work crews. Also, each crew stood around for hours/days waiting for delivery of supplies. All were shocked that we had paid for the supplies instead of VASS and that they were not being delivered. Each time, we had to call supply house to send out the supplies. Days wasted once again.

This began the odyssey of trying to have VASS SIDING and Hank Buhner get another crew to finish our job. We were given more excuses. End of December, contacted the Bucks County D.A., our attorney and Bucks Consumer Affairs. Found out there were already TEN judgements against Buhner and his companies, along with open case in neighboring Montgomery County for "Theft by Unlawful Taking, "Bad Checks", etc. We were a bit astonished by this information as we had believed and trusted BUHNER.

We were told the steps we needed to take to file a suit against VASS and BUHNER. We began by filing a local police report. We then called the maker of the siding to come look at the work. He was astonished at the poor craftmanship and informed us that the siding was not installed correctly, therefore voiding any thought of a company warranty.

At this point, we are into this siding job by over $15,000.00 and counting. We also were informed we needed to send a letter detailing the job to the contractor, VASS SIDING, Hank Buhner and requesting a finish date for job. Certified letters were sent, one was signed for, however; no finish date by BUHNER. He continued calling us with one excuse after another. Finally in early March, brings another! sub to the job. Sub knocks at my door at 9:30am, never met him previously. He asks me to call BUHNER because he never showed up to meet them and when he called BUHNER all he was getting was voice mail. I called, received same voice mail. Sub then asked me to "Walk around" our house and point out the punch list items. I did so and he and the other worker he was with, were more than a bit dismayed over the sub-par job done on the house. One of them said "Not doing this job, too much, it is a mess." I ignored the comment thinking he would change his mind. I then went into my home and the sub and his workers said they would wait in the truck for Buhner. When I left my home ten minutes later, their trucks were gone. I thought they went to get coffee.

Imagine my surprise when I returned home and saw no work had begun on house nor were the workers here. Buhner called that evening and told me that the men left the job because "You yelled at him." I told Buhner I had not yelled at anyone. What a ridiculous statement coming from Buhner's mouth, but then again, at this point, considered the source and moved on. Realized it was another lie for him to not finish the job. I challanged him to have the sub come back and tell me face to face that I had "yelled at him", knowing full well the sub would not do so because it never happened.

We are now into the sixth month of a siding/roofing job that should have taken three weeks maximum. We are also out over $17,000.00 paid to VASS, along with monies to our attorney, the Courts, etc.

Supposedly workmen were to be at our house this week, but the supposed secretary at VASS, who was "working on securing a crew" to finish the house, is in the hospital. We are not sure how this reflects on no crews showing up to the house. If they were scheduled to be here, they would be here, regardless of the supposed illness of the 'secretary'. Called VASS and have not received any calls back from this over the matter.

We have given them more than ample time to fix this problem, show that they are upright, honest people and have been treated as imbiciles by them. We now are in the midst of filing with the Courts, along with local authorities (who are checking into other problems with Buhner and crew) and hope that once it goes to Court, the matter will be settled. How a company with 10+ judgements against them can continue to deceive, basically steal money from honest, hard-working people, is beyond us.

We do have in our favor, besides paying for an uncompleted job, a host of people that have worked with or for VASS, along with a supply company they use and the dumpster company, agreeing to go to Court with us against VASS. We also were told to get three estimates for finishing the job, to be taken to Court with us. We did so, calling three independant contractors. Estimates from them were between $18,000.00 and $24,500.00. All told us that the job had to be completely redone.

With a favorable judgement against this company, we hope that the only siding Buhner will be involved with, will be when he is housed behind four walls owned by the State of Pennsylvania. That way he will not be able to hurt any other people, financially or morally.

In addition, there are websites that when any of Buhners company names are put into, come up for "Reviews". We put in unfavorable reviews in each of them and they were immediately removed, replaced with favorable reviews, all of which are bogus. This will cause other potential customers to be misled, sadly.

Thanx for the great birthday gift Buhner, et al

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 09, 2009

November 19th is my birthday. Recently found out that it was also a big day for Buhner. Hopefully this time the Court responds properly and you will not be able to 'rip off' any other honest, hard working people.

Karma Hank, didn't we discuss it before? It always comes back and bites you in the end. Shame that you feel the need to be deceitful instead of an honest person.

For any person(s) reading this response, beware of VASS and the owner, Hank Buhner. They do not do proper work, they do not pay their workers, their suppliers, etc. They will take your money, they will prey on you for being nice to them and in the end, not only will you be dissatisfied with the work, you will feel violated for believing Buhner and his falsehoods.

His arrest record is getting longer. In late 2008, arrest was made for theft by deception, criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen goods, false impression, bad checks, etc., approximately 100 counts! which mirrors his previous charges from 2007. I recommend that you hire any other contractor than VASS. It will save you money, time, effort and peace of mind to do so.

Happy Birthday to me!!!!

P.S. Wonder how long until a false rebuttal is posted, praising VASS for their "wonderful" work. Please ensure that you use dictionary.com prior to posting. Your spelling mistakes are always the give-a-way that it is the same person, perhaps someone in Buhners 'office' or 'home'?

Are You Delusional?

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 07, 2008

In reply to the malicious and fraudulant claims made by VASS in their posting:

At NO time did we attempt or hire any other company other than VASS Siding and Roofing. We were asked to pay the third sub contractor on the job because VASS did not pay them, nor the previous two sub-contractors VASS brought on the job. AFTER the manufacturer rep came out, saw the way the siding job was done, HE gave us the name of companies that they deal with and VASS is NOT one of them. He told us to call a few of the companies to get prices to fix the mess of siding on our home. We did NOT hire any one, other than VASS, who by the way, assured us that they had their own work staff and did not hire sub-contractors. NOT TRUE, they only hire subs and have a difficult time finding them due to their non-paying practice.

NEVER did we complain about the sub-contractors "Customer calling into office the office and complaining". We would call when no one would show up on the job because the supposed supervisor was NEVER here to insure that their subs were showing up. Buhner was always surprised when told no one showed up. In fact, Buhner made the comment on more than one occassion "You LOVED all the workers". Now how in the world did that change so quickly? He was angry we liked the subs and now he is angry we supposedly did not. Again, he wants everyone to believe the falsehoods he has accused us of. His story changes like the wind. The only ones that we ever called the office to complain about was Jones and Buhner due to their lies.

Oddly enough, the claims made that we hired the subs "Behind the contractors back" is EXACTLY the excuse the Buhner used when he came looking for more money in the beginning of the job. Told us and I quote "Had to fire a crew because they took a job behind my back on a house next to one that I hired them for." Not exactly original are you? Using the same excuse against us as with others? Laughable. PROVE that we hired ANY of your subs to do ANY work on our home other than what YOU were hired to do and they were HIRED by YOU to do. Bring the proof with you because believe me, you will need it with all the accusations you placed in writing. Tsk Tsk, be careful what you put out there because it is now there for all to see, print and use in Court. Which one of your subs would we be stupid enough to hire? None of them did the job correctly. Yeesh! Why would we go from worse to awful? We are not that foolish.

The supposed decking/roofing that we supposedly did not pay for; was due to VASS sub-contractors placing the WRONG roof on our house. We did not want VASS to have to take the loss and replace the entire roof, so we agreed to a $1,000.00 deduction on the bill with Bruhner AFTER he told us that he would have to take a loss if we wanted the WRONG roof taken off. IF we had them held to the contract and the roof replaced with the one ordered, it would have cost VASS MUCH more than $1,000.00, those were Buhner's words, NOT OURS. The roof that was replaced was not bad due to "Years and years of neglect". The roof that was replaced was 14 years old and not bad. We wanted to update the roof with the newer shingles that had come onto the market in recent years. My husband is a UNION contractor with a background of archetechtural roofing (Four years of UNION school). He would NOT have a "neglected roof". We do not live like that nor would we for goodness sake! By the way, part of the roof was replaced four years ago, so how would that classify as "Years and years of neglect"? Roof did not leak nor did it have holes or damage to it. We merely wanted it replaced so it would match the new siding. It is laughable when you make false claims.

The storm door, front entrance door, rear storm door, porch posts AND the broken window were ALL paid for by us, along with paint. We have the receipts. Give us a break, don't lie about things you are unable to back up, not to mention, we are able to print out, turn over to the police, DA and our attorney to be used in Court against you. Shame on you for even trying at this point in time to act as if you have done everything possible to finish our home. Six months and time is clicking away and still we wait. Please, if you have receipts for a storm door, window and front door that you supposedly purchased for our home, by all means, bring them to us or to Court. Would love to know what type of doors your purchased for our home and where you purchased them at and on what date. Since we did not select any doors with you, find it difficult to believe you took it upon yourself to do so. As if a homeowner would not want to select their own doors. Please show us the supposed invoices you have. It will be amusing to see how and where you are able to back up something like that. I am sure that the sub that placed the new doors on our home, will back you up with you purchasing the items, correct? They won't dare testify to being here the day the doors were delivered in one of OUR company's trucks and handed to them, would they now? Come on, who is going to take the witness stand and lie for you? Better yet, why would they lie for you or anyone else? Does not make sense and what doesn't make sense, is certainly not true. Also sure that the sub-contractor that sent me out to purchase the porch posts will back you up on your purchasing anything for our home. WE PAID the supply company, NOT you. WE PAID for the doors, NOT you. WE PAID for the window, NOT you. Now what did you pay for? You did not even pay the subs for heaven sake! We have ALL our checks to back us up (front and back with signatures). In fact, the DA and police have all those checks now. Do you have any checks to back up your false claims? Other than you paying Catagnus (which took how long and how many 'bad cards' to do so). Impossible and you know it, so why bother even going there? Out of anger perhaps? Anger over what? The truth put out there for all to see? Never would have happened had you been honest and finished the job you were contracted to do (along with the repairs needed due to shoddy work and damage done by the subs.) We never asked for anything more than what was contracted for. We certainly did not ask that your subs break windows and a door while doing the job. Nor did we ask that when capping our windows, some would be mitered and some would be straight, along with some being dinged beyond recognition and some not capped at all. We never asked for lies, deception and embarrassment when we contracted with you. We never asked that the home still be incomplete six months later. We never asked that instead of installing the siding properly, that bricks be put up against the side of our home to hold the siding down in case wind came along. We never asked for any of this other than to have our home roofed and sided. We paid you according to the contract (one payment made earlier than it was supposed to be made according to the contract). We NEVER refused payment. We NEVER did anything other than to trust and believe you. Our mistake, which we now realize and acknowledge for all to see.

As for the final payment not being made. YOU make the deductions and see how much is owed. $5,000.00? Have you deducted what was paid to the sub who supposed cried to you a few days later that he should not have had us guarantee his money? Have you seen the bill from him that we paid? YOUR name and Larry Jones' names are on the top of it, NOT OURS! Did you pay him? If so, please produce the check. Otherwise, do not claim that we hired him on our own. Larry Jones brought him to our house, not us. How about you telling him to "Charge them an extra $1,000.00"? Do you honestly believe that we would not believe him when he told us that? Why would he make something like that up? With the track record of you and Jones, we have no reason not to believe the sub over both of you.

How about the broken window, deduct that yet? Broken storm door, deducted yet?

Want to discuss in a public forum Catagnus Hauling? I do not think you want that made public also, do you? Do you think that when the supplier receives a subpoena, they are going to testify that you have a perfect track record with them regarding payment? You do NOT want to go there, do you?

Not to mention, we have saved EVERY voice message from you, Stacy, Stephanie and Jones. In fact, Jones called on December 14, 2007 asking for final payment (he called MANY times that day, all voice messages were saved). Think about that date, we still did not even have all the insulation on the side of the house or the siding on the front, yet Jones is looking for final payment. That is also one of the days that Catagnus was called by us, not you and was the eye-opener on what was going on. Possibly that was the day the first police report was filed also (yes, there have been more since). Neighbors complaining about the trash blowing all over and the overfilled dumpster, you gave us no choice at that point. It was an eyesore to everyone in the area.

I would also like proof, which we will ask for in Discovery for Court, which subs complained about us? We bought them breakfast and on occassion lunch. We merely were being kind to people that seemed to be hard working, honest men. We were told personal information about you AND Larry that we did not ask for nor wanted to know. However, with the job still not completed, the information the subs gave us, will help us in Court. I should add that we have a few of the workers, along with a distributor and container company, all willing to go to Court with us or write letters (to be sealed by a Notary) to back up what went on with our home, you and Larry and still seems to be going on. Most days, we were at work when the work on the home was going on. It was not until the wrong roof was placed on the house, that we started either taking days off to be here, or stopping by to make sure everything was going along. Can you blame us? Wrong roof is put on and we are supposed to ignore it? Come on, you cannot seriously think that we would not be around after that fiasco occured. Not to mention, your supposed "Supervisor" Jones, NEVER showed up on the job for six weeks, although when hired, HE assured us he would be here daily. Perhaps if he or even you, had shown up once in a while, the wrong roof would never have been put up to begin with. Oddly enough, Jones was supposed "Out of town due to a friends death - over 3,000 miles away" for those six weeks, yet he knew how many days it had rained here during those six weeks. One would have to stretch a guess pretty far that either Jones is a meterologist on the side, called the office every day to get a weather report and recorded it or was not out of town at the time. Wonder which one it is. We'll hazard our guess about it. We're sure that he has plane tickets or hotel receipts to produce to prove that he was out of town during that extended time because goodness, you would not have lied to us, would you have?

"Extra set of custom shutters". Huh? What extra set? What custom shutters? Do you even know that two sets of the shutters are not placed on the home correctly? This according to the manufacturer's rep that came out to check how their product was placed on our home by your company/sub-contractors. The shutters are standard issue shutters. They can be purchased at Home Depot for goodness sake! Come now, your baseless claims are causing us to laugh uncontrollably.

The reason that we did not, according to your accusation; "Customer claimed was going to have the job completed by another contractor" is because we are intelligent and would never think to give you an 'out' in finishing the job YOU were contracted AND paid to do, until such time either you do finish it or a Court orders you to furnish monies to do so.

We believed you, trusted you and look where it has gotten us. NOWHERE! An incomplete house, eyesore in some area's of it. Siding FALLING off in places. Damage to our home caused by YOUR subs and yet you have the gall to accuse us of non-payment. How many times did you come to our home and LIE about the reason you needed money? AND EVERY time, we paid. Give it up please, this is childish and extremely unprofessional of you. I would hate to see your company go the way Jones led his :X

Oddly enough, since my original posting, we have received no less than four emails from either subs that have worked for you or previous customers of yours. Goodness, when subs and previous customers give us their home phone, cell phone or company phone numbers to contact them about you (since passed along to the attorney and DA), one would think you would buck up and finish the job you WERE paid to do. Is there a balance due? How would anyone know since you haven't set foot on our property since December. We NEVER said we would not pay when the job is finished, we will, but not the amount you seem to think it is AND NOT until the job is completed. Deduct 'D Siding's' payment (bill made out to Jones, not us), the damaged items that were replaced BY US, finish the job and then you'll be paid.

We were NOT "Playing General Contractor", we are the owners of a home and hired a supposed company that would know how to roof and side a home. That was not the case, obviously. You act as if we should be faulted because we care about our home and take pride in it. Perhaps you do not care about your own home and do not understand when others want nice, clean homes, I don't know, nor at this point do I care what you think, feel or care about. We have been told too much about you and Jones and do not care to know anymore. We merely want our home finished as agreed upon and as of today, May 7, 2008, it has not happened.

You play your little telephone games, calling every few weeks stating that you want this all cleared up and finished, blah, blah, blah, but have yet to show up or have the home finished. It is in your hands how this all proceeds. If it takes two months, six months, a year, two years, ten years, etc., we will continue to follow through with the legalities of the case. In your hands whether you want to end this now or continue on the path that you have chosen so far. Justice sometimes takes a while, but we promise, justice will be done. Again, I will state, we trusted you and believed you and you took full advantage of that. Remember Hank what we spoke about months ago? Karma? Has it come back to you yet? I would not wish that on anyone, however; I would not wish the nightmare and embarrassment that you have put us through on any one either.

Terrible company

AUTHOR: Shadow - (U.S.A.)

What a horrific experience for someone to go through and then to have a company call them liars. The fact that things were broken and the company will not take resposibility for that is appalling. The way that they spell and speak English must represent how terrible of a company they truly are.

Sad, Sad company

AUTHOR: Shadow - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Being a witness to the fiasco that Mike is speaking about, it is ashame that the company pretends to be someone else and creates a lie that is listed in the consumer comment section. Good luck with your law suit against the consumer, not sure how you would pay for a lawyer, maybe a bounced check since that is what you are extremely good at or maybe a cancelled charge card. It is amazing that other people have had poor experiences with VASS Siding, but I guess they all are making it up also. To call yourself an experienced and knowledgeable contractor is an overstatement. The unprofessionalism, shoddy workmanship and the fact that the job was never finished is proof that you are very delusional in your belief that you have done a nice job. Companies like yours give other companies bad reputations and make people very wary to hire anyone.

It is a shame a someome can post a report like this!!!

AUTHOR: Mike&michell Myyours - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 25, 2008

First of all : the report listed is so untrue!!! The customers had hired several of the crews that were working on there job, for the contractor, behind the contractors back for separate projects. After the first few crews came back to the office complaining about the customer, and the customer calling in and complaining about the crews, it seemed very unusual. It was not till the next crew came back to the office and explained what had been happening that it all made perfect sense. When the customer was confronted about the situation the first response was that they were going to have the job completed by another company. It did not take long for the customer to realize that the contractor they originally hired was by far the most knowledgeable, experienced, & also had great rates (which they had known from all the bids and screening they had obtained prior to hiring the original company). It could have been there foolish pride or embarr'a*s'ment for failing at trying to play there own "General Contractor", which is one of the comforts of hiring a reputable company & network in the first place. Anyway we will see who get a law-suite slapped on them!!! **** Notes:The only time a payment was requested was at the time one was due!!! #1-25% Deposit, #2-25% at start of job, #3-25% half way through job.

There was over half of the roof-deck/plywood & rafter/joists replacement that the customer wanted (/ needed due to years & years of neglect) and agreed to price (well below industry rates) that have not been paid for , nor have the extra sets of custom shutters, or the front entrance & storm doors, among other invoices, none of which have been payed for as well as the final/4th-25% of the origional contract. At this point the sits at $5,000.00 in the red. Which is livable; but not when the customer is telling every one they have paid in full? At least they could let the contractor know they acknowledge the balance, or at least that there is one!!! "SHAME On THEM" for trying to cause harm to a company that has had there family & home's best intrest at hart!!!
