My experience with Voltron Motors has been very frustrating due to the lack of attention to detail with the final product and lack of responsiveness from management.  After paying in full and upfront for my custom Jeep build September 2016 it is still incomplete to date.  Several items listed on the original build sheet are missing and or were not installed as documented. I requested these parts be sent and or reimbursement for the parts and labor not needed but charged for. Electrical work had to be redone due to poor workmanship and I have yet to be reimbursed for the repairs to be completed locally. Several items were not completely painted or prepped properly allowing rust to develop flake off and bubble up in very noticeable places. I have sent several texts and emails to Voltron Motors management in good faith checking on the status of the above issues I am experiencing; I’ll get a response saying they will take care of it and then not hear anything for months.  Just because I’m a simple military member and not a high profile customer/future investor, I would at least expect to receive a product of equivalent build quality and finish and hopefully above average customer service. This is not the level of customer service or build quality I would expect from an up and coming global company touting “Outstanding Quality of Custom Build Work” catering to the elite luxury Jeep community.  Letting a vehicle leave your shop in that state and failing to communicate with your customers, no matter how small in comparison to your other clients, is just plain wrong in the business world and again reflects negatively as to the quality of your products, your company, and those that endorse Voltron Motors

Letter to Voltron Motors; no response to date…

Elite Custom 4X4/Evolution Offroad/Highborn Motorsports/Voltron Motors Team:

I congratulate you on your new found global success!  You have been getting a lot of great press promoting your Jeep products and future non-Jeep products, along with picking up multiple high profile investors.  Your advertisements claim “Outstanding Quality of Custom Build Work.”  Now more than ever, the products you deliver and the customer service that you provide is a direct reflection of the quality of your products, your company, and those that endorse Voltron Motors.

I understand that it was a busy time when I finalized and paid in full for my custom built Jeep back in early September 2016, as it was the day before Tyrese Gibson was coming out to shoot the Rebel Video.  However, just because I’m a simple military member and not a high profile customer/future investor, I would at least expect to receive a product of equivalent build quality and finish and hopefully above average customer service; as these Jeeps are a moving advertisement for Voltron Motors and are often taken to shows or used in local events where hundreds if not thousands of people see the product Voltron Motors delivers.  They get to see up close and personal the build quality, fit and finish and attention to detail that is put out by Voltron Motors.  They ask questions about how and where they can get their own; what the process is like; what was your experience going through the process.  They take pictures and talk about what they have seen and heard on national and international forums, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, and Instagram to name a few.

My experience with Highborn Motorsports, now Voltron Motors has not been a smooth one; and in fact it has been very frustrating due to the lack of attention to detail with the final product and lack of responsiveness from management.  After paying in full and upfront for my custom Jeep build the first week of September of 2016, everything seemed great.  A week later I was told that there would be a 6-8 week delay due to the custom fastback top being a build to order item.  This should have already been conveyed to me when I first came in as this option had been discussed weeks in advance and was supposedly researched for availability before I came out.  I was then assured by both the Sales and Production Engineer that my Jeep would be finished well before the top was to be delivered to the shop and all that would need to be done was to paint the top and install it once it had arrived.

Communication during the build process was pretty expeditious initially and I truly appreciate the accommodations for minor changes along the way.  Two months later the top finally arrives and I am told that it has been painted and installed.  I then ask if the Jeep has been completed, at this point and I am told by management that it is ready to go.  So, I arrange for pickup by a shipping company the second week of November 2016.  The first driver arrives at Voltron Motors to pick up the Jeep and is told it won’t be ready for another day, yet I was not told this by Voltron Motors management and had to find out from the shipping company who is calling me to find out what is going on; and I have no clue, as I can’t reach anyone at Voltron Motors by phone or text.  Another day passes and it still is not ready and I have not heard from anyone at Voltron Motors regarding the issue.  The shipping company cancels the pickup as the driver had other pickups in route.  The shipping company tries to reschedule, but neither of us can reach Voltron Motors.  Finally the shipping company is able to reach them and a pickup is scheduled for the next day.  That day comes and the next driver is denied access to the Jeep again that morning because it still wasn’t ready.  This driver was told it would be ready by the end of the day, however the driver had other vehicles to pick up in route and could not wait that long unless an extra fee was imposed.  The driver had to be recalled already in route to other pickups to Voltron Motors around 7pm to pick up my Jeep.  Voltron Motors did mitigate the pickup charge to finally get it on its way late that night and responded to my messages several hours after receiving them.

The Jeep arrives late in the evening several days later and it is dark and the vehicle fairly dirty so, I can’t really get a good look at everything.  From a distance everything looks great and as expected.  First thing I noticed before pulling it off the truck though, is that one set of the cube LEDs is not working; also that the installed LEDs in the mirrors were wired to the same switch as the fog lights which are illegal to have on at the same time, making the fog lights inoperable on the street.  Once inside on the way home I noticed that the backup camera was not working and that the armrest was not completed as designed and discussed.

When it came time to wash the vehicle and take a closer look at things in the daylight I found the following additional quality control issues:

A.    Missing two paint matched D-rings that were supposed to be installed on the rear bumper

B.     The LED taillights have side markers and each is supposed to have clear sealing caps to keep water out of the casing, there were two missing

C.     The driver’s side hood latch was loose and not adjusted properly

D.    The build sheet calls out a trailer package, mine already had one from the factory, but I could not find the plug receptacle for the trailer harness as there was no bracket holding it.  I finally found the plug under the bumbper zip tied to the vehicle harness well out of reach of most trailer wiring harnesses

E.     There were several scratches on the inside of the rim ring on two of the wheels and you could see where the face of the rims had not been completely painted the new color

F.     There was bare metal showing on the frame of the vehicle where it had been cut to fit the new bumpers in place instead of being painted to prevent future corrosion

G.    On the build sheet it calls out an upgraded Alpine stereo with JL Audio sub in a matching leather enclosure which was supposed to be powered by a 1000 watt amplifier, none of which had been installed nor were any of the speakers upgraded

H.    I had requested that the original UConnect 430 stereo/nav system be returned with the vehicle at shipping and it was not in the vehicle

I.       Two bolts that secure the front of the fastback top were missing and the six rear bolts holding the top in place had not been completely tightened down either allowing severe leaking on to the newly installed leather interior

J.       The new fog lights in the bumper were wired with barley enough wire to reach the lights, the wires stretched out hanging in the open and are in danger of being snapped by any large debris kicked up by the front tires.

After several tries to reach someone at Voltron Motors I was finally able to make contact and I was told that all of the lights were working before it left the shop.   I find that very hard to believe as after troubleshooting the problem myself and with a tech over the phone, come to find out that that set of cubes had been wired completely backwards.  As for the stereo system, supposedly mine came from the factory with the upgraded Alpine speakers so they didn’t upgrade them.  I was offered a $500 refund for the sound system that was never installed.  However, that amount would really only be enough to cover what it would cost for the installation of the speakers, amp, mounting of the sub, and the cost of the wire used in the installation of the sound system. I agreed to the $500 plus the matching leather JL Audio sub enclosure with the mounting hardware used to attach it to the rear door as well; which I am still waiting to receive.  The front top bolts were sent out to me a few weeks later.  I was offered to have the armrest redone to specs and that took four months to get back, after repeatedly ignored text messages (sometimes weeks before any response) and texts back and forth with the upholstery tech, who still didn’t get it right, even after I requested the tech send me a pick before he sent it back for clarification; which obviously did not happen either.

I spent a couple of days on the phone trying to troubleshoot the backup camera issue with a Voltron Motors wiring tech to no avail.  Come to find out that the wiring technician that worked on my Jeep had just recently been let go because of poor workmanship.  I did not have any more time to look into the issue, so I sent it to a local stereo shop to troubleshoot the backup camera and fix the wiring for the LED mirror light switch issue.  The technician pulled out the newly installed stereo head unit and found the wiring had not been connected correctly and was not grounded properly.  Not to mention how poorly the wires were routed and just thrown behind the dash, not wrapped or zip tied in place. He also found that the backup camera was inoperable and a replacement needed to be installed and rerun.  I was charged $273.50 to fix all of the wiring issues and install the replacement camera.  I sent the invoice to Voltron Motors for reimbursement and have yet to receive any compensation.

After driving the Jeep for a couple weeks in the weather, aside for the leaking roof I noticed that the back side of the Poison Spyder rock slider plates had not been painted and were both developing significant rust.  The detail paint on the hood latches had flaked off on both latches. Now the paint on the new custom grill is starting to bubble in several places.

Most recently I spoke with one of the wiring techs about what I was still missing and emailed him and the owner the detailed list below:

  • Two (2) Painted (Navy) D-Rings

  • Trailer Light Wiring Harness Bracket

  • Two (2) Rear Tail Light Side-Marker Caps-clear keep water from entering the tail light housing; two are currently installed four are meant to be installed

  • JL Audio 10” Sub installed in Matching Interior Diamond-Stitched Leather Enclosure w/Mounting Hardware

  • Refund Check for the cost of stereo components not installed (component speakers, tweeters, sub amp, and sub amp wiring), installation labor ($500), plus cost paid out to CarToys ($273.50) to rewire deck and replace/rewire inoperable back-up camera; totaling $773.50

  • Original UConnect 430 Stereo which included NAV…speaking of NAV, the stereo you guys added is supposed to have NAV, looks like it is missing the AVIC-U260 navigation module which enables that feature

  • AVIC-U260 Navigation Module

  • Lime Green Touch-up Paint for hood latches and back sides of the rock sliders

Note that the above list is not a comprehensive list addressing all of the quality control issues. Over the past month and a half, April-June 2017, I have sent several texts to Voltron Motors management in good faith, checking on the status of the above missing items listed on the original build sheet and for any resolution to the paint issues I am experiencing; I have yet to receive any response.  This is not the level of customer service or build quality I would expect from an up and coming global company touting “Outstanding Quality of Custom Build Work” catering to the elite luxury Jeep community.  Letting a vehicle leave your shop in that state and failing to communicate with your customers, no matter how small in comparison to your other clients, is just plain wrong in the business world and again reflects negatively as to the quality of your products, your company, and those that endorse Voltron Motors.

Put yourself in my position, would you be completely satisfied with your Voltron Motors experience or any other company for that matter and have nothing but good things to say; or not be frustrated with the way you have been treated and the product you received given what has transpired since September 2016 during this process? Now I would love to have people come up to me asking about my Jeep and be able to proudly say; “Yeah this is a Voltorn Motors Jeep, as seen in the latest Fast and Furious movie, at SEMA and other major auto shows across the country, check out the fabulous build quality and craftsmanship.  You should go check out their website and the YouTube videos of Tyrese promoting them in Vegas and Dubai”…  Please send me the missing items, address the concerns listed above and provide a solution to my bubbling paint issues so we can put this behind us and you can have another completely satisfied Voltron Motors customer.
