I was recently alerted to a deal on Walmart's web site for an upcoming video game called Unreal 2. The web site had stated that the price was $17.97 and that the game would ship in January. I purchased this game with a Visa and received an email confirmation of my purchase that same day.

Many of my friends also purchased this same game due to the very low price. The next day, Walmart had the game listed for $49.97. I suppose the original price of $17.97 was a mistake. Regardless, my order had been placed and the confirmation was received. A week later, I received another email from Walmart. This time it was from the video games department.

The email stated that there was a problem with my order and it had been cancelled. They used this same line of B.S. in an email to every one of my friends who ordered the game as well, just so they wouldn't have to honor the original price on the web site. This seem illegal to me. Is there anything I can do? I have a printed copy of the email confirmation. Can I take this to Walmart when the game is released and demand they give it to me for that price?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

large companies don't care about customer satisfaction

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 07, 2003

Now that Unreal 2 has actually been released, I decided to take my email confirmation of purchase to the store to see if they would honor the advertised price. I had no luck. The manager told me I need to take the issue up with Walmart customer service at 1-800-walmart. The person on the phone told me that they could not honor the price because it was incorrectly posted and that my credit card has not been charged...end of story. He also added that I could order the game online today for the correct price of $49.95. Obviously, I declined. If I do purchase the game, it will NOT be from Walmart, nor will I order any other software from them.

Whatever happened to the days of stores honoring the prices they mark on merchandise, even if it is incorrect? I guess large companies don't care about customer satisfaction.

Letter to the President

Steve,

Go back to the web page and write a letter to the president. Be sure to cut and paste your original order confirmation--if you have a mirror image of the discounted price send that as well. Ask for someone from the Home Office to call you with an answer and they will.

Good Luck,
TFC
