Walgreens Pharmacy has a minimum charge for percription drugs. I think everyone should find a drug store that will help keep our bills down. I fill my prescription at rite aid for 19 years but they are closing. So I went to Walgreens . I filled a prescription that ALWAYS cost me 3.50. But at Walgreens 11.95. So I asked why because I have no bones about someone or a company making money but if 14 other locations are at 3.50 In my area, not too wise! It is just time to speak up. With all of our health care coverages in limbo why this fodder for the most discussed topic in our community today. NOT TOO SMART... Watch out for companies taking advantage of us... Walgreens , a nice place to shop in San Fernando Valley Ca. CVS is opening a brand new store 2 blocks away... They got me hope you all take another look at leaving them too.

CVS does the same thing

The 11.95 charge is called a dispensing fee. Walgreens charges a minimum of 11.95 cash price for every drug. They have to make money. You forget that they not only have to pay for the drug itself, but also pay the pharmacist and the technicians, in addition to paying for the bottle, the lid, the labels, the computer system, and the electricity. It costs walgreens money simply to operate. True that some drugs are more expensive than others, but there are some drugs that Walgreens actually loses money on, especially when insurance is involved. If the drug is being sold to you for 11.95, chances are that if you sign up for the walgreens card, it will be much cheaper than that. I'm almost 100% positive that stores like CVS also do the same thing. The only stores that sell drugs for 4 dollars are Walmart and the grocery chains. The difference between Walgreens and those is that Walgreens makes its money off of it's pharmacy, not it's front end store. So if the pharmacy isn't making money, then the store will go under. The grocery stores and Walmart use their pharmacies as loss leaders just to get people in the store. They don't care if they lose money in their pharmacy.
Just food for though

If you are insured, many of the copays for Walgreens prescriptions come out to less than $11.99...plenty are $0.00.
If you are uninsured, you can get a 90-day supply on over 400 generics for only $12 (breaks down to $4/month).

Why not just go to one of the other locations if it is just that store?
