Our family has been involved with Verizon since May 2013, when we started a 2-yr contract with them for 4 phones. We quickly grew disillusioned when Verizon customer service was almost impossible to contact without holding on the phone for at least 20 minutes, and also when they demanded about $300 to take my son off our plan after he lost his phone in a car accident. So, we never renewed our plan after expiration. However, we did continue to keep our phones and pay month to month. In Feb 2016, 3 months after our contract ended, my daughter's iPhone died, so we had to buy her a new one on a month-to-month payment plan. They charged us $760 for the phone which we found out later usually sells for about $200 less, and the Verizon rep also lied to us about how much we would have to pay per month on the phone by leaving out the tax and financing charges. To this day, Verizon likes to tell us that there are no financing charges on my daughter's phone, which is clearly not true. We recently found a much cheaper company, which has given us 3 new phones and charges us $60/month less than Verizon does. However, Verizon just sent me a bill for $411.58 to pay for the balance on my daughter's phone, even though we have already been paying it down for a year. We were initially overcharged for the phone, and then lied to about financing charges and monthly payments. I want Verizon to drop its unfair charge on the phone's balance!

Hey loser....at least I'm making a legitimate complaint against an abusive company, Verizon, that consumrs should know about. What are you doing online? You don't even work for Verizon. Why don't you go bother someone else, rather than troll on this site all day like a complete loser who has nothing else better to do. I feel sorry for you, buddy!

You have failed to substantiate your claim

“Verizon did not respond to the charge that the salesperson never let us know how much taxes and interest we would be charged, but they did admit that the charges were hidden in the bill once I received it a month after the purchase.”
Were any of the charges clearly labeled as interest? You evaded my question about the initial payment agreement. Did you read it?
“Verizon responded that my termination fee was $300, yet they carged us $412.”
What did they claim the additional $112 was for?
“I can only hope that Ripoff Report will keep my complaint posted forever, so that others can be advised not to do business with Verizon.”
We already determined that you were not overcharged for the new iPhone and you admit there was an early termination fee so anyone reading your complaint will clearly see that you have failed to substantiate your claim that you were ripped off.
No, I am not and have never been employed by Verizon.

I really don't have much more to say about Verizon, except to repeat myself. They originally overcharged my daughter for her phone and then denied that there were additional finance charges. They never disclosed what the monthly billings would be until it was too late and we couldn't return the phone. Their customer service is also quite poor, taking an average of about 20 minutes to get someone on the phone after you call their phone number. As you can tell from Verizon's rebuttals, they never admit they are wrong and are very defensive about everything. They also refuse to settle with me. This will be my last posting about Verizon, because I find it pointless to argue with such an inflexible, defensive company which admits no wrong. My complaint still stands and I can only hope that Ripoff Report will keep my complaint posted forever, so that others can be advised not to do business with Verizon.

First this is Month-to-Month plan. So I believe that the other response on Early Termination Fees is not going to apply in this case, but it does note mentioning as you will see.
First the RETAIL value of an iPhone is going to be $700+ depending on exactly what phone you get, so yes a new iPhone could be $769. You are NOT going to find a NEW iPhone for $200 ANYWHERE unless it is stolen. What you are thinking of is that several years ago(and probably what you got on the original contract) companies would "offer" phones at a discounted rate if you signed up for a 2 year contract. Where if you leave early you are subject to an Early Termination fee. These sort of offers have all but gone, but again those were for TWO YEAR contracts..yours is now a Month to-Month plan.
What is gaining popularity and what you got on the Month-to-Month plan is you are charged the full price of the phone, and then pay a set amount each month for 24-30 months at no interest until it is paid off in addition to the cell phone bill. You aren't generally subject to any ETF fees, BUT if you leave early you MUST pay the balance of the phone immediately.
So no they are not "ripping you off" this is what YOU agreed to and trying to get them to just forget bout the debt is not only not going to happen if you fail to pay it they will turn you over to collections.
Also, you better take a look at the contract you got with this new company. As there is one thing that companies don't do..just "give" you something for nothing. Unless this new company "gave" you new iPhones, the $60/month less is probably just the difference in the cost of the phones you got.
Now, one other thing I wil throw in on you is that if the phone is a "newer" phone such as a iPhone 6 or even 7, you may be able to just sell it for several hundred dollars. But you must pay off the phone first or no one will purchase it because Verizon has it flagged as delinquent balance.

Verizon is a dishonest company with rude staff like the person who responded to my initial complaint. I would advise all consumers to avoid doing business with the company!! You can get much better deals from much nicer staff at other companies like Boost and Sprint.

The $300 charge was an early termination fee or the balance owed on the lost phone.
You were not overcharged on the iPhone purchase unless you were charged more than the agreed amount. Of course you are expected to pay sales tax. One year of payments at about $25 a month is approximately $300 so the balance due on the iPhone appears reasonable. Your dissatisfaction with the cost of the new iPhone is a case of buyer’s remorse.
“Verizon likes to tell us that there are no financing charges on my daughter's phone, which is clearly not true.”
Is there a finance charge noted on the monthly invoice or initial payment agreement? Are the monthly payments greater than the amount noted on the payment agreement? If yes, specifically, what are the discrepancies?
Your expectation of Verizon to drop the balance owed is absurd.
