VideoAge International TV Trade Media Doesn't pay freelancers according to contract New York, New York

I recently completed some (19) writing projects for this magazine. We had previously agreed upon a set daily $ amount. When it came time to pay me, management said I didn't do a good job - or finish the job. As I had previously freelanced for them doing the same thing (and never heard a bad word before), I knew exactly what their procedures were - and they had paid me on time in the past.

I submitted my work on a daily basis for it to be reviewed and returned to me with changes/comments.  I was never sent any changes/comments, but I was accused of not completing the job, and therefore was only going to get 50% of my contracted payment. I told them I could've come into the office or the changes could've been emailed to me and I would've been happy to make them and send them back. Not once was I asked to make changes. (In fact, they said they had to pay someone else to come in and make the changes.)

I told them that if I was not treated fairly and paid for the work that was completed, according to our agreement, I was never going to work for them again - nor recommend anyone (again) to work for them.

Although I pointed all of this out to them, they didn't budge until I wrote two weeks later that I was going to file in small claims court to collect the other portion of my payment.

In addition, they also didn't yet pay the person I recommended to work for them.

This is not a company I would recommend anyone to work for. They're just not fair people.
