I went to the Wal-Mart Automotive department recently to have my oil changed. Well, I knew something was funny when #1 they didn't even ask me what oil change service I would like, and #2 after they were "done" with my car, the man who "changed" the oil said "You already had about half amount of oil in there" and that was it....so I left there thinking, "so did you actually change it or not?" because I actually paid for it so I would sure hope so!!

Well 1 and 1/2 months later my car starts making this clicking noise. My husband listens to it and decides to check the oil, BONE DRY!!!!!! This was 1 and a half months after I had my "oil changed"!!!! So my husband immediately takes it to Wal-mart, which wasn't the original one we had gone to the first time to have the oil changed, and it was a little after 7:00 and they were closed. We were lucky and the automotive manager, was still there and even though it was past 7:00, he stayed to help my husband check the oil again, and what did the automotive service manager say?? "WOW, THAT IS BONE DRY".

He even looked at the sticker they put in your car after each oil change, just to make sure we were up to date and saw that we were. He apologized for the other location's mess up and said he would make some phone calls to the store manager in the White Settlement location and would get us a free oil change and said they would be liable for any damages and assured us that there were cameras in the service garage. He was very helpful and repeatedly apologized for the other store's mistake.

Well the next morning, my husband went to the location who screwed up/failed to do the oil change, and they said they would have to file a claim with their insurance before they were able to do anything with it....No sorry for the inconvience, nothing. Finally a couple of weeks later, a man by the name of TRAVIS GATES, CASE MANAGER II from CMI, CLAIMS MANAGEMENT, INC. and leaves my husband a message asking me to call him back. The next day, my husband calls him back as he had the day off and I was working. No answer.

My husband leaves a message asking him to call him back....a few days had gone by, nothing. So, my husband calls TRAVIS again and leaves yet another message, this time telling him it was very important he call him back asap as there may be damage to our vehicle....about 5 days go by and still no call back. So I decide to call this TRAVIS character and had to leave yet ANOTHER MESSAGE asking him to call me back....4 or 5 days later, still no call back. So by now, as expected, I was pretty upset over the whole deal so I call TRAVIS back AGAIN and this time, left him a message asking him to either call me back, or let me know who I needed to speak with as this case was not being handled.

On TRAVIS' voicemail he stated he was currently unavailable, but we could call his associate if it was an emergency. So I call this man (I cannot remember his name at this time, but I will find out) and had to leave him ANOTHER MESSAGE!!!!!! No returned call. So, 3 weeks later, my husband calls this TRAVIS again and of course he was "unavailable" (must be nice to not ever have to work) so he calls his "associate" and leaves him ANOTHER message.

Well the associate finally calls my husband back, with attitude, and informs my husband that "we reviewed the tapes and they did change the oil, so walmart cannot be held liable for any damages". My husband is very irritated at this point and asks this "associate" if he can review the tape himself and the man tells my husband "probably not, we want to repect the privacy of the employees and customers". BULL! They leave those dang garage doors WIDE OPEN all day long while servicing cars and as for the "customers" they shouldn't be in the garage at all!!

Needless to say, this is FAR from over. I am very tired of people messing with people's personal items and getting away with it just because some "CASE MANAGER" who is working on behalf of Wal mart, says they have done nothing wrong! Well of course they are going to say that! We have obtained a lawyer and started the process of a lawsuit. Oh and about the little tape they are so protective of, why are they so scared to let my husband see it if they were doing what they were supposed to???

We WILL be obtaining that tape, sorry to tell him that. I have heard numerous horror stories about wal-mart's automotive center, even my sister went and had her oil changed (at a different wal mart location) and a month later, she found her oil was bone dry. I only went to walmart because I was very tired and it was on my way home. I will NEVER EVER go to that h*ll hole again! I believe that they thought just because I was a woman, I wouldn't know any better....well guess again!!

Don't Trust Anyone?

AUTHOR: ARIESHEART - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, January 21, 2012

I would not trust anyone to work on my car, even if it's just an oil change.Walmart will never admit fault anything they did.You just have to suck it up and move on!Unfortunately, you do not have any supporting evidence on your claim. My friends, many years ago,had this type of incident and decided to eat up the loss. That's too bad!!!!!Just remember that doing business with Walmart is at your own risk.

WAIT A MINUTE!! MADMAMA?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!!

Listen, madmama. You don't have to type a thing. Next time you're in front of the mirror, however, you won't be able to avoid being honest about at least one thing: Your word isn't worth squat. Don't kid yourself, madmama. Your word reflects the integrity of yourself as a human being. And you just broke it. If you feel that's no big deal, then don't open your mouth when someone does it to you.

And now, madmama, the reason you are reading this and hesitate responding is for the same reason that you had an absurd babbling breakdown. That being, you are completely and utterly ashamed of yourself. You could, of course, redeem yourself by calmly and respectfully admitting that, though you're really not 100% convinced, you may have jumped to conclusions. I mean, it's no big deal. You always have the sanctuary of your monitor to hide behind. No one can even see you blushing. And if you feel that you can pretend that you never did this, remember one thing. You can't. Everywhere you go and have an inkling of the irrational outburst like you've had here, there will be people physically in your presence that will look at you with thoughts ranging from disgust to pity.

We'll allow you, though, to continue to be a stubborn jerk. Just accept the fact that we were right. Some of us may even sympathsize over your shame and hope this will have taught you a valuable lesson. If you allow this lesson to be wasted in vain, what might that say about the integrity of your marraige or you as a role model to your daughter?

Why exactly was your daughter screaming, MADmama?

Tell you what, madmama. I formally apologize for everything inappropriate I've said. Would you ever be willing to do the same? You can start with the guy doing oil changes at Walmart. He, or someone like him, could be your daughter's father-in-law one day. And you really wouldn't want your daughter to one day be married to someone that talks like you have here. Do you?

You are going after the wrong people

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

NOTHING WRONG WITH MY AUTOMOBILE! My car has been cleared of ALL possible issues that could have caused oil to "disappear" out of my car! Also, my engine was not ruined thank goodness, so I will not be suing for those damages because I caught it in time.

-
Okay you are right and everyone else who actually knows about cars and engines are wrong.

So why are you even getting your oil changed?  Since you apparently are proof that a car can run with the engine being "BONE DRY" with absolutely no damage to the engine.

Who knew that the entire auto industry was running this giant scam that you have uncovered.  After all they have everyone else convinced that you need to have your oil changed, and to never let your oil level get low.  They even perpetuate this scam by putting a warning light and/or gauges in the dashboard.

You need to take a stand..you need to get the word out of this giant scam.  In fact you should take the first move and go to your "Master Mechanic" and tell them you just want the oil drained because you know that a car can still run without issues if it is "BONE DRY".  If they refuse then continue to look until you find a mechanic who has not been bought off by this huge conspiracy.

Fight On :)

And, finally, this unstable complainer has left in shame...supposedly.

AUTHOR: seeworthy - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, January 19, 2012

Wow...what a mouth that madmama has! (She reminds me of that Ashley on Hardcore Pawn, if you're familiar with that telivision show.) Irrational from the start and concluding (hopefully) with a mental breakdown display. If madmama was still here, I'd reiterate this question, "madmama, do you agree that we all come across irrational individuals that spew nonsense from their mouths? Is it no coincidence that their irrational logic is also typically followed up with emotional absurdities? So exactly how, madmama, do you differ from people like that? Oh wait, madmama's not here to answer. Since slander behind another's back is a sin, maybe I'd better bite my tongue...or fingers. OR WAIT....hi madmama! There you are! You chose to read this and future posts in silence. Great...now I can continue directing this post to you.

You are an example (don't fret too much, we're all susceptable to a degree) of a person that is victim of your own ignorance. The problem arises when you blame other's for your own ignorance. What's worse, is you believe that hypocritically insulting other's and yelling somehow proves a point? All that accomplishes, when reducing themselves to that behavior, is to show everyone around that you indeed have a serious inferiority complex. After that meltdown post of yours which daftly illustrated to everyone what you really are, I'm sure you'll reciprocate fairly in allowing me to express my opinion. Even if we disagree, we're both entitled to our own opinions. Right?

There's a person here named Charles that also responded. He didn't seem to be really expressing any facts regarding this complaint, but rather about his objection to people questioning his intelligence. He seemed to be more obsessed with defending himself about something other than this specific issue. Another response above suggested Charles might be a person that just likes to wander around in this site because of some personality disorder. It's just again odd that you accuse people of inappropriately using this site if they disagree with yourself, but then condone Charles for inappropriately using this site when not agreeing with other's, even while Charles used questionable ethics in his use of this site that you accused everyone else of using. Fact is, you'll get these opinions (some are arguably facts) from people in a face-to-face conversation about this same incident. This site doesn't change that one iota.

It's great that your engine wasn't ruined. It must have baffled those master mechanics as to how a bone dry engine could have operated for more than a few seconds without permanently seizing up, as in the piston rings would have welded themselves to the cylinder walls. Even if it had a "trace" of oil, the oil pump pickup tube would be sucking air. Did your multiple master mechanics put you at ease over the tapping sound your engine was making? They didn't by chance tell you that the low oil level wasn't generating enough pressurize for your hydraulic lifters and pump oil up the the rocker rod core causing rocker tapping on the valve stems, did they? Oh...oh...you forgot to ask what the tapping was because you weren't worried about it. Oh...ok.

And madmama? You never did explain why you insisted that there was no oil change with your half filled crankcase when you left...then said it was actually bone dry...then said it wasn't bone dry buy actually had a trace. What was it then? All of the above? You never did recite that answer those master maechanics would have explained. Gee...kinda makes one wonder about these "master mechanics" of yours. When asked about the irrational discrepancy, your response unfortunately appeared to be a very desperate and unstable backlash followed by a convenient bailout on your part. Interesting.

Guess we'll never really know why there was no warning light or gauge indication that it was bone dry...no wait...half full...no wait...a little oil being burned off then it was bone dry....no wait... it came on at the last second when it got bone dry...no wait...Charles is my buddy...no wait...byebye. All while actually further losing credibility during you uncontrollable and persistent nervous laughter.

Personally, I can calmly and politely state that I will never have Walmart change my oil. I can also state thate the overwhelming odds are that Walmart oil changers have a better head on their shoulders than some of their looney tune customers. But that's just my opinion which, in madmama's uncooth opinion, I'm not allowed.

Check engine light for low oil??

AUTHOR: o0Nighthawk0o - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 19, 2012

The check engine light DOES NOT light for low oil level. There is a special warning light for that, or in the case of newer cars with text displays, a warning message for low oil. If this light did not come on then the OP may have been low on oil but not "Bone Dry" as she says. Check engine lights normally have to be diagnosed with a code reader or some such to get the error from the computer to find the cause of the light.

And by the way, I am NOT an auto mechanic but I do know what indicator lights are in my vehicle and what each means if/when it lights up.

To the OP, instead of berating the others here, why not do a bit of research and find out what would happen to your car if it was run truly 'bone dry' of oil. While your at it, get your owners manual for your car out and educate yourself on what indicators are there, what they mean and recommended maintenance you need to do to keep your car in as good of shape as possible.

I'm so delighted to see you came back that I'm going to overlook Charles's uncalled for, nasty name calling towards me and send him renewed blessings for a wonderful year.

Your engine wasn't destroyed? That's because you never had any such thing happen as a bone dry crank case.  The only bone dry crank case here is your brain.

And being retarded is far better than being stupid, which you are, because retarded just means learning slower while stupid NEVER LEARNS.

So not only does she blame others for her mistakes, she refers to those that *do* know what they are doing as "retarded," "grease monkey," etc. Shows a lot about her character. I don't know squat about cars, but judging by her "diarrhea of the mouth," it is pretty obvious you guys had her pegged at the get-go.

LMAO! ASE Certified Mechanic 260, I didn't read half of your little cut and paste project, as it was so retarded and lame I couldn't take it. If I wanted to be a dirty a*s grease monkey like you, I would of dropped out of high school, got my GED and would of went to DEVRY University! You act like being ASE is something so great....all you have to do is be a mechanic aka dirty grease monkey for at least 2 years and then you qualify to take a test....with a 98% pass rate LOL! So unless you are declared mentally retarded by a physician, you can pretty much pass that test! Dumb a*s! You think you are some big bad ASE certified supervisor, when really all you are is a useless grease monkey in a bad pep boys or WALMART outfit, who sits on his fat ugly a*s in a disgusting piece of s**t office, bossing your fellow rough necks around. You wouldn't be good enough to lick the dirt off of my high-heels you rough neck, useless piece of trash! And when did I claim to be a car expert????? All I said is this is what happened with my car, which BY THE WAY ALL OF YOU MAROONS AKA MORONS has now been seen by 2 MASTER MECHANICS, do you know what that is ASE???? LOL! Anywho, as of yesterday, the SECOND MM told me yesterday there was NOTHING WRONG WITH MY AUTOMOBILE! My car has been cleared of ALL possible issues that could have caused oil to "disappear" out of my car! Also, my engine was not ruined thank goodness, so I will not be suing for those damages because I caught it in time. So really, they owe me a free oil change, but you have to be kidding me if you think I am taking my car to that dump again! My lesson has been learned, I WILL NEVER EVER GO TO GET MY OIL CHANGED AT WALMART AGAIN! Also, I will no longer post anything on rip off report because it seems to only attract idiots who have nothing else better to do than sit their usless asses at the computer and talk s**t to innocent people. You are all pathetic, with the exception to Charles who had the balls to stand up to you idiots, morons, YES MORONS, not "maroons". We/I am an adult and choose to use words out of websters, not some childish "urban dictionary" LOL! What a joke! Anyways, you can all go to hell, or ASE you can go back to your office aka "the sweat shop" LOL! and move on to a different post because this one is done, unless you keep being immature and continue to "name call" on my post. I will no longer reply as I have nothing more to say to any of you, or those pieces of trash at the walmart automotive department. ASE CERTIFIED, WHAT A JOKE LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Bye bye now losers! Hello Steve.

AUTHOR: seeworthy - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 18, 2012

I agree with Steve. It would be nice to have a dedicates 'idiot light' for oil pressure. In most cars, however, that light may indicate many issues such as low oil pressure, catalytic convertor flow, alternator output, oxygen mixture, etc. Regardless, when that light glows, immediate diagnoses is recommended. Not including the gas gauge, cars also typically have two gauges. One for coolant temperature and one for oil pressure. If an typical engine has three quarts in it, it will run fine (as lonng as you don't take it to the track to get your 0-60 seconds are). The gauge needle should, in this OP's case, would have also indicated a lower than normal pressure (if she had a gauge).

Those gauges and lights aren't there to just make your car look really cool. The driver of any car should monitor them periodically to know their engine is operating both safely and properly. It appears, in any and every scenario that this OP has stated, that she was not doing so.

This case aside for a moment, isn't it sad how people so often blame other's for their own errors?

ASE Certified Technician adds his 2 cents...

AUTHOR: ASE-Mechanic 260 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Besides being an ASE Certified Automibile Technician for almost 15 years now, I am also the manager of a "local chain", and have had the pleasure of dealing with these types of complaints.

#1 I DO NOT, NOR HAVE I EVER WORKED FOR WALMART

That being said, I'm willing to take of my "mechanic's hat" for a minute, and grab the old "management hat"....because this is what this situation is all about..

Well, maybe not MANAGEMENT as much as in LAW.

Mitagate Damages
In Tort Law mitigation of damages refers to conduct by the plaintiff that, although not constituting a civil wrong itself, may reduce the plaintiff's recovery. It is required by tort law that once any damages, or , potential damages are discovered by the plantiff, that they (plantiff) take any and all usual and/or customary steps to either; a) stop the damages from become greater, or; b) stop the damages from occuring at all.

If you throw everything else out the window, this is what will make you lose your case.  AFTER your husband was informed by the other walmart of the problem, this is where you needed to MITAGATE YOUR DAMAGES.  What you should have done was leave the car in that walmarts care, or better yet, demand they tow it to the other walmart (which they would have had to pay for had you won your case), BUT, the second that engine was started after being warned by that 2nd walmart manager, you continued and/or cause the damages to your vehicle!

Im no lawyer, but follow me on how easy this is.

"Your honor, by the plantiff's own admission, Mr. Madmama started the car and drove away AFTER being warned by the manager @ xyz walmart that there was a problem. We contend (walmart) that the damage to Mrs. Madmamma's engine occured @ that point, and from there after....and furthermore, we contend that Mr. & Mrs. Madmamma connot PROVE that there was any damage before that point, and, since they FAILED TO MITAGATE THEIR DAMAGES,  we (walmart) cannot be held liable from any further damages cause by Mr & Mrs Madmamma's negligence in having their potential engine damage evaluated immedaitly!"

See how easy that was.

p.s. OP, your dead wrong about your "car knowledge"...maybe even dangerously so.....please stop posting like you have this unfathomable knowledge of the modern internal combustion engine (that was my "mechanic's hat")...your just making your self look ________________ . I'm not sure the "check engine" light has anything to do with the oil pressure/level..

AUTHOR: Steve - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

I always thought it had to do with general system problems, and that the oil pressure light was its own thing, since that is SUCH an important issue that you need to be "super alerted".  Is this not the case? I'd sure as hell want a separate warning light with a loud buzzer if I was driving without oil, vs the "check engine" light which can turn on for a bazzilion unimportant reasons.

The OP, madmama, can not even keep her story consistent.

AUTHOR: seeworthy - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Has this OP, madmama, embarassed enough to intentionally change her complaint as she has? Or could it be that she is so irrational that she doesn't realize she has done so?

In her initial complaint, she clearly has a problem with the mechanic saying, "You already had about half amount of oil in there." That comment, in all logic, was the mechanic informing the OP that she should be concerned as her car had burned a half a tank of oil before bringing it in. So, madmama, when you left Walmart after the service, was the actually oil half full or actually bone dry. You have stated BOTH.

Why did the OP first accuse Walmart of doing no oil change at all, and then sending her off with a half filled crankcase of used oil? Then she follows up with, "There obviously was "some" oil in there, [but] just enough to get me by until it burned off." So is the OP's claim that they did nothing, or that they drained your crankcase and gave it back to you empty? The first claim would explain no immediate check-engine light; the second claim would have that check-engine light blazing the moment she started the engine after paying for the change. Though impossible, madmama claims both.

It takes no automotive genius to ask: If your oil is half full, where did the rest go is six weeks? It also doesn't take a genius to wonder: If I get my car back with a only a "trace" of oil in it, wouldn't my check-engine light be lit right away? It would take a rather unstable person with questionable intelligenge to ask this third question: But can't both happen at the same time? The latter is exactly what madmama is insisting has happened.

The check-engine light and it's sensor serve a purpose. No matter how many times one tries to reiterate what should be common sense, this OP just doesn't have what it takes to get this. If the check-engine light wasn't lit when leaving Walmart, then there was atleast a half full crankcase of oil (new or used). Later, when the check-engine light lit, there would still be atleast a half filled crankcase of oil, obviously more than a trace. When the light first comes on, there is still sufficient motor oil to safely drive the car under normal conditions, but immediate attention is recommended. What would be the point of an oil warning light if, when it first illuminates, it is only informing the driver that the engine is bone dry and junk?

When allowed to, it is common for older worn engines to burn through a full crankcase of oil in six weeks. Burn...as in out the tail pipe with no signs of leaks. What madmama has done is nothing more than this: After being advised by the service individual that her car had already burned half the oil, she then chooses to blame the service facility when her car continued to burn the new oil. By falsely accusing the service tech, she was simply shooting the messenger.

So, again, not so nice lady, did you leave with a half full crankcase or just a trace of oil? Why did your check-engine light only light up the moment it was bone dry? Obviously, you will be bringing your next vehicle to another service station in the future. Have you even contacted that new service station to ask for their advice on your problem? No? Why the heck not? Would you really rather be hypocritically facitious with a bunch of "geniuses" here, while chumming up with obviously a true genius named Charles? What ever you choose is certainly your prerogative but, thus far, you are seemingly becoming more....odd.

You just insist they didn't change your oil. You probably didn't understand whatever the mechanic told you. Of course they changed your oil, you moron! What the mechanic was probably trying to drill into your illiterate skull was that you only had about half the oil in there you were supposed to have, BEFORE he did the change.

HE WAS WARNING YOU YOU'RE BURNING OIL, YOU STUPID FARM BOVINE!

And frankly, for all his reputation here, I'd lock myself in a room for a month with Charles without batting an eyelash, if the alternative was spending even 5 minutes in one with you!

He has sense enough not to go to Walmart for car service, but in this case they did no wrong and even gave you a valuable warning. But you didn't even have the sense to take that obvious warning that your car was using far more oil than normal.

I'll resist the temptation to gloat over your engine's destruction, as much as I have to fight the urge. I simply hope you mend your attitude and ways, and gain some useful insight to prevent this from happening again.

Of course I drove weeks afterwards without noticing anything because for the last time, the remaining oil was still there! Yes, actually you do, by stating you'd never take your car to Walmart, which IS sensible.

HOWEVER, how is it you don't see how utterly stupid Madmamma is to claim her car ran for months with the oil being bone dry?

OBVIOUSLY the car had adequate oil after leaving Walmart, and running without engine failure for weeks before all of a sudden, it turns up cone dry.

OBVIOUSLY the car either had a major gasket blowout somewhere, spilling all the oil out before she realized it, or has been burning oil due to an internal gasket break, which is far more likely.

If all of us are so mean, what is she? A super nice lady? SHE"S A MORON!!!!!!!!!

What a MAROON! Part 2.

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 11, 2012

What a maroon!  Yes I mean maroon!  This is a catch phase from the old Bugs Bunny Cartoons.  It was made famous by the Bugs Bunny character when it was voiced by Mel Blanc and was a comical why for Bugs Bunny to proclaim someone a MORON.  Got it yet, Einstein?   (I'm old enough to remember.)

Another Bugs Bunny catch phrase that is also meant as a humorous insult is "What a ignoranamus!"

Good luck with the law suit!  LMAO!

Here's a big hint for you.  Your car dip stick was showing that it was low on oil before the oil change.  You get an oil change and one and one half month later, the dipstick shows no oil-get your car checked as it appears to be burning a lot of oil.  THE OIL HAD TO GO SOMEWHERE AND IT IS NOT NORMAL.  I drive the same 2002 F-150 i purchased new in July 2002. It has 98000 plus miles and the dipstick shows NO LOSS of oil between oil changes (Yes, I check my oil periodically as well coolant, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid.)

Regarding the sticker that most oil change places put on your windshield-that is a reminder of when they recommend you schedule the next oil change.  This sticker in NO WAY is a guarantee that your vehicle will not need oil before the date indicated on the sticker.  Especially if your hoopty burns a lot of oil.

What a maroon!!!

OK, I stand corrected. The OP is not a nice lady.

AUTHOR: seeworthy - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 10, 2012

I have a general question for the OP: Have you ever met a person so irrational and illogical, with an attitude, that makes you want to cover your ears while saying, "Stop...stop already...you're making no sense at all!" First, can you explain the difference of a person like that and yourself? Your predictable response, however, would be, "YEAH, all of YOU!" This also explains yet another issue that you don't understand. 'You', versus 'everyone else' defines the term "maroon". In your concrete mindset, it's only a misspelling or color, but the term "maroon" is also used for a person who is stranded or stands alone. The spelling was correct and it's usage here is accurate.

The OP is rather presumptious when stating that none of the responses here are from someone that is competent with automobiles. This accusation coming from a person that operates a car (especially with an infant in her care), while ignoring the glowing check-engine light, describes a person that should not be quick to judge others. It is as blatantly hypocritical as is her reprimand to other's sarcasm.

Question #1 - Why did they charge you for an oil change? The answer is so far fetched, it is almost incomprehendable: Because they did an oil change.

Question #2 - Why did they place a sticker saying there was 4 months until the next oil change? Actually, the sticker indicates the recommended miles to the next oil change. Personally, I've never seen a 'next oil change date', just the mileage. If you put, for instance, 3000 to 4000 miles on a car in six weeks, you'd better not wait for 4 months! If the sticker stated "4 months", that is their maximum time, under NORMAL conditions, that they recommend until a fresh oil change. The conditions of this not so nice lady are not normal.

Question #3 - Why did a manager at another store state that something was obviously wrong? Perhaps he did (just another wild guess), as there was in fact something seriously wrong with the engine that had nothing to do with the last person that poured oil into it.

Though I'm not one of the "geniuses" that the OP flatters other's as being, I do have a common explanation for oil dissipation other than an obvious oil leak. Worn engines have cylinder honing that is diminished or gone. Withouth that honing to hold an oil surface, the piston rings will wipe the oil from the cylinder surface. This causes the rings to wear. The increased wear tolerance allows oil to pass by the rings and into the combustion chamber, where it is burned and passes out the tail pipe. This is an inevitable process, which is accelerated with poor maintenance, and is refered to as "blow by". Normal wear, also accelerated by poor maintenance, will cause valve guide wear. As the valve guides wear, oil is allowed to seep past the rocker side of the heads down to the valves wear it then enters the combustion chamber, is burned, and exits the tail pipe. It's not uncommon for an engine to burn a quart or more this way, with little sign of exhaust smoke.

If the OP hasn't already, would it be so bad to confirm this with her local genius tech at her favorite dealership? Of course, if that's too much of a hassle, she can just rant her genius here.

You can claim that the people who gave you very straight-forward comments don't know a thing about cars.  But I would bet on their knowledge against yours any day of the week.  Especially since that even though your husband said that the oil was "BONE DRY" and making a clicking noise you or he had no problem driving the car(with no oil) to Walmart.

If this is a case where you just don't want to admit that you are wrong..so be it.   But if you truly think that you are right then sue Walmart for any damages.  When you do please post the Court Docket information so that we can all follow it.

You've confirmed it

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 10, 2012

OK, now you've confirmed that you really are an idiot.

First, an engine WILL NOT run at all if it is 'bone dry' (your words). It would freeze up immediately if not sooner and would make a lot more that a clicking sound.

If your oil was even near 'bone dry' your oil light and/or check engine light would be lit. You didn't say it was on, that's the point, either this whole scenario is a fabrication or you just didn't see it or you ignored it.  Anyway, if your oil was so seriously low all this time, the light would have been on.  You are not being truthful.

Who know what could happen in a month and a half. Depending on how much you drive it could be burning lots of oil.  You did say it burns oil right here in your rebuttal. There obviously was "some" oil in there, just enough to get me by until it burned off. That does not happen in a car that is not 'burning' oil.  Or you could just be lying about leaks.  Or you could have drained it so you could try to get some money from Walmart, who knows? The point is that after a month and a half, it's way too late to blame WalMart or anyone else.

You sound a little panicky in your rebuttal that anyone would challenge you.  The rebuttals were logical and well reasoned.  Yours, on the other hand was childish, immature, not well reasoned and completely illogical.

This report is greatly exaggerated at the least.

Good luck on the lawsuit

AUTHOR: TWSM - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 10, 2012

You can rant and rave at the posters here all you want, it does not disguise the fact that your story does not ring true.

'Bone dry' - as in not a drop of oil in the crankcase for a month and a half?  Unless your car stayed parked in the driveway for a month and a half this is impossible.  And after your husband finds it 'bone dry' he leaves it that way for a trip to Walmart?  A car engine does not survive being out of oil for 6 minutes let alone 6 weeks.  Driving it to Walmart, even if it was next door would probably seize the engine.  And frankly it would be an incredibly stupid thing to do.

There are a ton of questions you are leaving unanswered.  How many miles are on the car?  How many miles do you drive in a week?  Make/model of the car?

The fact that there was only half the oil in the car when it was changed speaks volumes as well.  Unless you are very lax in getting oil changes that kind of usage points to either a leak or an engine burning oil.  You claim to have no leaks.  Ok.  Do you notice any signs of burning oil - like a lot of smoke in the exhaust?  6 weeks to burn thru a crankcase of oil is a lot of burning -- do you put a lot of mileage on the car?  Some leaks only get going when the car is really running, but to have no residual signs of leakage is rare.

I once had a Ford Dealership not put in any oil after an oil change so I understand where you are coming from.  But the car engine was overheating/smoking 1/4 mile up the road so back it went.  Unless you have a miracle car you cant run 6 weeks of normal use with no oil.  So you are looking at the engine burning it up, or a sudden/catastrophic leakout.

Good luck in your case.  Esp if your car is old/high mileage.  I don't think you will win it.

I guess he doesn't know what he's talking about either huh? #4 You ALL assumed my check engine light had been on for days, even months....I would really like to know where in my complaint you see where I wrote that....you're right, I didn't...lets learn to read before calling me an idiot or I'm sorry FLYNRIDER a "MAROON" which by the way is a S A Y IT W I T H ME "COLOR". I believe the term you were referring to was Moron, which by the way, you all are if you honestly believe this oil just vanished in a month an a half without there being a leak. #5 my check engine light came on THE DAY I took it to the other wal mart after it almost died on the way home! And yes, it was making a very loud clicking noise. When we took it in to the other wal mart, the supervisor even told us we needed to get oil right then because we wouldn't make it home....again, I guess he is just a "MAROON" too. And where in the hell do ANY of you get off making me look like an idiot?? You know NOTHING about me or cars! Oh and as for you "SEEWORTHY" you refer to me as a "nice lady" numerous times. Nice touch trying to be a smart a*s, but really, it's lame. And SEEWORTHY, why would my check engine light be on when I left the oil change?? There obviously was "some" oil in there, just enough to get me by until it burned off. And no, I did not check my dip stick afterwards #1 because I would assume people were actually trust worthy (HA!) and #2 when you having a screaming infant who is tired and ready to go home, that comes first. Oh and it was BONE DRY, as confirmed by the mechanic/supervisor at the other wal-mart and not to mention, my husband. So as far as your "combustion" theory, that may have actually occurred had we not of stopped immediately to obtain a couple quarts of oil. Oh and SEEWORTHY, if you think Walmart is such a horrible place to get your oil changed, why are you so quick to defend them? NONE of you have any idea what happened, so you need to take your sarcasm and idiocrasy elsewhere because you are making yourself look like fools. If I had to guess, at least one, if not all 3 of you are Wal mart employees. RAMJET, I didn't forget about you!!!! If you know so d**n much about cars, then please enlighten me by telling everyone WHAT EXACTLY CAN HAPPEN IN A MONTHS TIME THAT WOULD CAUSE OIL TO JUST SIMPLY DISAPPEAR?? And you dent believe this is the whole truth because it sounds so far fetched that a company as big as wal mart would scam their customers. Now, I am done wasting my time with you useless people. Please become educated before responding to this post anymore. Thanks, and have a great day.

Sincerely,
"NICE LADY"

" You already had about half amount of oil in there "

I suspect what he was trying to tell you was that when he drained the old oil, there was only half them amount there should have been.    He was warning you that you should be on the lookout for excessive oil consumption.  Fat lot of good that did.   After your oil change, you just drove around burning or leaking oil until the crankcase was dry.   Ever think of checking the dipstick?  I bet not.

It seems abuntantly clear what happened to your engine.   A great deal of neglect on your part.   Good luck getting anything from Walmart.   I have no doubt that your lawyer will be the one who gets the most out of this nonsensical claim.

A lot can happen in a month and a half of driving. This OP stated some recall of the service person mentioning "...half the amount of oil in there." The most logical reference to that statement is that the OP's vehicle had burned and/or leaked half of the oil since the previous oil change. Now, a month and a half later, that would happen again due to the same car problems. Also, half the oil in the crankcase would not even show on the dipstick. Does that mean it is bone dry?? Of course not, and this OP fails to mention how she drove for weeks will her check engine light glowing in the dash after the first quart disappeared. By this OP's claim, that check engine light should have been glowing immediately after the oil service was done but, oh, guess not. Right OP?

This OP specifically states in this complaint that she was driving her car "bone dry" of oil. Folks, that's metal-on-metal during internal combustion. The engine would seize within seconds, but this nice lady was driving her car with only a little clicking noise. If that was a low oil indication, it would likely have only been the rockers clicking on the top end due to low oil pressure.

It appears this OP has typical engine wear that is inevitable with any vehicle, and now wants to blame a problem on the last party to have serviced the car. If that last party had been her husband, who had filled it will proper grade motor oil, correct filter, and tightened the pan nut and filter properly, the identical results would have happened. And these results include this nice lady being able to drive her car all over town bone dry of oil...

Would I ever have my oil changed at Walmart? I did once. As I do where ever I have it done, I check the oil and filter immediately after paying. Years back, Walmart overfilled my crankase a full quart. This could damage an engine if driven for extended period. The service person said he read the charts for my Chrysler 300, and it says six (it says five). Hate to say it, but the guy was incompetent in his job. After waiting another half hour for the quart to be removed, they sent me on a wild goose chase just to get refunded for the sixth quart I had paid for. What a riduculous waste of time, but it could have been worse.

Any reputable automobile service center (not necessarily including Wally World in this list), is prone to false accusations that their service damaged a car. It is inevitable. Walmart, like any service location, has disclaimers in the service contract for a reason. If this wasn't the case, anyone wanting a new drivetrain could simply raise a bogus claim, real or perceived, just like the OP has done here. In RARE cases, the customer may have a legitimate case, but has the burden of proof.

This OP made two mistakes: First, using Walmart to change her oil. Live and learn. Second (and even more critical), allowing her limited logic to deduce inaccurate conclusions.

Listen, your oil was not 'bone dry' or you would not have been driving it around to different stores and wherever else.  An engine will not run 'bone dry' I promise.

Besides that, this was a month and a half after the oil change? A lot can happen in that length of time that has nothing to do with Walmart.

In addition, how long was the warning light on the dash board lit.  If you oil is 'bone dry' there would have been a light on for a long time and would hear a lot more than a clicking noise.

This report does not have the ring of truth, I don't believe this is the whole story.
