I do admit i overdrafted, but by 41 dollars. Why am I having to pay $390 in fees? That's just ridiculous!! I shouldnt have to pay $35 for an overdraft of $1.36!! I was overdrafted so much that I now cant afford to pay for my SAT's or my car insurance. They offered my 25% back but my paycheck didnt even cover my debt! PLEASE HELP!

Get Your Money Back

AUTHOR: Clev - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 09, 2008

As usual I see the bank employees are "piling on" to consumers complaining about excessive overdraft charges.

To the poster I would like to make clear that you are in "very good company" because highly educated professionals (including a lawyer making $8K/month) have been similarly "dinged" by these excessive overdraft charges. So much so that there is a congressional subcommittee working on legislation to get this problem under control. There are also external consumer advocacy agencies working on this issue, most notably the Center for Responsible Lending. You can go to their website and submit a complaint to your member of congress.

But perhaps the most effective thing you can do is take Wachovia to small claims court:

The documentary OVERDRAWN tells the story of Karney Hatch (the filmmaker) who took Wells Fargo to small claims court over excessive overdraft charges. Not only did Wells Fargo return all his money, they also paid his court costs.

The story has been recently published in the Chicago Tribune: Google on the following terms separated by an '&' symbol - 'chicago tribune', 'overdraft fees' & hatch.

Quoting Karney Hatch: 'They get a million complaints a day from people calling the 800-number line, but Small claims court tends to get their attention.'

Best of luck and don't let the "banking bullies" keep you from telling your story.

That's 10 overdrafts, not one.

You can't even keep your own story straight within a few sentences

"I do admit i overdrafted, but by 41 dollars"
"I shouldnt have to pay $35 for an overdraft of $1.36"

Big difference between those 2 numbers but you were welllll overdrawn to have 10 fee applications regardless.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Stop with the complaints about NSF fees!!

AUTHOR: Meow-ta - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, May 09, 2008

I would ask that Ripoff Report cease allowing individuals from posting about NSF fees where they admit freely having spent money they don't have, or spent money before it's in their account and CLEARED.

The fees charges should be renamed "Money Mismanagement Fees", not NSF fees.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You can't spend money you don't have.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 08, 2008

Before you take your SAT's please brush up on basic math.

You can't spend money you don't have. If you had kept a valid accounting(check register) of your purchases you would not have gone over, because you would have known that you no longer had $1.36 in your account to spend. I seriously doubt you would have thought that that item you bought was worth the extra $39 bucks it ended up costing you.

If you have trouble keeping records then look into overdraft protection on your account. Having this is a lot cheaper than sometimes even a single overdraft fee.
