 Just a note on Vision Financial, as I read some of the other reports and the response from their manager to one of the people who wrote a complaint.  I was married 4 years ago and my husband had a lot of baggage in the form of old debts from a prior marriage.  On the other hand, I have been financially responsible my entire life.  Over the past four years, I have worked diligently to pay off his old debt, paying some settlement offers and making payments on others until the debt was cleared.  We were notified by Vision Financial today.  I received a call from my husband while he was at work stating that he had spoken with someone.  He told them it was a bad time and he would have to return their call.  I work from home, and soon after, our home phone began ringing repeatedly.  Every time I answered, they hung up on me. 

Frustrated with the calls incoming from the same number with no response upon answering, I called the number back.  It was Vision Financial.  The first time I called, I was on hold for 12 minutes.  I hung up and called directly back, and was again on hold for 7 minutes.  Finally, the third time calling back, I spoke with Chris Parker.  I explained that I am his new wife and I needed information about this debt before I could make any kind of educated decision.  I asked if they had ever sent any form of paper mail regarding this debt.  He said, "No."  I asked if they could send something with some detail of this debt.  He said, "We don't do that."  I asked if they had an address so I could send correspondence to them.  He replied, "No."  Becoming more and more frustrated, I replied, "So your company has no mailing address?"  He then replied, "Ma'am, I cannot give you any information.  If you want any information, you can go to our website."  Unbelievable!  Why would any collection company think that anyone would just hand over money without knowing what it was for?  I manage all of the finances in our household.  I track all of the outstanding debts that my husband has.  We have had some companies try to collect debt for debt that we have already taken care of through another company. 

This is why I asked for more information, in writing, regarding this debt.  For the manager who was very unprofessional in his/her response, people fall on hard times.  It does happen.  If you want people to clear up their debt, maybe your company should be more forthcoming with exactly what that debt is for.  I don't have a problem paying my husband's old debt.  It is the right thing to do.  I do, however, have a problem when someone repeatedly calls my home and will not give me information regarding a debt, but feels that it is okay to demand payment.  Even people who have made poor financial choices deserve respect.  Vision Financial shows no respect.  I would suggest an interpersonal communication course for everyone who works there and then this company needs to revisit their policies and procedures.  You get more flies with honey than vinegar.  With all of the nastiness that I have read about this company and the nasty response from one of their very own on the internet, they will never get one red cent from us -- so maybe they will have to change their policy and send something out in the mail.  As for the repeated calls, each and every time they call our home, I will simply ask for something on hardcopy.  When they tell me, "We don't do that, " I will have the same response when they ask for payment. 

For all of you out there having to deal with this company, ask them for verification.  If they cannot provide verification of the debt they are trying to collect, then why would they be entitled to collect it.  Also, I have noted that they are notorious for running credit reports on people whom they attempt to collect debt from.  I have sent out letters to the credit reporting agencies stopping all inquiries of them into my husband's credit.  Each and every time they run your credit, you take a hit.  And why do they need to run your credit?  You aren't asking them for a loan.  They are a collection agency.  I work for a team of attorneys and have a monthly meeting with them in their offices.  I will address their right to do this during my next meeting and if they are not allowed to do that, I will let all of you know.  Until then, take my advice.  If they cannot be upfront enough to send something in writing regarding the debt they wish to collect, then do not pay them.  This practice on their part does not seem to be a legitimate business practice.
