In response to your email. I went online hoping to find a description of the Peter Millar Shearling Jacket. The ad from Darien Sport Shop actually uses a model that is identical to the used on your Westport Website to advertise the Peter Millar Shearling Jacket only this jackets description is different. This is the current add from the Westport Website: https://www.westportbigandtall.com/SKU/36553/Peter-Millar-Shearling-Jacket.aspx?ParentPageID=39&CategoryID=19 and heres the Darien Sport Shop add. The model and the jacket are identical. Peter Millar Men's Telluride Shearling Jacket image Peter Millar Men's Telluride Shearling Jacket This Peter Millar Men's Telluride Shearling Jacket is crafted in a unique buffed sheepskin leather. This handsomely rugged jacket gets better and better with each w... View on www.dariensport.com It appears that the jacket was advertised as being made of 100% sheepskin leather with a a removable shearling collar and was carried by Peter Millar and could be ordered on their website and carried by several stores such as Nordstroms and the Darien Sport Shop, and in every description that I could find, it was called a Peter Millar Telluride Shearling jacket and was said to be made of 100% sheepskin leather and retailed for approximately $1295 dollars. I spoke to a customer service rep at Peter Millar named Victoria who told me that that Westport carried the same jacket in big and tall sizes to sell to their clients. It was advertised as a Peter Millar shearling jacket and retailed for $1950, more than 55% increase from the original price. Westport is selling the same jacket and is using the same picture used by the Darien Sport Shop with the same model to sell the jacket. I am 6'7" and like many men my height am often at the mercy of big and tall stores to find clothes. Which often means that I have to pay more for the same garment that is sold for less in smaller sizes. Even in those big and tall stores like Westport its rare that I find a stylish coat or jacket in my size and usually have to pay more for the size difference, even when its sold at a discount. At the very least I should be able to expect that the item be made of the same material that it is named after. Especially when I am dealing with, what I think is, a reputable dealer. From what I was told from Victoria at Peter Millar, there was an error in their advertising description which said the jacket was made of 100% sheepskin but that Westport knew that the jacket was made of "cows leather , so how could Westport 's customer service department not know? I bought the jacket because I believed that I was buying a Peter Millar Shearling jacket made entirely of sheepskin/ shearling and that belief was further confirmed by the Westport Big and Tall Customer Service Department, when I called on February 10, 2016 and spoke to a representative named Mia to ask what the jacket was made of and was told by her that it was a sheepskin shearling jacket, more specifically that the outer shell was sheepskin. I pointed out that there was a very small label inside the jacket that said the outer shell was made of cows leather, she put me on hold, she said to speak to her manager, returned and told me that the cows leather was referring to the trim found on the inside lining of the jacket, that the outer shell was sheepskin, which she said was confirmed by her manager. I asked her if there was anything from the manufacturer to authenticate what she was telling me the jacket was made of , she said there wasn't. She told that she would be sending me an email with the corporate number that maybe they could help, I never received that email. I did a little more research and it was only after I called the Peter Millar Company and spoke to a customer service representative named Victoria that I found out the outer shell was actually cows leather and only the removable collar was shearling. Although Westport has agreed to refund me, I am very disappointed that I didn't get a genuine shearling jacket but instead an imitation as I was looking to buy a shearling jacket this year. Theres also a question of what is an ethical business practice. The idea that someone paid more than I did maybe close to $2000 for the same jacket believing it to be a sheepskin/shearling jacket is appalling. How many customers like myself spoke to Westport's customer service department like I did, and were told that the jacket was authentic shearling made of sheepskin and that only the leather trim was cows leather? How many of your customers think they own and are wearing a real sheepskin shearling jacket and don't know that it is not? It bothers me to the point that I will be filing a complaint with the Department of Consumer Protection, Better Business Bureau, and I will use every social media network at my disposal to tell as many people as possible of my experience with Westport Big and Tall and the Peter Millar shearling jacket that they sold me. I asked about, ordered, paid for and expected to get a genuine sheepskin/shearling jacket . I was willing to accept a different authentic shearling 100% sheepskin that was advertised in the same catalogue, in my size and asked that the same discount be applied. I think in light of the circumstances that it was a very reasonable request. You will also notice that by comparison, both jackets sold by Westport big and tall and are both called shearlings which by definition is sheepskin, however the Peter Millar is a "cows leather " jacket. and this La Marque is said to be made of 100% sheepskin and originally was retailing for less than the Peter Millar. Doesn't that seem deceiving? https://www.westportbigandtall.com/SKU/36682/La-Marque-Shearling-Leather-Coat.aspx?ParentPageID=39&CategoryID=19 I want to use this email as a complaint and a review of my experience with Westport Big and Tall and Peter Millar. My hope is to reach as many people as possible especially any other buyer who bought this same jacket and was deceived by your shady and deceptive marketing tactics, into thinking that the Peter Millar Shearling jacket was an an authentic sheepskin/shearling jacket and may not know that what they bought is just a regular leather coat with a small shearling collar.
