Adding my experience with von falconer

A year ago, I was looking for a german shepherd and my coworker recommended me to them. I check out their website and knowing they work with law enforcement and train police dog and i feel confident at them so email them scheduling an appointment to check out some of their puppies.

At the time i request for a best temperament puppy since this is our first dog.  When we get their, bryan showed us 4 months old puppy, smells so bad, cover with poops and very high energy.  I'm okay with the dog since it has long coat and looks friendly, but the bad smell and the size at already at 4-5 months, i would prefer to start with a puppy from 8 weeks and watch him grow.

So they bring out another puppy, and there's nothing wrong with it, but i just don't like the color of it.   So i ask if we can see the whole litter of all our puppies so we can choose.  But they said that's all they got all this time, we pursue me and keep telling me to get the first dog.  I tell him i'll go home and think about it since i kind of like the first dog too.

So the next few days, i ask him more detail of the first dog, like pedigree of the parents, health cert on the parents and etc..... They didn't email me back any info , i email back a few times continue to request for those info, but they are unable to provide.   At this point, i know this is not the right place for me.  

By paying $1200-1500 for a pet quality puppy, most breeder should be able to provide pedigree of parents, all the ofa health certs, and they should have temperament evaluated on the puppies.  I'm not saying their dogs are bad, but i just don't know where their dogs came from.  If anyone should buy a dog from them, i would highly recommend you should ask fully for any paper and pedigree.   

We bought our GSD from Von Falconer eleven years ago.  I think that while Von Falconer may be somewhat erratic, he breeds incredible dogs.  Our girl Zoe was, simply put, stunning.  I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful dog.  She was very healthy and had the temperament promised.  She was so incredibly loving and loyal, the perfect companion.  My son was just a year old when we got her and she watched over him like a second mother.  Every night she would station herself by the front door, knowing she had to guard the house.  We never trained her to do this.

With that said, Zoe was a handful as a puppy, but from what I know about the breed, that is pretty common.  She required consistent training and many opportunities to burn off energy.  But, when her needs were met, she was just fine.  It took a long time to teach her to walk on a leash, but that had more to do with my inexperience than her inability.  Now you can buy these harnesses that prevent pulling and can reign in the most determined dog.  

Zoe ended up being the neighborhood therapy dog. One she was four, I went back to work full time.  One neighbor asked if he could walk her and have her as company during the day.  Another wanted to walk her every evening.  My mother also wanted to steal her from me. 

My experiences with Von Falconer himself were not the best.  We felt he was somewhat flakey and erratic. For example, he gave us a time to come by the facility to get Zoe, then changed the time as we were 1/2 way there (a70 mile trek).  We also had a problem with a pick up when we boarded our dog with him.  In both cases we were able to resolve the confusion directly with Von Falconer.  He was weird but responsive and responsible.  He never sent us her papers, but we never followed up either.

After getting my own GSD from Von Falconer, I just wanted to add my own observations to the original complaint.

The dog we bought is an intense, high drive GSD. When we went to see the puppies we told staff that we wanted a family pet and companion. Being inexperienced about choosing a puppy, we went with the one that felt right for us. Now an adult dog, the GSD we bought is one of the most beautiful GSDs I've ever seen and receive many compliments.  Looking back I feel that the staff at Von Falconer's should have picked out a pup for us, knowing their individual temperaments and history of their parents. Our dog has needed an extensive and intensive amount of training to get to the level we are at. I've owned three dogs prior to this one, 2 non-GSD's and one GSD mix. Never did they need the level of training I've had to do with this dog.

I've met another owner with a high drive dog from them. I've also met a really sweet dog with a calmer temperament from out of our same litter and randomly someone on a hike in Carmel that had an easy, calm off leash dog from Von Falconer, they are out there.

As the original complaint stated, the paperwork was incorrect. We never received our AKC papers, so I do believe there is some sloppy business practice in that area.

So after a few years of experience and talking to other GSD owners, a good breeder should be able to pick out the right dog for you, even tell you to wait for another litter if they know their current pups are not suitable for you. You, as the consumer should read about the different types of GSD's. There are working stock, American and European show lines, all with different qualities. So I just wanted to write this to help educate any other potential consumers of Von Falconer.

I'm curious if the poster above is capable of reading english well enough to understand a contract, based on their publishing of this comment with more misspellings than a preschool spelling class. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Von Falconer and their contract is straightforward and very simple to read.

As a business owner,ERIC VON FALCONER is being resposible and willing to listen to buyers directly,he cares how consumers feel and will make effort to satisfy buyers and solve the problem with them positively.
