VW knows its 1.8L Turbo engines are defective - in fact they have ALREADY been sued over a known issue with sludge and yet they are requiring owners who have exceeded their unreasonably limited restrictions on mileage and maintenance requirements to jump through infeasible hoops to get any assistance with repairs.

First - I am 1000 miles over the 120,000 mile limit set by a class action suit that expired 1 year ago!  Under which then I have no coverage. Now VW is saying that they have an unlimited mileage extended warranty, but the parameters are so stringent that I do not know any normal person who could actually meet them.  I have to supply every single maintenance receipt for my vehicle for the 5 years that I have owned it and if I miss even ONE - it disqualifies me. Even the government doesn't require records to be kept longer than 3  years!  They also maintain that owners MUST change their oil every 5000 miles. Well, I have exceeded that a few times - YET I can prove that I have been consistently changing the oil with their specified Oil grade ( which is three times more expensive by the way than regular oil)  I have also put nothing but PREMIUM gasoline in the vehicle.  I have been told that because I have taken such care with my vehicle it is probably the reason that I have been able to drive it longer than most without having this issue.  But now that I do have the issue and am faced with $2500 in repairs on an 8 year old vehicle that I used to love dearly because of the VW brand and the quality that it stood for and VW turns their back on me.  So I get punished for taking better care of my vehicle than many becuase my car actually lasted longer than expected and VW says sorry, oh well!

I hope that anyone else who has one of these vehicles does not get this same treatment.  In addition, perhaps VW will get the hint that this is not acceptable customer/owner support and they should really reconsider this issue and at least meet owners like me half way. If I didn't take care of the vehicle PERFECTLY cut me some slack - at least meet me somewhere - don't turn your back on me. I would have been a VW loyalist forever, but not I will not buy their products and will advise others to do the same.  Sorry VW, I hope YOU have a nice day - mine is ruined.

What?

Engine sludge is caused by not changing the oil often enough.  You admit you didn't change the oil at the recommended interval.  Why are you surprised that you have sludge and that VW refuses to give you a free engine?  Oh, and "premium" gasoline makes absolutely no difference to the engine (unless it specifically requires it, in which case it won't run on any other kind).

Also, changing the oil more often is always good, particularly when the engine gets old.  5K is pretty aggressive for an engine with 120k miles on it.  3000 miles would be better.
