I will start from the beginning. I had a Airtouch Cellular contract that was charged early termination fees of $300. When I refused to pay these fees, Verizon(FORMERLY AIRTOUCH CELLULAR) had a collection agency get a wage garnishment against me in the amount of $1214.05 plus .32 of interest a day. This includes attorneys fees and costs.

It was brought to my attention early on this year that Verizon was brought into a class action suit because these oral contract agreements to terminate and charge $150 on early termination accounts was not enforceable. So Verizon was required to refund these fees and correct TRW's of all affected customers involved.

I have complied with what was required of me to do in order to recieve my refund of early termination fees and then I find out that instead of receiving a check for the amount that Verizon owed, Verizon credits my Verizon account.

I dont have a Verizon account.

I would like to further state that I should be entitled to all the money back that was garnished because of their mistake in the first place.

Thats not the worst of it yet though. I then recieve a letter stating that the money was credited to my Verizon account on April 30,2002 and confirmed by one of Verizon's representatives. GUESS WHAT? IT WASNT!!! I called the collection agency 2 weeks after this letter and they had not received any notice of credit.

I am furious about being lied to while Verizon intends to stay MONEY HUNGRY LEECHES.

I have tried to resolve this over the phone numerous times with VERIZON only to be given the run around, or unsatisfied promises.

To this date I have written 3 letters on a another grievance website and forwarded a copy of each to 3 California governers to look over.

Verizon sure likes to collect money but doesnt want to pay out in service, quality or refunds.

info on roaming for tony and all others

AUTHOR: jean - ()

POSTED: Monday, September 02, 2002

hey, just an fyi for tony....if you worked as a csr for 3 years then why do you say you did not know you were roaming????if you did the work then you should no there is no way to program a phone to your calling plan only to your home area.... which means that your phone will say roam even though you may not be being charged or it will not say roam and you are being charged....know the problem well, before getting on and trying to give advice to others....as with saying that verizon is money hungry because they are buying anything and everything they can...what would you call business then...i know that the cell company that i work for would like to gain area for there customers..customers bring in money and more area means more customers..plus all those local plans that are out there would have larger areas to call within because they just bought out the next county in that state...or whatever the case may be.....i am not saying that verizon should be commended for how they have treated customers i am sure that the csr's have bad days like anyone else...they are people as well...beleive it or not....i know that customers think that everytime they are put on hold we may be laughing at them, but 99% of the time we are frustrated with ourselves because we cannot get the answer quick enough or sound confident enough even though the answers that we are giving are correct....so remmeber that we all have are right to pick the company and the reps that go along with it.....if you are considering a new company call the customer service line first and get to know the reps...in the cell company i work for we are local and will never deny a customer or someone that is feeling lonely and would just csll in to talk...that is how a business should be ran....everyone is important no matter if they spend .05 per month or 5,000 per month....it is a family and we are all part of it..
thank you

AUTHOR: tony - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 29, 2002

For the ones who have been ripped of by Verizonwireless and talked to these morons to get no where, I know your pain.

To those of you that are employees and try to defend verizon saying how you put us on mute to laugh at are problems you have just exposed how stupid you really are. Your not doing anything least of all your job.

I am a former employee customer service rep of verizon, i woke up and quit and make 3 times the money. But verizon couldnt let me go until they tried ripping me off. I had the america's choice plan and while at a verizonwireless amphitheater in kansas city i was charged roaming when my phone was updated to the 500018 software, it did not say roaming while i was there. not until i got the bill and yet noone will do anything about it execpt put us on mute and laugh. Here is the true meaning of Moron someone who listens to people complain about their bill all day and isn't smart enough to resolve the issue.

VERIZON IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE MONEY HUNGRY LEECHES

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 07, 2002

EXCUSE ME MISSY, BUT ORAL AGREEMENTS IN CALIFORNIA FOR CONTRACTS OVER A YEAR ARE NOT LEGAL. WHY DO YOU THINK VERIZON WAS SUED.

IF VERIZON ISNT MONEY HUNGRY THEN WHY ARE THEY TRYING TO BUY OUT ALL OTHER COMPETITORS? VERIZON JUST WANTS TO BE THE ONE AND ONLY TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS.

THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEUR CUSTOMERS.

THEY BETTER WATCH THEIR EMPLOYEES BETTER TOO, BECAUSE I KNOW SOMEONE THAT WORKS FOR VERIZON AND THEY TOLD ME ALOT OF DIRTY LAUNDERY GOING ON IN THIS COMPANY.

Verbal NOT binding in WA

AUTHOR: Dave - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 01, 2002

I just wanted to make a quick comment on the previous post (Missy). No offense intended to Missy - she had great suggestions.

Verbal agreement are NOT binding in all states (such as mine Washington). Before pursuing any legal action based on that you should check with your state's specific guidelines in regards to verbal and contractual agreements.

#5 UPDATE Employee

You will never see any money

AUTHOR: missy - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, July 31, 2002

When you sign up for service you agree to a contract, and should've signed something... BUT even if you didn't, a verbal (1 year) agreement is binding in the United States.

If you never paid the collection agency for your WRITTEN OFF account, then why do you expect to get money back? You get money back when you have paid for something. You will never get any money from Verizon Wireless. But that is not because Verizon is "money hungry leeches".

Unfortunatly you need to read the terms and conditions for the service you sign up for, everything is outlined, and if you didn't read this, it dosn't matter because by using the cell phone when you sign up, you automatically agree to the terms and conditions.

By the way Verizon Wireless is one of the hugest participants when it comes to U.S disasters and crisis. Verizon Wireless was the first ones there on Sept. 11th, at the Columbine shooting, and in many of the forest fire disasters, just to name a few.

Do not belittle a company that has done nothing wrong to you. The class action you are speaking of was for contracts that were extended over the phone by changing a price plan. This was not your situation, therefore does not pertain to you. Nice try though.

Have a good day, and pay the collection agency, or you will have BAD credit... that is my advice.

EDitor's Comment

Ron,

Contacting the office of the CEO may work for most other companies, but not with VeriZon. WE know this first hand.

No matter what the situation, it will fall on deaf ears. In most cases, no return phone calls by the CEO's secretary. Rip-off Report staff has tried to deal with them on several serious allegations involving fraud, incorrect billing, over billing, their calling party pays scam, bogus fees, to claims that contracts were signed by customers that do not exist.
