Do not buy from Westgate Resorts!! We stayed at Westgate in 2005 for vacation. It was fine until you have to go for the mandatory 90 minute meeting that turns into 5-6 hour meeting!! We finally purchased a "value week" from them to get the hell out of there. I literally felt raped when I left from Westgate Resorts.
We did not end up visiting the resort again until 2010 with our children. We were taken to see the upgrades going on at the resort. After showing us the upgrades they take you back to the main building where we were informed that our "value week" that we purchased was no longer valid anymore and they were no longer selling them so we would need to upgrade.
When we told them that we did not want an upgrade we were informed that we could pay up to $800 on top of our monthly charge if we were going to stay at the resort for our "value week". After another 5-6 hour meeting we finally agree that we would upgrade so we can be let go from this meeting since we were feeling like a hostage again.
When we went to sign the papers they asked us "Did anyone pressure you into signing these papers? Do you feel you were forced into this agreement?" which we answered "yes". So they go and bring back the same lady that talked us into the upgrade in the first place!
Now we are paying more money and maitenance and taxes every single year. If you don't pay your maintenance or taxes within the 30 days they are throwing you into collections for the money and now you have to pay the fees for the collection company on top of the taxes and maintenance.
I left Westgate Resorts again feeling raped worst than the first time. We were forced into an upgrade for more money and we have had nothing but aggravation and probelms ever since!! If you are smart you will not buy from this company.

Corporate attitude is there's a sucker born every minute!

I was a sales rep in the industry. I can tell you that fraud is rampant in this industry. There are only a small percentage of companies who hold true to some kind of ethos. I can tell you that the whole presentation is geared towards high pressure sales tactics in order to make the sale. The reps, T/o's etc.... are pressured to make the sale as well. Pick a company whos focus is to consult and help your situation rather than make a sale. The product they are pushing should genuinely help and answer your situation positively. After I was ripped off by the developer I was working for, I started helping people terminate their timeshares. Sometimes they just need a re structuring of their current program to make it more useful for them to consume their product effeciently. Sometimes, They really cannot afford the yearly fee's involved and need a legal way out. In either case it should help your situation. Email (((REDACTED)))

You were present for an owners update. Beyond a token gift (such as a basket of fruit), Westgate Resorts promised you nothing. You were not required to remain seated at the presentation. After upi declined the upgrade offer, you could have thanked them for their informative presentation and announced that you are leaving. At most, you would have forfeited their token gift. Westgate probably offered a discount on resort purchases (including food & drink). At the end of you stay, you could have informed the check-out agent that you attended the presentation, and the discount would have been applied.
I don't think you were assertive enough during the presentation.
