I was contracted for a tradeshow at the Javits Center in NYC for Nov. 4th and 5th of 2009 for $180 a day. I was instructed I would receive payment by the end of the year. In January 2010, I notified Venus Hurst that I still had not been paid for the show. She promised to send the check if she could the following week. It was never sent. I emailed, called, texted, the following three months on a bi-monthly, and then weekly basis to no avail. I posted a complaint in May regarding her agency and that it is an unprofessional company that does not pay talent. She responded, threatening that I remove the comments or I will never see my check. The comments were removed and the check was not sent. It has been eight months and I never saw a dime of the $360 that she owed me. She rationalized that shewould post negative things if she was in my situation and has sued clients that didn't pay her, essentially encouraging me to do the same if I wanted to see payment.

VENUS MODELS RIPPED ME OFF AS WELL!!
AUTHOR: Alina - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, January 04, 2011
I was also contracted by Venus Models for an Industrial Video shoot in Kentucky back in June 2010. I traveled from Miami to shoot at the clients studio in Kentucky for a 2 day shoot with lots of technical dialogue. My rate for the 2 day shoot was $2000 flat rate, plus she charged the clients a 30% commission fee on top of my rate. One week later, the clients requested I record a voiceover for them. The rate was $300 with her 30% commission.
The clients have requested a Talent Release for my image and likeness, which I have and more than willing to provide to the clients once I get paid. Venus has been made aware of this and she has not addressed the situation. She has been avoiding me and the clients for the last 7 months.
I have been contacting Venus since early July 2010, in an attempt to collect my money. She also promised to send the check the following week. It still has not been sent. I have been following up with her through emails, text messages, and numerous phone calls which she does not return.
Venus Models owes me $2300 and recently sent me a message on Facebook saying that she can't pay me.
Check out her last response to me after I threatened to post on the Rip off Report: Venus Starr January 4 at 3:31pm Report
Whatever! I don't give a F*** what you do.............
Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in filing a class action suit against her.

How to Spot a Fake Modeling Agency

How to Spot a Fake Modeling Agency | eHow.com:

Here is one big rule in particular that venusmodelsonline.com breaks, you can see this as soon as you pull up their site. ($149.99 a year!) Real modeling agencies don't charge models at all. --->
**Find out if the agency signs talent for free or if they charge upfront fees. By law, modeling agencies are not allowed to charge upfront fees of any kind before signing a new model. The majority of legit agencies will state somewhere in the website that they do not charge any fees. If an agency in question requires you to send money or to pay for a professional photographer to develop your portfolio before signing with them, chances are they are not a legit modeling agency.
Another red flag:
**Check the website. Note whether the site looks professionally done or if it is amateurish.
Real Modeling Agencies are also Licensed, check with Better Business Bureau if you are ever unsure.
We live and learn. Good Luck in the future and with these tools, I know you won't make the same mistake twice.
