I had service with Verizon Wireless for over 2-3 yrs. The cell phone quit charging. I stopped at a dealer to upgrade the phone. They gave me a discount on a new phone under the guise of being a valued customer. I left the store with the receipt....nothing more.

Four months later due to paying for a monthly cell phone charge that I wasn't using and monthly service fees, I requested the service to be discontinued. There were no outstanding charges to the account. Over the last year I received notices from Verizon that they owed me a $10.00 credit. This has been the only corespondance I have received.

Two days ago I receive a phone call from a collection agency stating I had an outstanding balance of $180.00 with Verizon Wireless. With the usual redrik of the potential for the debt to progress into a legal situation. Of intrest, I have never received written notice by the collection agency regarding any such debt either.

I called Verizon. They stated it was due to an early termination fee. I debated the fact stating I had kept up with my end of the original contract for the 2yr obligation and in fact it was over three years. They then replied that when I purchased an updated cell phone at the discounted price that an additional automatic 2yr contract was initiated.

I complained and said that this information was never verbally disclosed nor did I sign any new contract. Furthermore, I was prepared to pay full price for a phone. Their reply, "We have copies of the receipt and a letter was sent explaining the extended contract with a 15 day window to dispute it and a request to return the phone." To my knowledge no such letter existed.

Again! The sales rep never notified me verbally or with a physical contract of these conditions. If they had I would have walked out of the store and done buisness elsewhere! By far there are too many better cellular phone deals then this.

Next, they offered to resolve the matter by me reinstating their service with an additional re-connection fee and the doubled price (of what I was reviously paying) monthly service charge for the remaining 20 months.

Today! Signs are posted, but they weren't at the time of my transaction. I wish I had never heard of the scoundrels.
