I have a home mortgage loan with Washington Mutual and my account is in good standing, meaning I have never missed a payment nor been late with a payment.

Washington Mutual failed to send me information necessary in order to complete my tax return for 2008, namely the amount of interest paid on my mortgage loan in 2008.

In order to obtain this information, I called WaMu and this began a long saga of attempting to find the information. Washington Mutual plays a game where you can waste an enormous amount of time and never find the information you are looking for.

First, their answering computer directs me to their web site, www.wamu.com. When I visit that web site, I find mostly information about their banking and credit-card services. After hours of digging on their web site, I discover that they may also provide information on mortgage loans. After many trials and errors, I finally succeed in registering to use their system. When I attempt to get my interest information, I receive an ERROR MESSAGE, giving no reason as to why I cannot get the information, but directing me to call their telephone number.

Thus, when you call the telephone number, they direct you to the web site. When you log on to the web site and register, they direct you to the telephone. It is a complete loop.

I spent several hours of playing around with their phone system, involving twelve phone calls if not more to various WaMu numbers. Some numbers use different menu systems and have different options. I am not sure how I managed, but eventually, I was finally was able to log in and get to, supposedly, "my" account. For the first time, WaMu offered me the opportunity of getting the interest payment information for 2008. Eagerly, I pressed "3" to get that information, only to find that no information was given. Instead, I was bumped back to the main menu. This is either a bug in the system or an intentional feature designed to waste my time.

It is not possible to get the information necessary to complete my 2008 tax return.

Washington Mutual has wasted at least three hours of my time, and I wonder how much time of their other customers throughout the country and the world.
Washington Mutual is wasting the time of their customers through gross incompetence, if not intentional criminal wrongdoing.

It annoys me to recollect the number of times in the past that Washington Mutual has telephoned my house at dinner time to talk to me about opening a credit card account with them, despite the fact I never expressed any interest in doing so. My mailbox has been deluged with offers from Washington Mutual to open additional accounts with them, and I am only happy to reflect I never responded to any of them. I never selected Washington Mutual in the first place: my mortgage was sold to them by my local bank, in what I regard as an act of betrayal. If it had been up to me, I never would have selected Washington Mutual.

I would be very interested in joining a class-action lawsuit against Washington Mutual and would be willing to testify upon oath in a court of law to the facts attested in this message.

Good luck with Washington Mutual and your home loan

AUTHOR: Lacinda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

We had Washington Mutual for our loan on our condo. We paid it off in December 2006. We were selling the place in 2008 and it turns out that Washington Mutual never did the paperwork to show that we didn't have a mortgage any more. So when closing time came, we had to prove we didn't owe anything. It was a hassle and closing almost didn't happen because of them. I wish you lots of luck that you don't have any other problems with them like we did. (We paid extra every month and they could never get the payment applied correctly. We made it very clear that we wanted it to go to principal but they couldn't/wouldn't understand that).
