As a parent you try to make the best choices for your kids. When our son was having a problem with drinking and was experiencing severe depression we sent him to Visions Adolescent Treatment Center. We thought it was a sound choice but now I regret it. We chose Visions because they have been around for awhile, becuase they talked up their family therapy component, because a therapist friend had heard of them, and because they told us he would have individual therapy with a licensed provider. They require a 45 days minimum stay and now I wish we hadn't asked our son to endure the full stay.

He had wanted to leave early, but they told us that was a typical response, so we asked him to stick it out. When my son talks about his experience (he is now talking openly with us) it simply makes me angry that we wasted all the resources, mainly, the time. Maybe Visions is good with kids who are strictly dealing with a drug problem but our son tells us he always felt like an outsider and that the emphasis was on groups and fitting into the group. He felt like the focus was on the drinking and that his depression was minimized. Though we were told that he would receive at least 3 individual counselling sessions a week, he says that he only received a couple of individual sessions with a licensed therapist during the length of his stay and that most of his "sessions" were with the program staff.

He also says that he never saw half the people listed on the website. This all correllates as when we asked about the results of his psychological assessments, that were supposedly part of the standard program, we never really got a firm response. Also, we participated in a couple of family sessions, which were always underwhelming to me, but I was trying to be supportive to my son. In hindsight I should have trusted my instincts rather than the facility staff. I recommend that you do your homework and confirm what you are actually getting before you make a decision.

And your drinking and depressed child has never lied to you?? You cant look at what he says as gosple. Im not saying that everything your child is saying is a lie, but as someone who had to put someone in treatment I KNOW that because they feel betrayed and abandoned they tend to make things up. Odds are that your child is making up stories in order to make YOU feel bad for sending them there. Im not saying that your kid is being malicious, just that THEY feel betrayed and if they can make trouble for ALL parties involved, it tends to make them feel like they have SOME control. So instead of just believing that YOU spent all this money and they didnt DO ANYTHING to assist your golden child, take a few mins and ask the treatment center to give you your child itinerary while they were there.

Odds are that you will find that your child fought the process and they had to change thier treatment plan to more suit the combative nature of your child. This may have meant counseling with DIFFERENT people but the goal would have been the same. To assist your child with getting thier lives back on track. And not to put too fine of a point on this BUT....If you have seen a POSITIVE change from your child and they no longer drink and do drugs and act out, why would you take the time to post a negative review WITHOUT actually reviewing his treatment records? It sounds like YOU are ONLY listening to your child and NOT giving the treatment facility the chance or opportunity to address your complaint. You have jumped right online and slandered a reputable business SOLELY on the word of a child.

Now a bit of legal knowledge for you. What you have done with this report CAN get you sued. You have presented YOUR SONS accusations AS FACT. That is wrong and companies are now activly going after people who slander or use character assassination online. You make SURE your information IS CORRECT!!! Because if they wanted to all they would need to do is get a court order and they can prove that YOUR computer wrote this report. NOTHING you do online is anonymous anymore. Everything you do is logged somehow and somewhere. So becareful that your child ISNT just fibbing to you and YOU are over reacting to the situation. YOU wouldnt be the first parent to be snookered by thier own child.
