We leased a 2012 CC for 36 months. Paid it through and decided to get another car at the end, but NOT another VW.

We returned the car at the same car dealership we leased it from. The lease allowance was 36,000 miles, and we returned it with much less than that, the car was about  24,000 miles when we dropped the car off.

Months later we received a letter from VW credit saying that we owned more than $900 in fees, and they are threathing us in sending it to collection.

They are charging us for a $300 retuning fee, which is waved if you get a new VW, in other words, a ransom fee.

They are charging us for a second key, something that we never got in the 1st place, we even have a letter from the dealer stating that!

And they are also charging us for TIRES! They are saying we returned the car with less than 1/3 of the threads in the tires!

If we only drove 24,000 miles, how come the tires threads are worn? We even got a bunch of pictures showing the tires were fine.

We will fight it! Media and all! We can't be held hostages by this dishonest! company.

this is not my 1st lease and we know what to expect

Robert

1st of all, we leased cars from Mazda, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Acura, Infinity, and even Porsche! None of them charges for a return fee, so, answering your question, no we didnt wait 36 months to complain about the fee, bcs it was never brought up when signing the lease, and since we never heard of such stupid thing it never cross my mind to ask if there was such fee. In other words, WE DID NOT KNOW ABOUT IT UNTIL TOO LATE.

second, our tires are supposed to last up to 80,000 miles, being 60,000 miles the least expected. So we were not even close to get half of the life expectance of the treads.

3rd, we returned the car to the same dealership we got it from, bcs there was the second key issue, since we had a letter stating that THEY never gave us the key on the 1st place ( when we signed this d**n deal) we though would be prudent to return it to the same place.

Like I said, there was no inspector available to inspect the car and sign off on the return, therefore, it is our word against them.

My 2 cents; DO NOT EVER LEASE A CAR FROM VW!

We did not know about the $300 returning fee for one, and wear and tear are to be expected.

We always lease our cars, and NEVER ever we encontered this kind of problem before...sure we were charged for dents repair on our previous cars, but never tires or return fee. We leased mazdas, bmw, audis, mercedes, infinity, acuras and even posrches, and this is the 1st time we got this stinking surprise.

Welcome To The World Of The CAR FLEASE!

The $300 bogus, add-on, phony fee was in the contract.  Just because it was there, does NOT legitimize the FACT its a phony fee.  The con-game about the tires is again a part of the slimy CAR FLEASE world.  When you got into this HORRIBLE DEAL, you agreed in advance to a BLANK CHECK which means you agree to pay for whatever charges for "wear and tear" they can think up or con you with.  Their congame is you will pay for the new tires, they will keep that money and either sell the car at the auction or on their used car lot...WITH...the old tires.  Its a complete and total FRAUD.  As you can see, no matter what they tell you, the CAR FLEASE is a very bad deal.  There is much more profit in a CAR FLEASE as compared to a purchase and that additional profit comes from the one they FLEASED, which in this case is you.  Please, do not ever again get into a CAR FLEASE because YOU are the one who gets SHEARED.

Ripoff?

Hard to say if EVERYTHING is a RipOff

1. The $300 "return fee".  Okay was that "ransom fee" in the lease you signed?  If so, and you had a problem with it that was the time to address it...not 36 months later when you are returning the car.

2. Missing 2nd key.  Okay, when you told them this and showed them the letter from the dealer what did they say?

3. Tire wear.  Most likely your tires were 36,000 mile tires, so 2/3 of tire use would be about 24,000.  So the question is again what did the lease say about tires?  Were you required to return them with a specific tread depth, and did you do that?  I am not just talking about having pictures that say they look fine...I am talking about a measured use compared to the lease agreement?
