On December 12, 2007 I purchased a clamshell spring compressor used to repair McPherson struts from wegotparts on eBay, item number 250195800718. The item was advertised as a quality tool (list price valued at over 200.00) and not a cheap knock off.

UPS delivered this tool in just a few days as promised in our ebay contract. While looking at the box, I noticed the place where the part number should be; the box was cut and some of the cardboard removed to hide the fact this tool is nationally advertised for $29.99 by Harbor Freight Tools.

The barcode was also marked out with a black marker along with another place on the box where the corporate address and some other numbers were located. I read Camarillo California on the box; this told me that it is a Harbor Freight Tool. I have been a customer of Harbor Freight for twenty years, and I still get solicited by their magazines.

It is disappointing to purchase a China import tool by deceptive advertising. I have a welder also from Harbor Freight and the seller failed to disclose it was a store return, the welder was broken when it arrived. Tools from Harbor Freight are poor quality and made with inferior materials. If you look at other retail tool dealers you will find much of the same cheaply made imported merchandise from China.

I have a degree in mechanical repair and can not rely on a tool made overseas. This particular tool may jeopardize my personal safety if it fails. It is common for accidents when dealing with springs, and I am leery of using a tool from a supplier with a reputation of breaking like most of the stuff I have purchased from Harbor Freight (refer to report #181011).

I posted positive feedback for this item knowing I am not satisfied with the quality of this tool. The comment stated Harbor Freight Tools, seller removed item number to disguise source. Apparently this offended wegotparts and their reply was posting neutral feedback suggesting I demanded to know who their supplier was ? Like I do not already know?

eBay user wegotparts has damaged my buyer/seller reputation on eBay by posting derogatory comments in response to speaking of fact regarding my experience with their auctions. I do not care if wegotparts purchased a pallet of damaged goods and sells them or just buys from a retail store. My issue is that these inferior tools are misrepresented as quality tools [fraud and/or mistake of fact] from a shade-tree mechanic who reports that he has been working on cars for over thirty years. Arrogance comes to mind as I read these disheartening comments posted in my feedback out of spite.

I paid 49.90 plus 18.13 freight-in for some shiny red tool that I can never rely on. The cross shaft is made of aluminum; this is an essential load bearing piece. The instructions do not clarify how the pieces are used and assembled. This guy needs to clarify in his auctions that he is selling imported products and lose the deceptive puffery. This person [unnamed for privacy] needs to learn the policies of the Universal Commercial Code (UCC) to avoid future problems with selling goods online and their product liability. *Nationally advertised at Harbor Freight, item number 43753-1VGA 29.99 plus 7.99 S&H.
