I now believe "extended" vehicle warranties are worthless.  I bought from "the best."  They claimed to give the service provider a charge card number for easy payment and yadda, yadda, yadda.

This company was called "Warranty Activation HQ, Inc." (serviced by Mepco).  They now answer the phone as "Nationwide Automotive Protection" or "Administrative Office."  Since 2008, I went through 3 "agents."  The "agents" are no longer assigned extension numbers, so you get whomever you get.

I became aware of these changes because of ongoing discrepancies in my coverage.  I had one vehicle with "comprehensive" coverage, which was described as "even covers electric door locks."  When the needle fell off my "P-R-N-D-L" indicator, I discovered that was not covered because it was part of the "instrument cluster."  As it turns out, that is only covered under the "ELITE policy."  I did not know that when I was being sold the "Comprehensive policy." (Mia Culpa)

Later, I needed a brake job requiring new calipers.  The company doing the brakes informed me that the warranty company covered nothing.  After the work was completed, I drove home and checked the policy.  I saw that the calipers were supposed to be covered.  Upon calling the company, I discovered I could not collect for the repair because the claim "needed to be filed before the work was done."

Now, for what really provoked this letter.  I have a second vehicle with only "drive train coverage."  The transmission transfer case seal broke during an 8-hour trip to our new home.  The service advisor said I also needed some "converter" and "pump" assemblies.  The service provider then jumped through all the necessary "hoops" for filing (including going through three fax numbers before getting one that worked).  Only to find out the warranty company would not pay.  The story here being that the coverage did not include "seals."  Therefore, the other parts were not covered because it was caused by a leaky seal.  I would also like to note that this whole procedure took from April 19 to June 17.

For the record, I would also like to mention that these policies were "backed by" Lyndon Property Insurance Company and Republic Insurance Company (depending on where you live).  The "administrator" was listed as Royal Administration Services, Inc.

Along with my own painful experiences here, the service advisor at the dealership informed me that I should not feel alone.  He has not gotten any warranty claims covered by any companies except for the occasional extended warranty offered by the dealer.  Hence, my warning to all of you who are contemplating the purchase of an extended vehicle warranty --- Save your money!  You'll need it when your car breaks down.  I sure could have used my investment in "warranty" coverage to pay this $1600 repair and would have even had money left over.
