Do not sign up for Volusion's in-house merchant services. They tout an easy application and a 2.17% rate, but this is very deceiving. The big picture is the fact that 50-80% of your processing will incur extra charges because of reward cards. Our effective rate with volusion was almost 4% after all fees and extra charges.

It's crazy. But most people just do not think that this confusing issue or they think this is standard. You need to get an interchange rate. It was easy enough to move away from volusion - although they will hit you with a termination fee of like $99 (well saved in the first month). I just assumed the rate I was getting was 'fair' or standard. I promise it is NOT. Our volume is only $300k per year. We switched and compared new services from Fee Fighters. We are now saving about $500-600 a month. So you're savings will be more or less based on your charges.

This company is more interested in trying to sell extra services than continuing to work on the cart. They are slow to implement changes and just worry about extra revenue streams.

Also, do not register your website with volusion. It is impossible to get it away from them. We battled with them for a month before just leaving it and changing the nameservers. This means the site is still registered with them but 'points' to a different cart.

We do get support emails answered quick with volusion, but they are more the kind of answers to just complete the task and not really help. The only positive really is that the volusion cart itself is very versatile. Just do not fall for their scammy merchant services and think you are getting a good deal.
