Not only does Wells Fargo expect a prospective employer to jump through a number of hoops once he or she registers! with theworknumber.com (Wells Fargo's employment verification service), Wells Fargo also expects the former Wells Fargo employee to do the following:

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: To provide someone with proof of your employment and income, you need to complete three steps, review each below and then click create button.
1. Create a "Salary Key." (This is the next step after clicking the create button below.) The Salary Key is a six-digit number that you get on this web site.

Giving a Salary Key to someone gives them permission to get proof of your employment and income one time.
2. Give the person needing proof of your employment and income your Social Security Number, your employer's name, and a Salary Key.

3. Tell that person to go to the verifier area at www.theworknumber.com for instructions.

To provide someone with proof of your employment and income:
Give them a Salary Key (shown below)
Your Social Security Number
Your employer's name
Ask them to go to the verifier section of www.theworknumber.com
Salary Key Date & Time Created Expiration Date
Status Options Instructions

* All times are Central Standard Time

In addition, theworknumber.com charges the prospective employer $10 to $13 for this information, depending on whether they choose to become a member or not.

I've been looking for work for six weeks, and have found nothing. Wells Fargo's way of handling employee verifications serves only two purposes: 1) ensuring the former employee will remain unemployed for an extended period of time, and 2) make money for theworknumber.com (Of which we all know Wells Fargo will receive a percentage. They don't do ANYTHING for free.)

Stay away from Wells Fargo Bank. They're corrupt to do business with. They're very evil to work for.

#1 UPDATE Employee

Every Company Uses The Work Number

AUTHOR: Laurenb638 - (U.S.A.)

I've been in the mortgage business for eight years. Do you know how many hundreds of thousands of companies use The Work Number for employment verification? Wells Fargo makes no money off that system. In fact, they PAY to use the system because it is cheaper to do that than to have an entire department of Human Resources Reps available to do employment verification over the phone for the thousands of current and previous employees.

You DO NOT need a salary key in order for someone to verify PREVIOUS employment. The salary key is only for the purpose of providing someone with proof of income if you are applying for a loan. You can always pay the $10 for the employment verification, print it out and give it to prospective employers as proof of previous employment. Or, if the company wants you bad enough, they'll pay the money. If it's a decent company they probably use The Work Number or a similar service for employment verification themselves.

In this day and age, companies do not have time to spend on the phone answering questions about every current and past employee, it would just be a waste of a desk space when there are companies out there willing to do it for them for a low cost.

Don't take anger out about not getting a position that you wanted on Wells Fargo because if a company really wanted you, the $10 verification wouldn't be what stopped them from hiring you.
