I've been getting plenty of hang-up called from number 954-623-1630. Today I happened to pick up the phone and the person on the other end confirmed that she had reached "XYZ Company" (my business). I said "yes." She said that she was calling from Verizon Business and wanted to let me know that they had analyzed by telephone calling patterns. As a result of their "analysis" they were changing my plan to something called Verizon Freedom for Business, which included unlimited local and long distance.

I said "You're doing???" at which point the rep corrected herself and said "Oh, well we're offering this to you." I said "I'm not changing anything and don't call here again." I was so incensed I called the Verizon Business Office to see if indeed these scoundrels were authorized by VZ to contact me. I described the incident to the VZ person and he started into a script about the benefits of Verizon Freedom for Business.

I stopped him and said "Listen, I'm not calling to change anything. I was to know if this call was something authorized by Verizon, in which case I want the calls STOPPED." I mentioned to the rep that I had the number from Caller ID. He asked for it and put me on hold. After about a minute, I was cut-off. Since the "true" Verizon person clearly had my phone number he certainly could have called me back if he chose to. Instead, I'll just have to assume that Verizon employs these slick and dishonest telemarketing firms to trick customers into signing up for additional services.

I had been considering dropping my cable internet provider in favor or the new FIOS service from Verizon. Now I had to think twice about whether I want to hand over more of my money to a company that would be so down and dirty.

Inbound Operators

You questioned why they did not call you back. I have worked for several companies taking incoming phone calls. Often the phone reps are either inbound or outbound but not both. If they take calls they usually cannot call out. It is just an impossibility. This may be why.

A reverse phone search on www.whitepages.com shows that "(954) 623-1630 is a land line based in Pompano Beach, FL. The registered service provider is AT&T." Very obviously not Verizon.

As for why the real Verizon rep didn't call you back, one, you had just yelled at him that you "want the calls STOPPED." Two, out of the blue you call in, land on his line, and all of a sudden there you were, pissed off and yelling at him while he's just sitting there trying to do his job (and, probably, up to that point, having a pretty good day). You think after making that statement and yelling at him, he's going to be calling you right back, which more likely than not would have sent you into another tirade? Honestly, if you treated me that way, you'd still be waiting for me to call you back, too.

You're obviously a business owner...is that how you treat your vendor, clients, or customers? Especially one you *want* something from? You think we're just canned autobot voices sitting there for you, and others *just* like you, to yell and scream at, and then we're just going to cheerfully do whatever you bid? Jump when you say jump? Just because you say so? There are *PEOPLE* on the other end of that line, Mr. "Duke." Start treating them as such, and maybe you'll get a little better service next time.
