Verizon Wireless Left me lost, stranded, took my data already paid for. Nationwide
Today I decided that I wanted to make sure that I didn't forget to switch the pay as you go plan on my phone from the $60.00 a month plan to the $45.00 a month plan. Since I hadn't been using nearly any of the data that I had been paying for, it only made sense.
My monthy due date to refill my phone was approaching, and I went on my phone which allows me to make changes to my account mobily. Whenever I have added cards to my account, it has applied them to the month following, so my assumption was that if I made a change to my account, it would also apply to the following month. I was wrong. I made the change. There was no mention that the change was applied to this month and that my data was going to be turned off but it was.
Thirty minutes later I was driving in a neighborhood that I wasn't familiar with using google maps to get me there when my data dropped and I was left not knowing where I was. The area I was in was residential and I didn't even know the name of the street I was on. I was supposed to be at a business meeting, but couldn't even look up their phone number to let them know I wasn't going to make it because I couldn't get on the internet.
I could, however, call verizon. Verizon let me know that when you make a change to your plan, it changes immediately. They tried to tell me that though I still had data and time left on my plan that I had already paid for, and they weren't going to give it back to me, they weren't stealing my money. They also told me that they couldn't turn my data back on until I bought a new card.
I explained to them explicitly that I was stuck in a neighborhood that I wasn't familiar with and that I didn't know how to get to a store from where I was and they were not concerned for my safety at all. I am a very small woman and I let them know that I was all alone, and still they did not see fit to give me data so that I could find my way back home. Now mind you that this is data that I have already paid for, but they aren't willing to give me, because I pushed the wrong button on my phone.
I pushed that button, and there was no disclaimer that told me that when I made that decision, any data that was purchased formally would be forfeited. There was no pop up that said are you sure that you want to start a new plan and end the old plan while giving up any already paid for services. I brought that to their attention to, but they were unconcerned. They said they were doing all they could do for me. All they could do for me in the end after being on the phone for more than a half an hour was credit my account for a little more than $2.00 which I can never use because when you buy your plan on cards, it will never use that money. It will always belong to verizon, and that is how they want it.
In the end they have my money and this situation could have been a lot worse. I didn't know where I was. Something could have happened to me because of it, and verizon should be responsible for that sort of thing if it should happen. They left me alone on a street with no way to find my way out and refused to let me use services that I had already paid for while risking my personal safety. How irresponsible?
