I registered for a PHD program in learning management systems. I went to walden for about 2.5 Years and accrued around 100 credits. Due to the economy I had to work more so I took a leave of absence for aboutb1.5 yrs. I had to go through advisor in order to come back to school. she was the person that advised me that my program was cancelled and there were no alternatives. I am now left with a 100,000 st loan with no degree.

Thanks for taking the time to write a comment.  From my perspective as a "non-academia" individual it is not common knowledge to know that after a year of absence the catalog supercedes previous degrees.  In addition, what ever happened to "common courtesy", or, "customer service".  I spent over $100,000 with this University while I attended for almost 3 years.  Do you think that the "right" thing for them to do would be to email, call, or write me that the status of the program was changing?  I know that ignorance of the rules doesn't make me not-guilty, however, if this was my customer, I would have reached out to them.  This is just another example of the non-caring, non student-focused service I received while attending the school.

I am no fan of Walden, but you have to be fair.  It's an accepted practice in higher education that a student who returns to school after an absence of one year or more is accepted for enrollment under the current catalog. So if the program was dropped while you were not enrolled, that's on you.

It would be a different story if you were continuously enrolled. In that case, they would have to present a teach-out option for all students in that program. Otherwise, their accrediting body would be slamming them.

I'm sorry this happened to you.
