I am a receptionist at vector marketing and although I will be quitting as soon as I get my last paycheck, I wouldnt feel right without letting the public know exactly what they are dealing with when calling in for a job opportunity, or even buying cutco.

Did you know eveything we do at Vector is scripted? When people call for employment, we read the entire conversation off of a computer screen. The trick is to say it fast enough with enough confidence so the person doesnt ask any questions and if they do you find the question on your screen click it and read what it says. If the question they ask isnt on our screen we have to say thats a great question why dont you ask the manager when you come in for the interview.

If they come in for the interview, the manager will spend 90 minutes explaining what you will be doing. Everything he says is from a memorized script that tells you just enough to get you interested but not enough for you to realize that you shouldn't be. Then you go to training which is 6 to 7 hours a day for 3 days. You are told that the training is paid however they dont explain that the first appointments you do are considered training and THAT is the part you're paid for. So you're really under the impression that you will be paid for sitting in the training room for 18 hrs.

You're also under the impression that there is no telemarketing, cold calling or door to door sales involved. Well, technically there isn't. No telemarketing because your not ACTUALLY selling cutco over the phone, your just setting up an appointment. No cold calling because you start out calling people you know, and when you call thier recommendations, you have the person who gave them to you call them first to make sure its ok if you call them, therefore since they already know you're going to call its not harrassment. No door to door because they already know you're coming so you wont be randomly knocking on thier door. So its true but only by technicalities. Alcas is a brilliant company that has found a way to scam people without actually scamming people. The information is all there if you're good with word games.

Even when sales reps go on appointments they read off a "manual" which is actually a script designed by the company to make you want the product.

Everything they do is a twist on words. Like how they say they dont actually hire people, they accept them. They dont hire peple that way if you screw up (which appearantly i easy to do) the company wont take the blame. They dont even have to know who you are they dont ask for a social security card birth certificate not even an I.D.

In conclusion Vector has found a legal way to be a fraudulent company and has managed to find every loophole in the system.

Paid for school working for Vector

AUTHOR: The Objective Eye - (Canada)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 16, 2009

The Vector job isn't for everyone, but I worked there while I was in university here in Canada, and I was able to graduate debt-free and buy a $15,000 car in cash.

/shrug

Job's not for everyone, and not everyone's good at it. And that's fine. I laugh when people say "it's a scam" because presentations are done in the home 1-on-1 with people you know (and then eventually people they refer you to).

People who cry and scream, in my experience, probably shouldn't have been hired in the first place. That fault lies on the manager and the weak screening process. Pampered Chef, Mary Kay or Tupperware, run their businesses the same. The only difference is that the client invites friends over and the rep does a presentation for everyone at once. You don't hear people screaming "scam".

I will say that the product, Cutco, is simply amazing. It really is the best of its kind. My customers (and I have over 2,000 of them) have now owned it for over 15 years and really now they are appreciating how great a product it was and how worth the money they spent on it was. And with the company's guarantee, every time the knives need sharpening (which is about every 5-7 years), the company sharpens it for free.

So, all in all, don't knock the product, or the system. Maybe Vector needs to take a closer look at their managers and interviewing processes, that I'll give you.

I am set up for an "interview" with this company tomorrow morning & I would have been really pissed off had I gone!!! Of course, I would have probably seen straight through their obvious BS & gotten removed from the building because I have a hard time keeping my big mouth shut. LOL So, thank you so much for saving me the time, effort, gas & attitude!

Is this company in anyway related to smart circle? Smart circle is another marketing company, where you are 1099 employment status (company is not responsible for you), and the "recruiters" that call are pretty much your run of the mill call center staff (they know nothing about the business). One of the Vector recruiters called me, when I asked what the position was she answered really hesitantly that it's a sales poistion, she claimed there was "multiple positions" available, but did not elaborate on what they were. The recruiter also sounded like she was searching through paper work on her desk for a script before she started telling me about the position. These two companies sound very similar. What I saw at smart circle was they have such a high turnover that the managers who know the business are not the ones to contact you. The recruiter pre made rebuttals and the line "thats a great question for your interview" are also EXACTLY what smart circle does.

Just because it is related (or at least modeled from) smart circle doesn't mean it's a bad thing, just not for the majority of ppl and what ever your told by management must be taken w/ a grain of salt-THIS IS BECAUSE THEY ARE MARKETING THEIR BUSINESS TO YOU TO GROW THEIR OWN BUSINESS.
