I'm writing in support of all the others who have had problems with WaMu. I thought I was the only one who had problems with them holding deposits for random amounts of time for seemingly no reason. I also thought I was the only one who was being charged non-sufficient fund fees repeatedly, even when my available balance was sufficient to cover the payments. Imagine my surprise to find this site!
Anyway, today was the last straw for me. In addition to the above, I went to withdraw cash today in order to purchase a money order. I used a Wells Fargo ATM. I got a message saying that the transaction could not be completed. I drove to a Washington Mutual and tried to withdraw money from both of the ATMs and each time got a message saying the machine was having technical difficulties and could not process the request. I then spent 30 minutes (really, 30 minutes) on the phone trying to reach a real person via their automated system without any luck. Absolutely frustrated, I went home and googled "how to reach a real person WaMu" and found a secret number combination that when entered into the automatic system, transfers you to a human.
The person I spoke to could not figure out why I couldn't withdraw money and suggested that it was a problem with the ATMs. I reminded her that I had tried three different machines, one of which was not Washington Mutual's. She talked with a supervisor. All he could advise me to do was try another ATM or wait until tomorrow.
I'm done with them. I've been with them for a good 10 years and have been happy with them up until the past few years. Every time I turn around, I'm being slapped with a NSF fee even though I checked my available balance before making a transaction. And every time my account is low and I deposit a check, they place a hold on it for varying amounts of time. This doesn't seem to happen if my balance is high.
I no longer trust them and I suggest that everyone who has been having bad experiences with them follow my lead and close their accounts and switch to another bank.
