I ordered the Quick Books lesson online through Video Professor. The website states that you can get your first lesson for free then you will be billed for any additional lessons. I was very careful to read the Terms & Conditions when I ordered because I realized that you would be billed for the additional lessons if you didn't cancel within 10 days. I received my first lesson March 3rd, 2009. I used the software provided and didn't find it very helpful. The lesson was so basic that what the software "teaches" are things I had picked up on my own using quickbooks. I had completed the lesson on the software by March 7th, 2009 and wasn't very happy with it so I planned on cancelling and returning the software the following Monday.
That Monday I was billed 189.95. I called the customer service line to cancel and return the software and get a refund at this point. I was informed that the 10 day period I had to review the software and cancel was based on the time the product was shipped. They state that they shipped the lesson on 2/19/2009. The representative I spoke to had the audacity to laugh about how often he gets yelled at when I stated that I thought their billing pratices were very misleading. I explained that the product was not helpful, and I was planning on canceling the service. At that point he advised me that they had sent me another lesson which I hadn't ordered and that I would be billed another 189.95 if I didn't return the product within 10 days of when it shipped.
After talking to the representative for several minutes it was very clear that they had no intention of allowing me to return the original lesson I had ordered. I advised him of my intention to chargeback the charges through Visa. He stated to me that was the only way I could expect a refund, and that most of their customers have to do this.
I have no problem paying the shipping costs associated with ordering and returning the lesson. My issue lies with the fact that the software wasn't helpful at all and I have no use for it. I would have gladly returned it within 10 days of when it was shipped if I would have been aware that is when the 10 day grace period began. They lead you to believe that the 10 days begins from when you get the product not when they ship it.

Use caution...

Meagan,
In September of 2007 Video Professor filed a lawsuit against 100 people who had posted anonymous complaints about them. They did drop the suit in December of that year but I still suggest caution when dealing with them. I wouldn't trust Video Professor that much.
